Chapter 31: Done Waiting

Demetre All that Elinn had been doing for the past week had been sitting in this bed. She had only spoken to about ten people and only half of those people weren't hospital staff. If you add to that the fact that three out of the five were children and two of them she'd yelled at things weren't looking too great. The other two were her uncle and cousin who I guess Aurellio assumed were dead and hadn't used them in his mind games. Both Ari and I were hurting from the loss of contact with our mate. Ari wasn't able to heal properly and I could feel that my power was diminishing without my mate's presence. Elinn wasn't listening to anything either of us was trying to say to her either and it was rather infuriating. I couldn't understand why she was so insistent on believing the lies that the monster fed to her, why she insisted that no one could ever treat her kindly. "It's because she has spent so much time trapped and being told that she would never be enough why wouldn't she believe it. When all you've ever known is a world where anyone you ever trusted has betrayed you then would it really shock you when you were told that your mate betrayed you? Elinn wouldn't even question it, she would just believe what the one person she believed took care of her would mislead her? It all makes sense and we can't be to upset because it isn't her fault entirely." Ari scolded me and I did my best not to glare at her. "Yes, while that is a logical explanation it doesn't excuse all of her actions. She can choose to not listen to them and to do what she wants instead. When those closest to her are giving her the truth she won't even consider what they are saying. The least she could do is listen to them and think through what she is hearing. If she just stopped moping around and hiding for five goddamn minuted this problem would have been solved by now!" I yelled causing Ari to shrink back. "I am tired of watching her suffer, watching all of us suffer because Elinn is too fragile to think this all through right now. It isn't fair to you or me or even Elinn! Until she can figure out for herself that her mind is in fact addled I feel it necessary that we take over control!" Before Ari could protest I pushed my way forward taking control of our body. Elinn seemed surprised and desperately attempted to pull the reins back into her own hands but she wasn't nearly as strong as I was right now. With a few quick jerks, the various tubes and needles embedded in out skin were hanging loosely from their respective machines. I understood that they were supposed to be helping our body heal but with me or Ari in control, we would heal significantly faster naturally. Shuffling awkwardly off the bed I headed towards the door and away from this temporary cell that I had been trapped in for days. After ten long years, I wasn't content with sitting in the background any longer and needed to let myself move. As I pulled the door open I was almost run over by two very frantic looking nurses. The looked at each other confused before trying to herd me back into the room. "Come on now Elinn, you know that you need to stay in bed so that you can heal properly." The young one chided good-naturedly. I knew that she was just looking out for my humans well being and didn't take offense from her mistake. "I am not Elinn, though I do share a connection to her. Elinn will be….taking a vacation for a little while her wolf and I try to get things all sorted out. Now if you ladies wouldn't mind I have someone that I must go and see." My words obviously shock the women who didn't seem to fully comprehend what was going on. I quietly made my way past them and out into the hall, just the fact that we were finally out of that room made me feel free at last. Now all I had to do was locate my mate and we could get down to the process of healing this battered body. One of the unfortunate things about my control was that Elinn had to deal with the repercussions of my rampage at the mansion. While I might be a kind of god she, on the other hand, was not, just a mere human and my injuries affected her far worse when I wasn't around. I remembered her being told about the various broken bones, bruises, cuts, and scrapes I had managed to gift to her and her pain had been intense. Some of the cuts were healed but none of the bones or bruises were gone yet, though the bruises were getting lighter. I knew the bones would take a few weeks but it wouldn't be that long if Ari and I were helping. Turning a corner I realized for the first time that I was tracking someone's scent. My mate smelled amazing and I could hardly get over the fact we were going to be able to see him again. I may have a heart of steal but I knew deep down that we needed him and that he cared for us. It was to bad that Elinn hadn't been able to figure that out just yet. The hospital connected to the pack house after a few twisting hallways and using Elinn's memories I found my way around fairly easily. Eventually, I found myself outside the door to Nathan's apartment, it was loud and sounded as if two people were yelling at each other. I had always liked Nathan, he was a solid great guy who's mate was very attractive and nice. I remembered that he was Carter's brother but I couldn't think of much other than that. Elinn was doing her best to keep things to herself hoping I would give her back the body, but I was having far to much fun at this moment. Without a second thought, I opened the door and strutted in only to find Carter and Nathan yelling at each other. "SHE NEEDS ME NATHAN! LET ME GO SO THAT I CAN SEE HER!" "What she needs is time Carter and you have only given her a week. Back off let her regroup and then you can go running in and save your damsel in distress." Nathan tried reasoning with the extremely pissed off alpha. "Don't know if I need much saving, I feel like I've done a pretty good job of that all by myself. I mean I did take down an entire mansion filled with rabid rogues all by myself but you can sure try and save me if you wish. Then again you might get in the way of my bloodletting so I'd rather you not try that option." All movement in the room stopped and Carter slowly turned to face me. "You give me my mate back right now or I'll kill you." HIs voice was low and threatening but I merely laughed at him. "Try it little Alpha. I…Dare…You." He charged and I twisted sharply to the side avoiding his rampage. "You know this is why I took over, you are a wreck without us and she can't even handle the sight of you right now. Ari and I….well we are a different story altogether, we need our mate close to us to stay strong and her actions are making that nearly impossible." His nails elongated into claws as he slashed at me and I easily dodged his attacks. Nathan had pulled Jennifer who I hadn't even noticed was in the room swiftly behind him. "Would you look at that the poor little alpha wants his mate back. He seems to forget that her wolf and I are also chosen to be with him. It hurts us to hear you only talk about her and we are sick of it pup." He attempted to punch me in the nose and I grabbed his hand pinning it behind his back and pulling him into my chest. He thrashed in my arms trying to escape my hold but it was no use. "Now, I think it's time we gained some control over the situation and since nothing you've done has worked I believe it is my turn." With that, I sunk my teeth into the right side of his neck. Nathan and Jennifer lurched towards me but I gave them a warning look that froze them in place. As I felt the process finish I retracted my fangs and licked at the sensitive skin. Carter was breathless and everyone in the room could feel the arousal coming off of him. "You look amazing with our mark on you….little alpha."
