Chapter 387: Wife, I Am Leaving
Chapter 387: Wife, I Am Leaving
Griffin!
Harriet would absolutely not tolerate him continuing to do evil!
She propped herself up and went back to her room, washed her face, and after making sure she looked normal, went downstairs to eat.
When Caspian learned she was up, he quickly came downstairs. "Harriet, you look much better after that nap."
Harriet curved her lips slightly, "I'm fine, Caspian. How's the investigation going?"
"No progress. Ms. Rodriguez's death was basically just an accident."
Harriet knew very well that the person who had just called Caspian was Tristan.
The two of them had agreed not to tell her the truth about Helena's death.
Harriet didn't call them out on it, just nodded. "What's done is done, nothing can be undone now."
"So don't overthink it." Caspian said, "I've already arranged for people to handle Ms. Rodriguez's funeral, and brought her family back to see her off one last time."
"Okay." Harriet continued eating. "Caspian, I'm fine now. You can go take care of your own business."
"Then I'll go make a phone call."
"Okay."
After finishing her meal, Harriet went back to her room to get ready and prepare to go out.
"Mrs. Lancaster, where are you going?" Iris came forward to ask.
"I want to go out for a drive to get some air."
"Let Mr. Romanov go with you."
"He's busy, I'll go by myself." Harriet said, "I'll have bodyguards with me, I'll be fine."
"Then take a few more bodyguards to stay safe."
"Don't worry."
Harriet drove out and went straight to Lakeside Gardens.
Originally she wanted to shake off the bodyguards first, but Lakeside Gardens had people arranged by Tristan secretly watching Griffin, so she couldn't hide her visit from them.
After she rang the doorbell, Griffin quickly came to open the door.
Griffin, standing tall and straight in a light-colored casual suit, his refined and handsome face unchanged from the past.
Griffin smiled, greeting her as if nothing had happened. "Harriet, you're here. Please come in."
Harriet looked at him coldly and walked into the house in her high heels.
"What would you like to drink?"
"Your blood."
Griffin's hand paused while pouring water. He quickly poured out a glass of warm water and placed it on the coffee table.
The next second, he took a fruit knife from the fruit basket and without hesitation slashed open his palm!
Blood immediately gushed out!
Griffin held his bleeding hand over the water glass, then turned to look at Harriet. "It won't taste very good, but make do."
Harriet curved her lips in a cold smile.
"Mr. Wallace!" The servant saw this scene and immediately came forward asking, "Are you alright? I'll call the doctor!"
"No need." Griffin said calmly, "Bring the medical kit, then you can go off duty."
The servant didn't dare disobey and immediately complied.
Griffin opened the medical kit and while skillfully treating his wound, he said, "When I first arrived in Vesperia, getting injured was a daily occurrence. To climb up, I followed the boss into gang fights, even digging out bullets from my own body."
Harriet smiled. "You chose your own path. Don't you find it ridiculous to reminisce about your hardships now?"
Griffin remained calm. "It was indeed hard, but I don't regret it."
"Of course you don't regret it." Harriet said coldly, "Going to Vesperia, you could not only make money but also do evil and kill my benefactor!"
"You know?" Griffin raised an eyebrow. "I originally thought Tristan wouldn't tell you this. After all, dying in an accident is better than dying because of you."
Griffin finished bandaging his hand, then looked at her again. "Harriet, I love seeing that look in your eyes now, because you're really becoming more and more like me. I want to make you like me, full of hatred. Since you can't love me, I'll make you hate me. After all, hatred can also be unforgettable."
Helpless tears streamed down, Harriet trembled as she spoke, "Griffin, I really regret not killing you earlier, which led to the death of innocent Ms. Rodriguez."
"You can't kill me." Griffin looked calm. "Your life is in my hands. If I die, you'll die too."
"I'm not afraid of death." What she feared was things like today happening, innocent people dying because of her!
"You're not afraid, but Tristan is." Griffin smiled. "If you die, he'll suffer a fate worse than death. Not to mention you have a daughter, and the Romanov family you just reunited with. Your biological mother hasn't even woken up to reunite with you yet. How can you bear to leave them?"
"Griffin, you really do understand me." Harriet pulled at the corners of her mouth. "I indeed can't bear to leave my loved ones and family, but innocent people dying because of me hurts more than killing me."
