Chapter 312 He Is Extremely Jealous

Chapter 312 He Is Extremely Jealous

Scarlett told Ambrose about going to meet Ulysses.

Ever since the incident at the construction site, she'd been keeping Ambrose informed about everything she did. It was Ambrose's requirement, supposedly to protect her.

At this critical moment, Scarlett didn't want any more complications.

Ambrose wasn't comfortable with her going alone, so he went with her to the meeting.

In the car, Scarlett looked at Ambrose and voiced her concern, "What if Ulysses sees you there and refuses to give me the evidence?"

Ambrose squeezed her hand and sneered.

"If he won't give it, then he won't. He just wants to use this to control you, and I can't stand it."

Scarlett knew his bravado masked a deeper protective instinct. Truthfully, she shared his unease.

While it was Ulysses’s secondary persona that had displayed such chilling violence, the two identities inhabited the same flesh. She'd never dealt with someone with multiple personalities before and couldn't imagine how one person could change so drastically.

And she didn't know if Ulysses might switch back to his second personality and use her life to threaten Ambrose - that was hard to predict.

Having Ambrose come along gave her peace of mind.

"How do these two personalities switch back and forth anyway? It's just too unbelievable." Scarlett looked puzzled.

"When triggered, they naturally change." Ambrose held her soft hand, enjoying the feel of it.

When triggered, so if the Mitchell Family gave Ulysses another trigger, would he switch back to his second personality?

Last time Ulysses had mentioned he stayed in his second personality to get close to the Mitchell Family. Now that he needed to approach them again, would he have to switch back to his second personality?

Thinking about this made her really worried.

This worry lasted all the way to the meeting place. Ulysses was already sitting there waiting.

As soon as he saw the pair approaching, the faint smile on his face withered.

"Why is he here?" Ulysses asked, his gaze fixed on Scarlett. "Do you not trust me?"

The question hit closer to home than Scarlett cared to admit, but she maintained a diplomatic front, fearing any slip might jeopardize the evidence.

"He had business in the area, so we traveled together," she lied smoothly, then turned to Ambrose with a pointed look.

"You go handle your business!"

Ambrose nodded and walked toward his reserved spot. He hadn't tucked himself away in a private room; instead, he chose a vantage point close enough to remain a constant, looming presence.

Scarlett sat across from Ulysses and got straight to the point.

"You asked me out - what's this about?" She picked up the water glass in front of her and took a small sip.

She was still anxious inside.

Ulysses glanced at her, taking in her reaction. "You're afraid of me?"

Scarlett set the glass down, a small, weary smile touching her lips. "To be honest, we don't know each other that well, and we've had many unpleasant experiences in the past. Even if those events occurred under—let’s say, special circumstances—they still happened. A certain level of apprehension is only natural."

Her response was quite fair. Ulysses didn't press the issue and said:

"I understand. But I want you to know there is no need for fear. Though I'm different from normal people, as long as my personality stays stable in the first personality, there's no problem. You don't need to worry."

Scarlett accepted the explanation with a nod, her expression turning professional. "And the evidence? Have you found something?"

Since he wasn't bringing it up, she'd take the initiative. He knew perfectly well that she came to see him for this reason.

"Yes." Ulysses looked at Scarlett.

His gaze was thoughtful, then he asked another question, "Are you and Ambrose getting married?"

Scarlett was stunned for a moment, then laughed. "What are you thinking? No, that's not happening."

"You allowed him to accompany you today. I assumed your relationship had evolved."

"We have a child, so naturally our relationship is different from others. But as for marriage, I haven't thought about it." Scarlett didn't hide anything from him.

She never hid things from anyone.

"He is a fortunate man," Ulysses murmured, a faint, melancholic smile appearing. "Had it not been for that one night, I doubt he would have ever won your favor."

Scarlett chose not to defend Ambrose or recount the complexities of their past. Instead, she pivoted back to the matter at hand.

"If you have something that can help me, I'd be happy to accept it. But like I told you last time, there's no possibility between us. If you can't accept that and don't want to give me the evidence, I won't blame you."

Ulysses looked at Scarlett quietly, knowing she'd always been sincere, putting everything on the table without any manipulative tactics to deceive people.

That's what made her different from ordinary people.

Then he took out a small box and handed it over.

"Inside there's a key and a USB drive. The USB has some evidence on it. As for the key, it's for a storage unit at the dock. In that unit, there's a list of Indigo's advisors and some other evidence. The number's written on it, you can pick it up when you have time."

Scarlett’s heart hammered against her ribs. This was more than a lead; this was a killing blow to Indigo’s operations.

She reached out to take the box, genuinely thanking him. Ulysses's face showed a smile, then he said, "Can you have dinner with me?"

Scarlett hesitated. Ulysses saw the flicker of reluctance and his expression fell. "It’s quite alright if you can't."

Scarlett wasn't usually one for pity, but the magnitude of his help was undeniable. A meal felt like the least she could offer as a gesture of goodwill. She agreed.

"Have you ordered yet? I’ve realized I’m actually quite hungry." She said.

Ulysses's eyes instantly lit up as he looked at her.

"I did order. I'll have them bring the food."

Scarlett smiled slightly and didn't say anything more, but her phone on the table lit up.

She glanced down at the screen to see a message from Ambrose.

"What are you smiling at him about?"

Scarlett was speechless. She turned to look in Ambrose's direction. At that table, he was sitting alone, also looking over. Though there was some distance, she could still feel the jealousy in his eyes.

Scarlett's lips curved as she lowered her head to reply: [You're so far away, you can see me smiling? Maybe you're seeing things.]

Ambrose replied quickly: [I'm farsighted.]

Scarlett couldn't help but laugh. He could really say anything!

Ulysses watched her laugh at her phone and saw her glance back with a smile, knowing she was interacting with Ambrose.

Suddenly, he felt envious and jealous of Ambrose again.

No matter the sacrifices he made or the risks he took, he remained the outsider looking in.

Soon, the food arrived. Ulysses said, "Let's eat!"

Only then did Scarlett lock her screen, then looked at the table full of dishes, a bit surprised.

These dishes were all to her taste. He actually knew?

For a moment, she didn't know what to say.

"Eat!" Ulysses picked up his knife and fork to serve Scarlett some food.

"I can manage," she insisted, but Ulysses was adamant, carefully placing a portion onto her plate.

Scarlett had to accept his gesture, which made Ambrose over there extremely jealous.
