Chapter62 Serving Her

Chapter62 Serving Her
Linnea stared at Caius in a daze, her heart trembling slightly.
After a long silence, she still kept the secret in her heart. She only said: "I really don't know."
"But they didn't even find the source of the poison at the crime scene." Caius lowered his eyes, staring at her intently. "They're speculating that maybe the victim destroyed the poisoned item in a panic."
They guessed right.
The poisoned double pendant necklace was indeed hidden by Linnea.
Because the necklace was still engraved with her mother's name and hers.
If this necklace fell into Caius's hands, everything would become more complicated. She couldn't let Caius discover her deepest secret at this point when nothing was certain yet. Her true identity.
So she deliberately put it in the most hidden place. Inside her diary.
Caius also hadn't allowed the search personnel to randomly go through her personal belongings. This saved her.
Caius still tried to reassure her:
"Linnea, what are you worried about? Do you really not want to reveal this information? As long as you tell me, I can definitely help you."
"I really don't know." Linnea gazed into Caius's eyes.
Caius sighed: "Then if you change your mind later, please tell me. I'll get revenge for you."
The matter was temporarily set aside. A doctor brought in a nutritious lunch.
Caius naturally arranged the dishes and chopsticks, helped her prop up her pillow, and fed her the food spoonful by spoonful.
Linnea's mind became idle. She began recalling Carla's every move, analyzing why she'd fallen into the trap Carla set.
The key point was Carla.
Linnea had been vigilant since childhood, but Carla seemed too harmless.
From beginning to end, she acted like an extremely weak traditional wife, hiding behind her husband and children, taking an evasive attitude toward everything.
She was different from naturally evil demons like Vivienne and Jax who were stained with the Knight family's blood. She was fragile and passive. This made Linnea always overlook her danger.
She never imagined Carla would frame her in such a vicious way.
The last bit of memory about their past friendship also collapsed in her heart.
Carla was definitely not what she pretended to be on the surface. There were too many mysteries hidden in Carla, in Vivienne, and even in the entire Knight family.
Moreover, Linnea was horrified to realize a fact. When she noticed Caius had been gripping her hand tightly.
"Why do you keep holding my hand?"
"Your hand is too cold." Caius carefully gripped her fingers and pressed them against his face. Her icy fingertips felt Caius's normal body temperature. Caius didn't have a fever, but in contrast to her extremely cold fingers, he was hotter than a furnace, as if he could burn off a layer of skin.
And five years ago, when her mother died, the maid who'd stayed by her mother's side also cried and said:
"In her final moments, Laurel's hands were as cold as Arctic ice. I had to call to her repeatedly to make sure whether she was dead or not..."
How could it be such a "coincidence"?
Her mother's death... was it really just an accident?
Deep ripples stirred in Linnea's heart.
If she found out her mother's death really wasn't an accident, but was deliberately planned by someone, then even if she had to sacrifice her own life, she'd make the culprit pay with blood!
"You look very pained." Caius gently rubbed her cheek. "What's wrong, little cat?"
Linnea quickly composed her expression. She also poked Caius's face: "Your face is too hot."
"Alright then." Caius had to tuck her hand back into his embrace. "You're such a troublesome sick cat... very difficult to serve."
"And whose fault is that?" Linnea muttered, blaming him. "If you hadn't insisted on bringing me to the Knight family party, I wouldn't have been bullied so much in one day. They broke my things, humiliated me, even made me suffocate and almost die! Caius, don't you feel guilty at all? You don't feel bad for me..."
As Linnea spoke, she closed her mouth.
She found that Caius beside her was frighteningly quiet.
She looked over in confusion, only to see a pair of deep, sorrowful green eyes.
"Caius? Did I say something wrong?"
"No." Caius spoke with difficulty. "I rarely have regrets. But if I could go back in time, I would never choose to bring you into the Knight family. I wouldn't accept the Knight family's party invitation just to tease you. During that time, I'd lock you at home, stick to you 24 hours a day, fuck you, make you unable to leave my dick at all, so you wouldn't be bullied by any scum..."
"Hey! Caius, what are you even saying!"
Linnea frantically stopped him.
"What's wrong with what I said?" Caius put on a look of curiosity. "You think it's too tiring? Then I can give you some rest time."
Linnea's face flushed red: "That's not it at all! And what's the point of hypotheticals now? You should apologize to me, compensate me, promise to do anything until I calm down!"
Linnea's face still had a sickly pallor, but she was quite spirited when complaining about him.
Caius couldn't help but laugh: "Alright. Then may I ask my poor little cat, how should I, the bad person who hurt you, compensate you?"
Linnea warily pulled out her phone and turned on the recorder: "First promise that you won't hold any of my actions today against me."
Caius agreed with suppressed laughter.
Only then did Linnea relax. Her eyes rolled around: "I'm thirsty. Pour me some water."
"Mission accepted, my girl."
So Caius went to the bedside table to pour water, deliberately adjusting the temperature to the most suitable level before supporting the back of Linnea's head and passing the water into her mouth: "Is this okay... this way it won't spill."
After releasing Linnea, her lips showed suspicious swelling.
Linnea glared at him angrily: "I asked you to give me water. Why did you come over and kiss me? You're totally cheating."
"Is that not allowed? I'll pay attention next time." Caius waved his hand indifferently.
Linnea felt stifled. This Caius always seized every opportunity to bully her!
"My feet are so sore." Linnea showed a cunning smile. "Caius, if I ask you to massage my feet, you definitely won't refuse, right?"
Caius's eyes deepened for a moment.
Meeting that gaze, Linnea became timid. She still didn't dare provoke this temperamental emperor: "Never mind if you can't. Don't lose your temper..."
"Why can't I?" Caius interrupted her.
Under Linnea's increasingly hesitant gaze, he smiled gently:
"Miss Linnea, serving you... is my honor."