"So Griffin, I won't tolerate you continuing to do evil anymore, even if it means mutual destruction." Harriet's eyes were icy. "When Grandma saved you and your mother, it was originally a good deed, but it turned out she raised a wolf with her own hands!"
"I think Grandma's spirit in heaven must also regret very much that she saved you back then."
"Now, everything should end."
"Harriet," Griffin looked at her calmly, "are you really going to kill me?"
Harriet didn't speak, just quickly pulled out a gun from her bag, aimed it at Griffin, and fired almost without hesitation!
A gunshot rang out in the spacious, luxurious living room.
Griffin looked down, slowly looking at the bullet that hit his chest.
Harriet cried while shouting out loud as if breaking down.
Her eyes bloodshot, she continued firing!
Griffin's front was hit with several bullets, bright red blood instantly soaking through the suit on his chest!
Griffin slowly looked up, his face full of pain as he looked at her. "Harriet, you really have the heart to kill me!"
Just as Harriet was about to speak, her heart suddenly felt a sharp pain!
The gun in her hand dropped to the floor. She painfully clutched her heart, feeling the pain getting worse and worse!
Harriet collapsed in pain, her whole body curled up, the pain making it difficult to breathe!
The door was suddenly burst open, and Tristan strode in. Seeing the scene before him, he immediately went forward to help Harriet up from the floor. "Harriet, how are you!"
"Tristan..." Harriet endured the pain, raising her trembling hand to touch his face. "I can finally touch you... Everything should end now."
"We're leaving!" Tristan picked her up and got up to leave.
He carried Harriet to the car. Seeing her covered in sweat, forcing herself to endure the pain, his heart felt like it was being cut by knives. "Honey, I have to leave, otherwise you won't be able to bear this pain."
Harriet bit her lower lip and nodded gently.
"Good girl." Tristan kissed her forehead. After a few seconds, he reluctantly forced himself to turn and leave.
The driver drove back to Cloud Bay. After getting away from Tristan, the stabbing pain in Harriet's heart slowly dissipated.
After returning home, Caspian came out to meet her. "Harriet, you were too impulsive! Your life is tied to Griffin's. How could you try to kill him?"
"Is my life important but Ms. Rodriguez's life not?" Harriet shot back. "This time it was Ms. Rodriguez who died, but who will be next? I can't let innocent people die at the hands of that demon Griffin anymore. Even if it means mutual destruction, I don't think there's anything to regret."
"Harriet, you underestimate Griffin too much." Caspian sighed. "He's not dead at all."
"How is that possible?" Harriet couldn't believe it. "I fired several shots, every one of them hit him! Did I just not hit any vital spots?"
Caspian shook his head. "You did hit vital spots, but Griffin was prepared. He wore a bulletproof vest and even prepared blood packs in advance. The blood he shed was fake. Of all those shots you fired, only one hit his arm and injured him."
Harriet froze, then laughed. "That's Griffin for you. I really did underestimate him. I regret it so much—I should have shot him in the head!"
"Harriet." Caspian gripped her shoulders. "Ms. Rodriguez's death can't be undone. What we need to do now isn't kill Griffin, but break the curse on you. That was also Ms. Rodriguez's dying wish."
"I don't care about all that!" Harriet's pent-up emotions completely broke down. She pushed Caspian's hands away. "All I know is that Ms. Rodriguez shouldn't have died, she shouldn't have died this way!"
Harriet turned to walk out. "I'm going to finish him off right now. I must kill that scumbag!"
"Harriet, calm down!" Caspian quickly grabbed her, not letting her leave. "Don't you want to see the message Ms. Rodriguez left for you?"
Harriet's struggling body suddenly froze. "Ms. Rodriguez left a message?"
"Yes." Caspian held her wrist. "Come with me."
Harriet was led by Caspian into the house, straight to the master bedroom.
Harriet was a bit doubtful. "Caspian, you're not lying to me, are you?"
Caspian took out an old phone from his pocket. "Tristan had people investigate Ms. Rodriguez's cause of death thoroughly. They found a recorded audio on her phone and discovered that Ms. Rodriguez's daughter, who had been missing for years, is in Vesperia, currently in Griffin's hands."
