Chapter 311 Her Comfort
Chapter 311 Her Comfort
Ambrose looked at Scarlett, his eyes deep and searching. "Are you just trying to make me feel better, or do you really mean it?"
Scarlett knew what he was referring to. She reached out and touched his face. "Do you really think I'd lie just to offer you some empty comfort?"
So she was both trying to cheer him up and speaking from her heart.
The heavy cloud over Ambrose lifted, replaced by a sudden, palpable relief. The frustration his family had caused him vanished in that moment.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms.
"I'm really happy to have such an important place in your heart."
"So don't get upset over people who aren't worth it. Smile." Scarlett held his face with both hands and pulled up the corners of his lips, as if making him smile.
He was helpless against her antics and finally couldn't help but laugh.
"There, now that you've smiled, you can't be unhappy." Seeing him smile, A wave of warmth and reassurance washed over Scarlett.
She'd heard that the Boleyn family situation was complicated, but she didn't know the specifics.
She'd never heard Ambrose talk about Boleyn family matters before, but seeing him like this today, she guessed what the problem was.
Cody probably wanted to protect someone, but Ambrose didn't.
"Uncle Gage is Grandpa's second son and has always been his favorite, which is why he's so fearless. He's using this situation to cause trouble for me."
"He’s never respected my position as head of the family, choosing instead to undermine me at every turn. I've turned a blind eye to it, but this time, he's teamed up with outsiders to come after me and hurt you. I won't tolerate it anymore."
"Did he join forces with the Mitchell family?" Scarlett asked.
Ambrose's expression darkened. "We lack the hard evidence for now, but there's little doubt it's true."
Scarlett never imagined Gage would do such a thing. To pull Ambrose down, he'd really stooped low.
The relentless greed within powerful dynasties was a tragedy—a bitter struggle where blood was never thicker than gold.
At this point, Cody wasn't even speaking up. That was really taking favoritism to the extreme.
"Isn't your grandfather afraid of running the Boleyn Group into the ground?"
Ambrose sneered. "My grandfather favors Uncle Gage, but in his heart, the family business matters more than anyone."
That's why he'd thrown out that statement—to let Gage know that without Cody's protection, he was nothing.
"But this time, besides Uncle Gage, there's also Bodhi. Actually, this was probably Bodhi's idea, just using Uncle Gage's name to do it."
Scarlett was shocked. Bodhi really wasn't as simple as he appeared.
"So what are you going to do?"
Ambrose's expression was serious. "Deal with Uncle Gage first, then handle him next."
After talking for a while, Ambrose carried Scarlett to the bathroom to wash up. She still couldn't manage on her own and needed his help.
But washing up made Scarlett feel extremely embarrassed. In bed, she could do anything with him, but in a normal, conscious state, showing him every part of her body and letting him wash her—she just couldn't stay calm.
"I'll wash myself, you go out." She sat on the bathroom chair, urging him to leave.
In the past few weeks when Ambrose was busy, Rhea had helped Scarlett into the bathroom, and she'd managed everything herself.
Tonight, Ambrose came home early, so he was helping with this.
Ambrose ignored her and reached out to take off her clothes. "I've seen it all before, Scarlett; there's no need to be modest now."
Scarlett covered her chest with both hands, refusing to let go. "Ambrose, I wash myself every day. It’s only my balance that’s off; I’m perfectly capable of managing the rest."
Ambrose knew she was shy. He sighed helplessly and finally gave in to her wishes. Before leaving, he reminded her:
"If you can't manage, call me."
After he left, Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief. She really didn't have the nerve to let him wash her—at least not yet.
Ambrose came out of the bathroom, calmed his emotions, and stood by the window to call Chase.
"How's the evidence collection on Bodhi going?"
"We haven't found proof of his conspiracy with the Mitchell family yet."
Ambrose was silent for a moment before saying, "Keep watching him."
After hanging up, Ambrose thought for a while, then made another call.
"How's your progress?" His low voice showed no emotion, but for Ambrose, this was already his most restrained state.
"Did I agree to help you?" Came Ulysses's scornful response.
"Ulysses, if you want to take back the Mitchell Group, your best option is to work with me," Ambrose said.
"I don't care about the Mitchell Group. Besides, even if I get evidence, I won't give it to you. Give up on that idea."
Ulysses was quite blunt.
Ambrose naturally knew what Ulysses was planning. He just wanted Scarlett to owe him a favor, creating a connection and entanglement between them.
But Ambrose would kill that hope.
"You handed over the evidence once before, but what did it actually get you? You still don't have any chance. You should know the two children she gave birth to are mine."
A flicker of irritation crossed Ulysses' face, though it was quickly masked by a sharp laugh. "So what? I don't mind."
"Ambrose, you're just luckier than me. Who'll be lucky in the future is anyone's guess."
"Don't waste your effort. I have evidence, but I won't give it to you."
Ambrose understood what Ulysses meant, but he wasn't hung up on this point. As long as Ulysses brought out the evidence, they'd deal with what came after later.
"A few days ago, she was lucky—just injured from a fall, and she'll recover after a month in bed. But what about next time? Her life?"
This time Ulysses said nothing. Seeing it was working, Ambrose continued, "Think it over carefully."
With that, he hung up.
Given Ulysses's current situation, even if he got the evidence, he'd probably go to her. This wasn't the outcome Ambrose wanted to see, but under the circumstances, there was no other way.
Twenty minutes later, Scarlett had finished her bath. She put on her nightgown and called Ambrose in.
He walked into the bathroom and saw Scarlett's flushed face. The corners of his mouth curved up. He walked over to her, bent down, and scooped her up, not forgetting to tease her.
"Now you even avoid me when bathing. When you said I have the highest place in your heart, was that a lie?"
Scarlett wrapped her arms around his neck, staring at him with her eyes, speaking in a seemingly coquettish tone.
"A little mystery keeps the spark alive, don't you think, or they'll get bored quickly. You don't want to see that happen, do you?"
Ambrose smiled helplessly. "You have a point."
The weeks blurred together, and before long, a month had slipped away. Scarlett's foot healed. During this month, many things happened.
The Boleyn Group's accounts were thoroughly checked. There were no major problems, but the news of Gage being sent to detention spread throughout Silverlight City.
Some saidRumors swirled that Ambrose was cold-blooded enough to see his own flesh and blood behind bars.
Others said Gage's methods couldn't match Ambrose's, so he could only accept defeat and blame no one.
The art gallery project resumed, and it didn't have much impact on the Boleyn Group.
In short, the Boleyn family's power struggles became a topic of casual conversation in Silverlight City after meals.
Octavia's case was settled.
Prison was unavoidable.
Only the progress on Indigo's side hadn't made a major breakthrough, which still made Ambrose a bit anxious.
On Scarlett's first day back at work, Ulysses called her, saying he wanted to meet. He had evidence against Indigo.
