Chapter 63: Reconcile with You

Chapter 63: Reconcile with You

Harriet felt a bit soft-hearted.

She didn't answer, but lifted her head and kissed Tristan.

He moved gently, as if afraid of hurting her, but Harriet still ended up exhausted.

Tristan didn't use a condom—there wasn't any of that stuff in the house.

The next morning, after washing up and coming out of the bathroom, he saw Harriet taking a morning-after pill.

Tristan's expression darkened slightly, but he didn't say anything.

They'd been getting along well these past couple of days. Although they weren't having sex as often, Harriet was no longer as cold toward him as before. She wasn't exactly warm, but it was much better than before.

Tristan thought that before long, she'd be willing to have a child.

Maybe once they had a child, her attitude would change, and she'd love him like she used to.

He didn't like children, but as long as everything could go back to how it was, he didn't mind having one with Harriet.

The next day.

On the way to work, Harriet remembered what Jasper had said.

"By the way, why did you give Uncle Jasper more properties? He doesn't need that many."

Tristan was checking his emails and said casually, "It's what he deserves. Consider it my way of making it up to Grandma."

Though Harriet didn't want to accept it, she ultimately didn't refuse. "He'll keep the properties for now, but Uncle Jasper turned down the idea of building a chain. He says he doesn't have that kind of ability."

"Everyone has their own path. I won't force him. Tell him if he needs anything in the future, he can come to me."

"Okay."

Tristan turned to look at her. "Did Uncle Jasper say anything else to you?"

"No."

Harriet felt a bit guilty.

She obviously couldn't tell him about Jasper's words encouraging them to reconcile.

Actually, these past few days, though things seemed calm on the surface, her heart was in chaos.

She admitted that her sealed-off heart had started to waver slightly.

It wasn't entirely because of Tristan's compromise that night—it was more because Jasper had brought up Cleo.

Though Cleo had only met Tristan a few times, she'd always liked him, saying he didn't seem like a bad person and was worth trusting.

Even on her deathbed, Cleo couldn't stop thinking about Tristan, her granddaughter's husband.

Maybe Jasper was right—no matter what, Harriet should give this marriage one more chance.

But the pain he'd caused her time and time again—she couldn't forget it.

So she was torn.

Her phone suddenly rang. It was Chase calling.

Harriet couldn't help but smile as she answered.

Tristan heard their conversation, and after she hung up, he asked, "Going to the Johnson family tonight?"

"Yes, I'm Chase's family doctor. I need to go give him his regular checkup."

Tristan was a bit unhappy. "Didn't I return the check to Nolan? You don't have to go."

"He gave me the money again." Harriet said seriously, "And I already promised him. Keeping your word is the foundation of being a person. Chase and I have a good relationship. If you don't want me to see Mr. Johnson and try to stop me from seeing Chase, I can't do that."

After these past few days, Tristan had come to understand her somewhat.

She was actually someone with strong principles, and her boundaries couldn't be crossed.

In this matter, taking care of Chase was her boundary.

It was only once a week. With him there, no matter how charming Nolan was, he couldn't seduce Harriet away.

Tristan compromised. "Fine. I'll pick you up after work and go with you."

"That's not necessary, is it?"

"I said I'm going with you."

His tone left no room for argument.

Evening.

The Rolls-Royce pulled into a luxury villa district and stopped outside a villa.

As soon as Harriet got out of the car, Chase rushed over excitedly. "Harriet, I missed you so much!"

"I missed Chase too." Harriet handed him the gift box in her hand. "This is a present I brought for you."

"Thank you, Harriet." Chase saw Tristan standing beside her and greeted him politely, "Mr. Lancaster."

Tristan was displeased. "Why do you call her Harriet but call me Mr. Lancaster?"

"You're about the same age as my dad, so of course you're Mr. Lancaster." Chase explained seriously, "Harriet is much younger than you guys, and she's so pretty. I like her more."

Tristan was momentarily speechless. "Didn't your dad tell you that I'm Harriet's husband?"

"He did." Chase blinked. "But when I grow up, you won't be anymore."

"Why not?"

"Because when I grow up, I can be Harriet's husband, and you'll have to leave her." Chase said seriously, "I'm just letting you take care of Harriet for now."

Tristan raised his hand and pinched the bridge of his nose.

Why was he arguing about this with a child?

Harriet laughed out loud. "Chase is the cutest. Let's go inside."

"Okay."

Nolan came downstairs and was quite surprised to see Tristan, but quickly hid his surprise and said to Harriet with a smile, "Chase waited for you at the door all afternoon. I told him you wouldn't be here that early, but he insisted on waiting."

Harriet patted Chase's head. "Next week I'll come earlier and spend the whole day with you."

"Okay!"

Harriet examined Chase while Nolan took Tristan to the study.

Tristan watched Nolan's hands as he made coffee and said calmly, "Mr. Johnson has a nice house. Why didn't you let us know about your housewarming? We should have come to congratulate you."

Nolan could certainly hear him asserting his claim and responded with a smile, "I bought this house a long time ago, I just never lived in it. It's not really a new place."

Tristan raised an eyebrow. "Looks like Mr. Johnson likes to set up homes everywhere. Coming to Emberfall just for those Brown family shares—isn't that a bit much?"

"Mr. Lancaster is right, it is a bit much." Nolan handed him a cup. "Chase's health isn't great. Emberfall has good doctors who can make sure nothing goes wrong with him."

Tristan took the cup. "You might as well say you came here directly for my wife."

Nolan neither confirmed nor denied it. "Harriet is a good doctor, there's no question about that."

Tristan took a sip of coffee. "Tastes good."

"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Lancaster."

"Harriet is indeed a good doctor and really likes Chase, so naturally she'll take good care of his health." Tristan smiled. "When Harriet and I have a child, they can keep Chase company too."

Nolan's hand holding the cup paused. "You and Harriet made up?"

"Soon."

Nolan took a sip of coffee and smiled. "As far as I know, ever since what happened to Harriet in Luminara City, Mr. Lancaster has been protecting Ms. Brown very well, afraid Harriet might hurt her. Mr. Lancaster, you can't be too greedy, and Harriet is definitely not the kind of person who's weak."

"My business is none of Mr. Johnson's concern." Tristan's deep eyes were full of warning. "Just make sure you don't cross the line between doctor and patient."

Nolan smiled back. "Whether that's enough depends on Mr. Lancaster's attitude toward Harriet. As Harriet's friend, I want to tell Mr. Lancaster that if Harriet chooses to continue this marriage, please cherish her. Otherwise, a good woman like Harriet—even if it's not me, there will be other men lining up to have her."
