Chapter 228
Anna’s POV:
I was checking the evening news in the living room when Blake appeared behind me. Tilting my head back, I bumped against his stomach. Has ever burned into mine, instantly charging the air between us.
“You’re teasing me,” he said, voice low. He held up his bandaged hands. Help me take these off. They’re in my way.”
I rolled my eyes, “Cut it out. Remember what the doctor said?”
Blake sat beside me, his body heat radiating against my skin. “Was too busy worrying about you to listen. What’d he say?”
‘Keep your hands up to prevent swelling. Tell me if you feel feverish. The doctor said you might spike a fever-”
Blake suddenly pressed his forehead against mine. ‘Feel me. Am 1 hot?”
I pushed his head away, touching his forehead. “You’re fine.”
“Wait, I said, getting up.
I returned with a thermometer, my mind flashing to his injury–severe burns on his wrists, shirt sleeves cut away, pulling at raw skin. And I’d caused it.
“Looking pretty intense there, Blake said with a laugh. “Anyone watching might think you’re about to murder me with that thing.
96.8,” I read. “Good. I’ll check again later. Feel anything weird, tell me immediately and we’ll call the doctor.”
Blake just stared, his eyes clear and warm with something that looked damn close to love. Our gazes locked, turning the air thick and intimate. Despite everything, he was gorgeous.
“The way you look when you’re worried about me,” he said. “Breathtaking. I’ll remember it forever.”
I felt my face flush. “Nothing worth watching anyway,” I muttered, closing my laptop, desperate to escape the intensity.
Blake raised his bandaged hands, feigning innocence. “Leaving me? It hurts like hell.”
‘I’ll get your pain meds.”
He caught me with his arm, pulling me close. ‘Don’t bother.”
His voice dropped to`pure seduction. “Just kiss me. That’s all I need.” He paused, eyes locking with mine. “Kiss me first. OK?”
I couldn’t move, frozen in place. I’d planned to give him a quick peck and be done, but his request to initiate it myself, combined with those expectant eyes, made it impossible.
“I’m only taking care of you because you got hurt because of me,” I snapped. “Drop the mind games.”
‘No games,” he said softly. “I’m hurt because of you, and all I want is one kiss. Fair, isn’t it?”
I had nothing.
“Anna,” he continued, gently but firmly. “You’re scared. You’re avoiding me. Running away.” Then simply: “You
ine.”
Before I could argue, his mouth took mine, his taste flooding my senses. The kiss was aggressive and wild, like he needed to prove his point. No escape–he held me tight against him.
My heart hammered as I gave in, my body betraying me by pressing closer. My back arched, fingers climbing to his shoulders on their own.
My breasts rose and fell with each quick breath as heat spread across my skin and a moan escaped my throat.

Chapter 228
“Answer me,‘ he whispered, voice rough and dangerous. “Your heart’s mine. You fucking love when I touch you.
His kisses softened, trailing down my neck. Despite his bandaged hands, he popped open my top buttons. His hot mouth found my collarbone, teeth
sensitive skin.
Even injured, Blake used his weight to press me into the couch, his hardness grinding against me. My whole body burned–wasn’t I supposed to be taken care of him?
Anna, he challenged, “you always say you’re brave about love. Why chicken out now? That fucking hard to admit you love me?”
1 melted completely, my legs spreading involuntarily. My body plastered against his, breasts crushed to his chest, heat pulsing between us. My oxygen- starved brain couldn’t think–only feel.
My hands slipped under his shirt, exploring the hard planes of his abs and broad back. Every inch of me craved his touch.
“Say yes, he pleaded. “Try us. Try me.”
My body shook uncontrollably while I fought for clarity, finding none. An impossiblé equation.
“What the hell did I do so wrong?” Blake demanded. “If there’s something wrong, tell me. Don’t play this game of fake harmony. I can’t take it! I want all of you–body and soul!*
I pushed up to look at him, then collapsed back, staring at the ceiling as something inside me finally gave way.
“Blake,” I said, voice husky, ‘being with you is betting everything I’ve got.”
‘I lost it all before. Haven’t even recovered my original stake.”
‘Now you want me to bet on you again when I might only have one life left.”
“My life is yours to take, Anna,” he promised. “This time, I won’t let you lose!”
I confronted the elephant in the room: “Claire has always been a problem for me.”
“I won’t see her anymore unless it’s truly important,” he conceded.
My heart softened. If Blake was choosing my side, maybe I could find room for her in our lives too.
Without further hesitation, I answered firmly: “Okay!”
The combination of desire and decision made my head spin like I’d downed strong liquor. My reason surrendered to want.
“To hell with caution,‘ I thought, suddenly pushing Blake back onto the couch.
I straddled him hard, my dress riding up to expose most of my thighs.
I grabbed his face, thumbs tracing his lips, feeling each hot breath.
I pressed forward, my breasts crushing against his chest through thin fabric, nipples hardening instantly.
With flushed cheeks, I attacked his mouth, my tongue forcing its way in, exploring every inch.
I tasted him deeply, our tongues fighting for control. I bit his lower lip, tugging it before releasing with a wet pop, saliva stringing between us.
My fingers yanked his hair, tilting his head back as I dominated the kiss. My hips ground against his obvious erection, drawing a deep moan from my throat.
“Blake… I growled in his ear, voice dripping with raw need.
1 reached between us, my hand finding him through his pants, stroking firmly as I watched his eyes roll back.

I unbuttoned his shirt with my free hand, pushing it open to expose his chest. My mouth explored his neck, teeth scraping, sucking hard enough to leave
marks.
‘Fuck,” he gasped as my hand worked him through his pants. “Anna…*
Desperate for more contact, I pressed my core against his thigh, shameless in seeking friction. The thin material of my panties was soaked through as I rocked against him.
Just as I was about to unzip his pants, with clothing becoming the enemy and Blake frustrated by his useless bandaged hands, the doorbell rang.
“Ignore it,” Blake growled, sweat beading on his forehead. “Don’t stop.”
But the doorbell became pounding, then a voice shouted:
“Blake, open the fucking door!”
Reality crashed in as I recognized Seth’s voice.