"The person controlling Ms. Rodriguez's daughter threatened Ms. Rodriguez to commit suicide, or else they'd kill her daughter. Ms. Rodriguez loved her daughter dearly and had never given up searching for her all these years. Now knowing her daughter was still alive, Ms. Rodriguez naturally chose to protect her daughter, so she went down that desperate path."
Caspian opened the phone, which had no password, and clicked on a video in the photo album.
"This video was left by Ms. Rodriguez for you. Take your time watching it." Caspian placed the phone in Harriet's hands and turned to leave.
Harriet sat on the sofa and pressed the play button on the screen.
The video showed Helena's aged face. From the background, she was in her own room.
"Mrs. Lancaster, I have many things I want to tell you, but when I called you just now, I couldn't bring myself to say them."
"I never told you that I have a daughter. Years ago, I wanted to teach her witchcraft, but she refused to learn. After a big fight with me, she ran away from home and never came back."
"I've been looking for her all this time, and I've been blaming myself. Why did I pressure her? I regret it more and more, feel more and more guilty. I kept thinking that as long as she could come back safely, I'd be willing to trade anything for it."
"Heaven has blessed me—I finally got news of her, and I'm truly happy."
"Don't be sad, and don't blame yourself. Don't feel that my death is because of you. I'm willingly dying for my daughter. I'm old now, and there's so little I can do for my children. Not being a burden to them is already good enough."
"All I ask is that my death will make them keep their word and release my daughter. If she comes back, could you help guide her onto the right path?"
"I don't ask for her to be rich and successful, I only ask that she be an honest person and live a stable life."
"If I have regrets, I do have one—what you mentioned on the phone just now about establishing a laboratory to research witchcraft and use it in medicine to benefit society."
"I really think that's a wonderful idea, and I'd love to participate and contribute what little I can, but unfortunately, I can't help anymore."
"Mrs. Lancaster, you are a good person, and good people will be rewarded. Wherever I go, I will bless you, hoping you can escape your suffering soon and live peacefully and smoothly."
Finally, Helena showed a kind smile. "Goodbye, dear child."
The video ended. Harriet looked at the kind face frozen on the screen at the end, her heart aching so much she couldn't breathe.
Her hands gripped the phone tightly as she curled up on the sofa, crying uncontrollably.
Outside the door, Caspian heard the crying from inside the room and pulled out a cigarette to light up.
"Will Harriet be okay?" Coralie asked worriedly. "Should we go in and check on her?"
"Let her cry." Caspian blew out a smoke ring. "She'll be fine once she vents it out."
Coralie nodded. "Then I'll go prepare some food for her. We can have her eat something later when her emotions stabilize."
Caspian replied flatly, "Whatever you want."
Coralie looked at him, wanting to say something but hesitating.
She knew that if it weren't for Harriet, Caspian wouldn't even talk to her.
With Helena's sudden incident, the matter between the two of them, and the child in her belly, would be temporarily put aside.
Coralie lowered her eyes and turned to go downstairs.
Before Caspian finished his cigarette, Tristan's call came in.
He walked a bit further away before answering. "Harriet watched Helena's video and is crying alone in her room. I thought it'd be good to let her vent, so I didn't go in to disturb her."
"Good." Tristan's weary voice came through. "I've already sent people to rescue Ms. Rodriguez's daughter. Only by bringing her back safely can we do right by Ms. Rodriguez."
"Since you're handling it, I won't get involved. Let me know if you need any help."
"What I need you to do now is take care of Harriet. I can't be by her side, so perhaps only you can comfort her."
"Don't worry. Harriet has always been clear-headed. She'll be fine soon after venting. By the way, how's Griffin?"
"Ryder sent him to the hospital. The gunshot hit his left hand and damaged the nerves. They say he won't be able to lift heavy things anymore."
Caspian let out a cold laugh. "He deserves it! But I'm curious—he only wore a bulletproof vest. Didn't he think that Harriet might just shoot him in the head?"
"Maybe he's just not afraid of dying at Harriet's hands." Tristan said coldly. "I'm not in the mood to analyze what he's thinking right now. Ms. Rodriguez is dead, and the only person who had hope of breaking the curse is gone."
