Chapter 317 The Tense Body Relaxed
Chapter 317 The Tense Body Relaxed
Scarlett hung up the phone and asked Hayden.
"Hayden, how did the tracker end up on Yara?"
Despite the chaos they'd just been through, Hayden's young face, so similar to Ambrose's, remained calm and composed.
He nodded. "This morning Yara said she liked that button, so I pinned it on her clothes."
Scarlett really wanted to say thank goodness—a lucky accident.
"Scarlett, don't worry. Yara will be fine," Hayden turned around to comfort her.
"Right, Yara will be fine."
Scarlett crouched down and hugged him tight. Though he hadn't shown fear earlier, she could feel that he'd been scared too and needed comfort.
"Hayden, you were scared just now, weren't you? Don't be afraid. I promise no one will ever hurt you again."
Hayden's tense body gradually relaxed. His little hands wrapped tightly around her neck, his small face pressed against her shoulder.
Scarlett could feel Hayden's emotions. She held him close, gently patting his back.
Xander walked over, dragging the two kidnappers' accomplices on the ground. Soon after, the police arrived—it was Ruben.
After the two kidnappers were thrown into the car, Ruben first asked Xander about the details, then questioned Scarlett. Once he understood the situation, Ambrose arrived and arranged for the mother and son to go home.
"Don't worry, I'll bring Yara back safely. Stay home and don't go anywhere."
Ambrose stood by the car door, trying to calm the anxious Scarlett.
At this moment, though worried, Scarlett didn't dare interfere with Ambrose. She could only nod and take the car back to Lakeside Garden.
Ambrose and Ruben began planning Yara's rescue. He pulled out a device and quickly locked onto Yara's location.
The location was fixed at an abandoned factory in the suburbs. They rushed there quickly, only to find no one inside.
Ambrose stood in the middle of the rundown factory, his face extremely dark, his eyes scanning the surroundings. There was no sign of the child anywhere.
The tracker on Yara had been discovered.
Who could be so capable as to detect such a hidden tracker?
"Ambrose, someone figured out the tracker," Ruben said, looking at the empty factory and kicking a pebble in frustration.
Ambrose's gaze was sharp. "It's a custom-made tracker that even instruments can't detect, yet they identified it. Indigo shouldn't have that kind of skill."
Ruben looked at him. "You mean someone else is involved?"
Ambrose nodded thoughtfully, then had people search the entire factory. Finally, in a very hidden corner, they found the tracker.
Ruben saw the tracker in Ambrose's hand.
"Ambrose, looks like they're good at misdirection and know your methods well."
Ambrose held the tracker, thinking for a moment. He already had some ideas.
"Ambrose, could this person be someone close to you?" After Ruben spoke, something suddenly occurred to him, and his eyes widened.
"Is it Bodhi?"
"Possibly. Maybe Bodhi is the mastermind behind this, and the Mitchell family people are carrying it out."
Ambrose and Ruben quickly got back in the car and left.
In the car, Ambrose pondered what seemed off. After a long while, he turned to Chase beside him and asked.
"What's Bodhi been up to lately?"
"He's been pretty quiet. Besides partying and going to the company, nothing unusual."
Chase paused for two seconds. "Mr. Boleyn, do you suspect he's involved?"
"Unless someone knows what the tracker looks like, ordinary people wouldn't notice it on the button."
The special tracker couldn't even be detected by instruments—how could it be discovered so easily?
Chase thought Ambrose's guess was on the right track.
"Should I check his location?"
Ambrose shook his head. "Don't alert him now. Bodhi definitely knows our people are watching him. He won't slip up and give us a chance to find anything."
Ambrose then thought of something and picked up his phone to call Scarlett, but no one answered.
Ambrose called the bodyguard secretly following her. The call went through quickly.
"Is Scarlett at Lakeside Garden?"
"Mr. Boleyn, Ms. Mellon gave us the slip and left on her own."
Hearing this, Ambrose closed his eyes. Damn it.
It was a diversion tactic.
After hanging up, Ambrose called Finnian and told him to immediately pull up the traffic surveillance around Lakeside Garden to track Scarlett's whereabouts.
Learning that Scarlett was in trouble, Finnian set aside his dislike for Ambrose and got right to work.
While Ambrose tracked Scarlett's whereabouts, he also thought about how to rescue Yara. A few minutes later, he called Bodhi.
"Bodhi, I know you're working with the Mitchell family, masterminding Yara's kidnapping. But you need to know—don't go too far with some things. Once you cross the line, there's no going back."
He got straight to the point.
"Ambrose, what are you talking about? I don't understand," Bodhi's tone sounded confused.
Ambrose was just testing him now, so he simply said.
"Denying it to me won't help. If anything happens to Scarlett and Yara, you know what I'll do!"
"Ambrose, I've already seen how ruthless you can be, but accusing me of kidnapping them without any evidence is really unfair."
Ambrose didn't beat around the bush.
"Bodhi, you're the only one who could identify that tracker, and you have a grudge against me. You're the only one who would kidnap Yara. But I'm telling you, working with the Mitchell family is a dead end."
"This is my last warning to you. Think it over carefully. When you've decided, tell me and I'll go get them." After saying this, Ambrose hung up.
Bodhi's hatred for him wouldn't disappear overnight. If Bodhi was behind this, he needed time to process it and weigh what would be most beneficial.
At this moment, Scarlett was sitting in a car sent by the other party, heading in an unknown direction.
She asked the person in the driver's seat.
"Where's my daughter?"
"Miss, what are you talking about? I don't know. I'm just a taxi driver who picked up a fare to get you. I don't know anything else," the man in front said.
Scarlett narrowed her eyes. The other party was pretty cunning.
"Then where's the destination?" she asked again. Since she didn't know who was behind this, she'd ask about the direction.
"Woodsbury," the driver answered.
Woodsbury?
Scarlett was fairly familiar with Silverlight City, but she'd never heard of Woodsbury. Was it a street or some landmark?
"What kind of place is Woodsbury?"
"A small shop that sells groceries."
Hearing this, Scarlett was getting confused. Had the Mitchell family people taken Yara there?
Or was someone else behind Yara's kidnapping?
"How long will it take to get there?" she pressed.
"If there's no traffic, about half an hour. With traffic, hard to say."
By that calculation, it wasn't far.
Scarlett turned on her phone. As soon as it powered up, she called the number that had called her earlier. They answered.
"I did what you said. I want to hear my daughter's voice," she said.
