Chapter 190

Chapter 190

On the way to the hospital, she gripped his ice-cold hand, her tears flowing nonstop.

The news spread like wildfire across all major media outlets: Michael Wilson, CEO of the Wilson Group, had been critically injured and hospitalized after saving his wife Emily from a massive fire at an upscale restaurant. The incident had shocked the entire city, triggering endless speculation.

Outside the VIP ward, Emily stood pale and distraught by the emergency room doors, her clothes still stained with smoke and Michael's blood.

Her mind kept replaying the moment when Michael shielded her from the falling beam. The memory cut through her like a knife, overwhelming her with worry and fear.

She occasionally touched her belly, whispering, "Baby, Daddy's going to be okay. We just have to hang in there for him."

The hallway bustled with activity as medical staff hurried past, occasionally glancing at Emily with looks of sympathy, curiosity, and even judgment.

Emily huddled on a corner bench, her clothes dirty and disheveled from falling and smoke. The scrapes on her elbows and knees had scabbed over but still throbbed with pain.

She couldn't bring herself to care about any of that. Her eyes remained fixed on the emergency room's red light, each second feeling like torture.

Suddenly, the sharp click of approaching high heels echoed down the hallway, carrying with them an unmistakable air of fury.

Victoria had arrived.

She had clearly seen the news and rushed over. Her usually perfect hair was slightly disheveled, her face stripped of its typical elegant composure, replaced by rage and bitter resentment.

She immediately spotted Emily waiting by the door, and her piercing eyes instantly blazed with fury!

"Emily!" Victoria practically screamed as she charged forward, raising her hand and swinging it viciously toward Emily's face!

"You walking disaster! I knew nothing good would come from you! Look what you've done to my son! Why don't you just drop dead!"

Emily, overwhelmed by grief and worry, reacted a split second too late.

As the slap was about to land, she instinctively tried to dodge, but Victoria moved too quickly. Her fingertips still managed to graze Emily's cheek, leaving a stinging pain.

"Mr. Wilson, please, just calm down!" Emily held her face, fighting back the humiliation as she tried to explain. "The restaurant fire was an accident! Nobody wanted this to happen! Michael was just trying to save me when..."

"Accident? Another accident?" Victoria cut her off, completely deaf to any explanation. Her eyes were like poisoned daggers as she glared at Emily. "Ever since you showed up, Michael's been surrounded by 'accidents'! First he was drugged, then kidnapped, and now he's fighting for his life because of a fire!

Emily, you're nothing but bad luck! Won't you be satisfied until he's dead?"

Her shrill voice echoed through the hallway, drawing stares from medical staff and visitors alike.

Emily stared at Victoria's face, twisted with anger, and felt a profound sense of helplessness wash over her.

She knew Victoria had never liked her and looked down on her background, but she never imagined that in this life-or-death moment, Victoria would focus on blaming her rather than worrying about Michael.

All of Victoria's past slights and contempt now pierced Emily's heart like sharp thorns.

"It's not like that! Michael and I truly love each other. These accidents were beyond our control..." Emily tried to defend herself, but her voice sounded hollow against Victoria's hysterical accusations.

"Shut up! I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses!" Victoria slashed her hand through the air, her face hardening with cold determination, as if she'd just made up her mind. "I was originally going to let you off easy—just take some cash and disappear. But now, I've changed my mind!"

She nodded to the two tall bodyguards behind her and commanded, "Grab her!"

The bodyguards immediately moved forward, seizing Emily's arms from both sides!

"What are you doing? Let go of me!"

Emily's internal alarm bells went off as she struggled desperately, but as a pregnant woman, she was no match for two professional bodyguards.

Victoria stepped forward, her cold gaze fixed on Emily's belly with a chilling calmness and cruelty in her voice.

"This child will be a disaster just like you, and I won't allow it! As long as this baby exists, you and Michael will never truly be separated, and you'll keep bringing him nothing but trouble! Today, I'm putting an end to this once and for all!"

"No—you can't do this! This is Michael's and my baby—your own grandchild!" Emily's eyes widened in terror as tears streamed down her face. She twisted her body frantically, begging Victoria.

With Victoria's people surrounding them, Emily could only plead for her child's life.

"Mrs. Wilson! Please, spare my baby! This is an innocent life! The Wilson's blood runs through this child's veins!"

Emily felt a slight movement in her belly, as if the baby was responding to her desperate cries.

Her heart clenched tighter. This unborn child was the product of her and Michael's love, the hope that had sustained her through all her hardships. She couldn't let Victoria harm the baby!

"The Wilson's blood?" Victoria sneered, her eyes filled with contempt and disgust.

"You? You think you're worthy of carrying a child with Wilson blood? I will never allow a walking disaster, an orphan with nothing, to taint our noble Wilson bloodline!

Take her to the operating room! Get the abortion done immediately!"

"No... please don't! Help! Doctor, nurse, somebody help me save my baby!" Emily was roughly dragged toward the elevator as she screamed desperately, looking around for help.

But the medical staff, under Victoria's cold and threatening gaze, mostly lowered their heads, unwilling to interfere in what appeared to be the Wilsons' "family business."

A wave of complete despair washed over Emily.

Once again, she found herself trapped with no way out.

She was forcibly taken to an operating room on another floor of the hospital.

The cold surgical lights were turned on, and doctors and nurses in white coats and masks were already prepared, with surgical instruments gleaming on the tray.

The room reeked of antiseptic—cold and pungent.

Emily was pinned to the hard operating table. Looking up at the blinding lights above, she felt the room spinning around her.

She could hear her own heart pounding violently, and Victoria standing nearby, letting out a cold laugh.
