Chapter 307 Suspicious Places

Chapter 307 Suspicious Places

Xander’s only job right now was to keep her safe. He didn't go up with the elevator and stayed waiting below.

When he heard the noise, he knew something had gone wrong. When he finally reached the site and saw what had happened, the blood drained completely from his face.

Before long, an ambulance pulled into the construction site. Scarlett and three other people were loaded onto it, and it quickly disappeared down the road.

Ambrose was in the middle of an important dinner when he got the news. He didn't even say goodbye—he just jumped up and ran out, panic written all over his face.

Xander stood waiting at the entrance, his head bowed in shame as Ambrose rushed up.

"Mr. Boleyn... I am so sorry. I failed to keep her safe."

Ambrose looked strained and worried. He didn't care about blame—he only cared about Scarlett's condition.

"What's the situation now?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the emergency room door opened and a masked doctor came out, answering his question.

"The female patient has a broken foot, but otherwise she's fine. Of the three male patients, one is seriously injured, the other two don't have major problems."

The tension in Ambrose's body eased.

As soon as she was settled in a room, Ambrose ordered Chase to find out exactly what went wrong.

How could an elevator in perfect working order suddenly fail right then, and why did it break? Everyone at the construction site needed to be thoroughly investigated.

When Scarlett opened her eyes, she saw Ambrose holding his phone, apparently listening to a call.

When he spoke to the person on the other end, his voice was very low, but Scarlett could still tell he was investigating the cause of the accident.

Scarlett tried to move and found her leg hurt. She groaned.

Ambrose immediately turned around. Seeing she was awake, he quickly said something to the person on the phone and hung up.

"Don't move." He walked over.

Scarlett remembered having an accident at the construction site, but didn't know what exactly had gone wrong. She only felt pain in her leg.

"My leg really hurts."

"Your leg is broken. It's in a cast. You'll need to stay in bed for a month." He walked to her side and tucked in her blanket.

Scarlett frowned. Seeing this, Ambrose comforted her, "You got off light. The others were hurt worse than you."

After learning about the other three people's conditions, Scarlett felt it was a blessing in disguise.

"Everything's usually fine. Why did something suddenly happen today?" She asked.

"We're investigating. This is a critical time—we need to be careful about everything."

Since it had happened, Scarlett could only accept reality.

Ambrose stayed in the hospital room all afternoon, but his phone kept ringing non-stop, so Scarlett told him to go take care of business and called Rhea over instead.

Before leaving, Ambrose said, "I've stationed several bodyguards here. Don't worry, nothing will happen. If you're bored, you can text me."

Scarlett nodded. "Okay, I will. Go take care of things, and be careful yourself."

Ambrose left the hospital room, leaving four skilled bodyguards behind. Xander and Chase left with him.

Chase began a lockdown investigation of the construction site, but word still got out. At four in the afternoon, the relevant authorities showed up to investigate.

They claimed someone had reported that the art museum construction site had inadequate safety measures, causing injuries, and that work needed to be stopped for inspection.

For the authorities to shut them down this fast, it was obvious someone had tipped them off on purpose. And there was really only one person who would dare go up against them—the Mitchell family—there was no one else.

Chase worked hard to investigate and find a way out.

In the evening, after settling the two little ones, Ambrose came to the hospital.

"You should rest at home. Running back and forth like this is exhausting. Without an adult at home, I'm also worried about the kids' safety."

She was worried that their next target might be the children.

"I took them back to Silver Oak Heights. The security there is solid, and there are housekeepers and servants at home. Nothing will happen."

Ambrose sat down in a chair nearby, pinching the bridge of his nose.

Scarlett looked at his tired face and reached out to touch his cheek with concern. "If you're tired, rest early!"

"I'm like this every day. I'm used to it."

"This is the most critical time right now. You need to rest properly. You can't rest well at the hospital."

"There are two beds here. I'll sleep in the other one. I can sleep fine." Ambrose didn't care at all.

Scarlett had no way to deal with him, so she could only say, "Then go wash up first and rest early."

Ambrose had already showered at Silver Oak Heights, so he sat without moving.

"How are you feeling?"

Apart from the leg pain, Scarlett didn't have any other problems, so they started talking about the accident. Scarlett said something.

"I got off light because the site manager blocked some of the poles for me. Otherwise, I don't know what would have happened to me."

Ambrose then asked Scarlett to think carefully about whether those three people had anything suspicious about them.

Scarlett thought for a while but didn't find anything suspicious. But speaking of suspicious people, she thought of Bodhi.

"But be careful of Bodhi. I think he's pretty suspicious."

Ambrose frowned. "How is he suspicious?"

She shook her head. "I can't really say. Anyway, I just feel like everything he does seems suspicious. He acts carefree, but it's actually somewhat deliberate. He doesn't seem like a real playboy."

"Oh, and that day you went to Seaside City, when he explained things about you and Felicity to me, he deliberately led me toward the topic of you and Felicity meeting at Evergreen Club. At the time I was angry about it and didn't pay much attention, but after Felix told me about you, I realized what he'd done."

After listening, Ambrose's face turned cold.

He didn't say anything.

After speaking, Scarlett asked worriedly, "I'm not trying to create problems between you two. I just want you to be on guard."

Ambrose collected himself and reached out to hold her hand. "I know. I've been suspicious of him for a while now. Don't worry."

"I noticed it at lunch, so I'm telling you now. I'm afraid if too much time passes, I'll forget again."

"You had lunch with him at noon?"

So Scarlett told him about running into Bodhi at the cafeteria at lunch, and how she'd left after getting a call from the construction site.

Ambrose’s gaze grew dark and serious.

After Scarlett fell asleep, Ambrose took his phone and left the hospital room, dialing a number.

"Chase, check who Bodhi has been in contact with recently. Check his communications."

"Does Mr. Ambrose Boleyn suspect Ms. Mellon's accident is related to Mr. Bodhi Boleyn?" Chase immediately picked up on the deeper meaning in Ambrose's words.

"Can't rule it out, because she had lunch with Bodhi before going to the construction site. Check it from every angle."

"I understand."

Ambrose hung up and looked out at the city lights, his face serious.

If Gage was planning to make his move, this chaos was the perfect coverat the company, it wasn't impossible.

By causing an accident at the construction site and putting the Boleyn Group in a vulnerable position, he could disrupt the company's internal operations.

For Gage, this was the perfect opportunity.

Then he called Ryder to ask about Bodhi's situation at the company.
