Chapter 303 A Predestined Affinity
Chapter 303 A Predestined Affinity
Since the video of Octavia bullying her classmate went viral online, the Mitchell Family has fallen into chaos. Even Indigo's side has been affected. Perhaps that's exactly why they're going after the Boleyn Group.
A dry, humorless chuckle escaped Ambrose's lips.
"Get ready for their inspection. I want to see what else the Mitchell Family can stir up. If they want to drag someone down with them before they go down, they'd better have what it takes."
Ryder acknowledged, then said, "Mr. Boleyn, I looked into it. The one conducting the audit this time is Kieran Neville. I heard this guy doesn't play favorites, which actually works in our favor."
"Kieran?"
Ambrose knew Kieran. He was the one who handled Orion's case last time, so this person was pretty upright. Why would Indigo send him?
"Since he doesn't play favorites, Indigo sending him here, is he trying to use this opportunity to take down the Boleyn Group? Well, he's got the wrong idea." Ambrose smiled dismissively.
"Kieran is an upright person, and he was sent directly from the top. He has no connection to us whatsoever. The Mitchell Family thinks they can use him against us and just sit back and watch us fall."
Ambrose snorted coldly. Indigo was really ridiculous.
Restlessness gnawed at Scarlett as she sat idle in her office that the idea of starting her own business was getting stronger and stronger, but she needed to talk to Ambrose about this.
She was uncertain of his reaction; while his agreement would be ideal, she dreaded the possibility of a rejection?
Scarlett didn't want their relationship, which had just improved, to become unpleasant because of work issues.
She decided to go up and see him during lunch break to test his attitude.
After lunch, she headed to the top floor. As the elevator rose, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen to find an unrecognized number, but she recognized this unfamiliar number and immediately pressed the answer button.
"Ms. Mellon, your father wants to see you." The voice on the other end spoke.
It was someone from Owen's side.
A while ago, because of Indigo taking office, she didn't dare rashly go see him. Now that Owen was actively looking for her, there must be something going on.
"What time?"
"Tomorrow at ten in the morning."
"Okay, I'll be there on time."
After hanging up, Scarlett wondered that Owen wouldn't call her over for no reason. Was there something important?
Haunted by questions, she reached Ambrose's office only to find it empty. She was just about to text him when Ryder appeared.
"Ms. Mellon, Mr. Boleyn has a lunch meeting at the hotel next door. Is there something you need from Mr. Boleyn?" Ryder was surprised to see Scarlett, as he hadn't seen her come up in quite a while.
She shook her head. "Nothing really, I just came to see him."
"Why don't you wait here for Mr. Boleyn? He'll come back to the company when he's done."
Scarlett considered it; since she planned on resting anyway, it made no difference whether she stayed there or went downstairs.
Scarlett sat alone on the sofa, bored. She sent Ambrose a message, but he didn't reply, so she didn't send another one. Instead, she started chatting with Briar.
Scarlett: [What have you been up to lately? Haven't heard from you?]
Briar: [Just the usual mess. I heard from Quinlan that you almost had an incident at her bar entrance a few days ago. What happened?]
Scarlett then explained what happened.
Briar was so shocked she sent three "what"s in a row, followed by various shocked emojis.
Later, she called directly, and Scarlett answered.
Listening to Briar’s string of colorful expletives, they then got onto the topic of the children. Briar exclaimed that even movie scripts wouldn't dare write it this way.
Scarlett laughed. Yes, scripts wouldn't dare write it this way, but her experiences were even more dramatic than any script.
"Octavia is such a vicious woman. How can someone be so vicious? People like her should go to hell." Briar said.
"From now on, prison won't be any better than hell for her." Scarlett's tone was calm.
After letting off some steam about Octavia, Briar marveled at Scarlett and Ambrose's fate, summing it up in one phrase: Meant to be.
In the mysterious workings of fate, it really was meant to be.
"The first time I saw Hayden, I thought he looked a bit like you, and a lot like Yara. And when Ambrose was holding Yara, I felt like they had this father-daughter vibe. Turns out sometimes feelings are really accurate."
Scarlett never imagined that fate would bring them together amid the vast crowd.
"You've finally made it through the hard times. You have a pair of children and a boyfriend with status and position. It's heaven's special gift to you. No, wait, heaven forced it on you."
Scarlett also felt it was very strange. She and Ambrose really seemed to have a strong connection. No, it should be that Ambrose never forgot, which gave them a future.
A sense of enchantment seemed to permeate everything.
"Looks like the connection between you and Ambrose can't be broken. Even before the children came into the picture, he was clinging to you and wouldn't let go. Now it's even more impossible. You two also have two adorable children." Briar asked.
Scarlett leaned back against the sofa, her thoughts drifting. After a long while, she said, "Actually, even before I knew the children were mine, he already liked me. He's liked me since college."
"What? Ambrose has liked you since college? He told you that?" Briar's voice was skeptical, just like her initial reaction - hard to believe.
Scarlett smiled. "Mr. Evans secretly told me, but I've already confirmed it."
Briar sounded like she'd heard some major news, muttering to herself, all in disbelief.
Scarlett also sighed, "You know Ambrose had been known for a somewhat notorious reputation during their college years, so I didn't believe it at first either. But he knew everything about me, and after my dad went to prison, all the things he did for me in secret, that's when I knew it was true."
Briar couldn't believe it at all. Someone like Ambrose would actually have a secret crush on someone? This was a bit too absurd. But listening to Scarlett's words, it didn't sound like a lie.
Thinking about the past, Briar suddenly believed it. Otherwise, why would Ambrose help Scarlett for no reason, and still want to be with her despite her having children?
Unless he really did like Scarlett before, otherwise with his status and position, he couldn't possibly be so persistent with a divorced woman with children.
"You really can't judge a book by its cover. So you're his first woman, and he's your first man?"
Briar teased, "You two must have a connection from a past life! People with no connection, because of one night, became each other's first sexual partner. Isn't that fate?"
Scarlett laughed, "Meant to be!"
The two kept talking about this. After Scarlett and Briar ended their chat, Ambrose still hadn't returned. She was a bit tired, and it was lunch break, so she quickly fell asleep.
When Ambrose returned to the office, he saw Scarlett sleeping quietly on the sofa. His eyes, which had been full of hostility, instantly turned gentle.
He walked up to her, lowered his head to gaze at her sleeping face, peaceful and beautiful.
He bent down to pick her up, preparing to carry her to the rest room, when Scarlett opened her eyes.
"You're back?" Her voice carried the soft sweetness of just waking up.
