Chapter 32: Thank You
Demetre Everyone in the room had frozen, I could barely hear anything besides the sound of Carter's heavy breathing. "What were you thinking Demetre? You have to be messing with me right? You did not just mark our mate without his permission and when Elinn is not in a state to accept this well. What have you done to us? What will he think of us now! He is going to hate us and reject us!" Ari was running around frantically scrambling for a way to fix this. "Ari, he can't reject us if we mark him, that is the way it works remember. I have done this for a purpose, it connects us more to our mate. We can sense his intention, read his thoughts, and we can sense his emotions think about what this will do for Elinn. She won't have to constantly question his motivation or actions, there will be no hiding what he wants. This was the best option I saw to get things back in working order. Plus we can see his memories now, so she can see how everything really happened." I argued with her carefully observing the room's occupants and how they were behaving. Nathan and Jennifer finally started moving and looked at me with shocked expressions. Carter still hadn't moved even though I had let go of the arm I had been using to keep him in place. I had expected him to lash out as soon as I released him but he didn't move a muscle. Jennifer turned to get a better look at me and I didn't blame her I was different from the Elinn that she knew. The Elinn she knew barely looked her in the eyes and would never dream of touching Carter, let along marking him as her own. Also the fact that my presence made Elinn slightly taller, gave her golden eyes, and while my wings were tucked behind me I knew they were still slightly visible. Jen had never met me before and it would be rude of me not to introduce myself. I reached out a hand to her and before I could do anything Nathan pulled her behind him protectively. "Nate, I am not going to harm your little mate. She has never done anything to hurt us and in return, we won't hurt her. She did everything she could to take care of Elinn even when she didn't want her help. Now move aside so that I can talk to her seeing as my mate has gone temporarily mute." I admonished him and he eyed me cautiously. "Honey, I think it would be okay if you stepped aside. I would really like to meet…." Her voice trickled off as she realized she didn't know my name. "Demetre, my name is Demetre and I help Ari to watch over and protect Elinn. At this particular juncture, I feel it would be best to take control and relieve Elinn of the dress that she and others are placing on top of her. It is crushing Ari and myself to see her like that as well as the absence of our mate." I explained to her once again extending my hand and this time she took it and I smiled over at her. I looked over at Carter and found that Nathan had pulled him to one of the chairs in the room and had helped him sit down. His face was blank as if he wasn't sure what was going on or what had happened to him. It made me nervous to not know how he felt about baring our mark on his skin and Ari was definitely freaking out. At this point Elinn's thoughts had gone blank she was resting something our poor human desperately needed. "It is nice to meet you, Demetre, what exactly are you to Elinn? You aren't like anything I have ever seen before?" She wasn't being rude she was simply curious about what I did for her friend. "Mommy who is here? Why is Carter sitting there like that?" A little voice called out and I turned to figure out exactly who it was talking. Standing there was a little girl who seemed to be about four years old looking up at us questioningly. Then she seemed to notice me and looked scared, I pushed back the things that made me different than Elinn and forced myself back into the human body. She seemed to calm down more when I reverted back into a normal person. "What's your name?" She asked quizzically. "My name Demetre little one, but you can call me Demi if you would like. Now, what would your name be." A smile lite up the girls face as she extended a hand to me. "My name is Vanda, are you Uncle Carter's mate? Daddy told me that Carter had a mate and that she was not well but you don't look sick. Does that mean that Uncle Carter can play with me now?" I laughed a little at how utterly adorable this child was. "Imagine how cute our children will be! They will definitely be just as beautiful and cute as this little girl." I internally rolled my eyes at Ari, horny little wolf. "Well, I'm getting better but I am only part of your uncle's mate. You see I am like her wolf but she is so hurt and tired right now that I am in charge so she can heal. But I think that Carter may not be feeling very good right now so maybe you should go sit over there for a little while." I suggested as I noticed Carter finally starting to come out of his daze and the well of emotions that were brewing inside of him. One of the perks of marking your mate was that you could sense their emotions. It was supposed to help the mating process along for those who were a little bit more shy about those kinds of things. Though it was far more intense for Elinn considering how far along there bond really was. Neither she or Carter had noticed exactly how connected they were but the Moon had her ways. She kept track of the mates she knew would have a hard time and helped the bond develope. She would use moments that build trust and let down walls to increase the strength of the bond. Moments like Elinn letting Carter touch her, talking to him openly, letting him comfort her all of those moments were ones that had to build up the connection between Carter and Elinn. Because of all of those moments, it made it easier for us to be able to sense Carter, his emotions, thoughts, and those types of things. Right now Carter's emotions were running rampant and I couldn't pinpoint any of them. I made my way over to where he was sitting wondering what emotion was going to win out in the end. "What….just….happened?" Carter's voice wavered as he slowly raised his head to look at me. "I thought that was fairly obvious mate, we marked you, claimed you as our own. Don't worry about it too much, I promise that Elinn is going to appreciate it soon and so will you. There is a method to my madness after all," I told him flicking his nose playfully. "What are you talking about? You obviously marked him against Elinn's wishes and without his permission! What sort of plan is your twisted little mind?" Nathan's tone was accusatory but I decided to be the kind immortal I am I would not rip out his insides. "This doesn't involve you Nathan but since Elinn seems to like you I will ignore your behavior for now. I marked him so that Elinn could see the real him, she can feel and sense his emotions. He has no way to hide his intentions from her anymore or his memories. She can see who he really is, who she really is, she won't have to constantly question the world around her, she will have one person who will always give her an honest answer." Carter's eyes met mine once again and his filled with tears as his emotions finally settled. With a sob, he stood pulling us into his chest enveloping us in a hug. "Thank you….thank you….I'm so sorry….thank you."
