Chapter 53 Was she really about to be exposed here?!

Nathaniel was hot on her heels!

Celeste quickly left the cabin, hoping to make it back to the restroom to reassume her identity as Celeste.

However, chaos erupted when the boss was shot, causing a commotion on the ship with people scattering in every direction. She needed to avoid both Nathaniel and the others.

"Catch that woman!"

"She ran that way, chase her!"

Damn it.

Even the yacht's security guards joined the chase.

With Nathaniel relentlessly pursuing her from behind and the boss's men blocking her path ahead, some of whom were remnants of the Black Bear gang, she risked exposing her true identity as Scarlett if she confronted them.

Caught in a dilemma, Celeste was almost discovered.

In a moment of desperation, she flipped over the side of the ship.

Clinging on with her arms, her feet pressed against the yacht's exterior, she barely managed to hang there, concealed by the darkness of the night.

"Where is she?"

"The assassin is a woman, keep searching!"

Celeste listened as the chaotic footsteps passed by, soon followed by a familiar, steady set of footsteps.

"I mean no harm; I just want to talk," Nathaniel's hoarse voice echoed, his searching gaze sweeping through the darkness. He murmured, "Whatever your issue with the boss, it's none of my business. But there's something I need to clarify with you."

Celeste was puzzled. Nathaniel had been seeking information about his parent's death from the boss.

They had secretly conversed earlier that day and should have exchanged some information.

What did he want from Scarlett now?

"Looking for the woman with the mask? She ran outside."

Suddenly, a nearby voice chimed in.

Nathaniel, having found no one, heard the tip and immediately chased after the lead.

As Celeste heard his footsteps recede, she breathed a sigh of relief and quickly emerged from hiding.

She looked up to see a figure standing not far away.

Lean and aloof, his features shadowed, he resembled a wolf lying in wait, poised for a lethal strike.

"Why is Nathaniel looking for you? Do you have some beef with him?" the man asked casually as if he were merely an observer.

"It's none of your business."

"I helped you, and this is how you respond?" Arlo Duncan said, clearly annoyed. Assuming she also had a conflict with Nathaniel, he approached her directly.

Celeste was about to leave, but then she got a clear view of his face.

His hair was half-long and tied back, his eyes deep black and narrow, his nose high-bridged, and his face was both refined and ominously dark.

Why was it him?!

Arlo Duncan?

Celeste's pupils widened in shock, nearly letting his name slip out.

He was supposed to have left the Black Bear gang and started a new life by now.

"Thanks for today," Celeste whispered, her voice barely audible as she quickly moved away.

"Wait..." Arlo tried to stop her, but she had already disappeared into the night.

Celeste had never expected to bump into Arlo on the boss's yacht!

Hadn't he been supposed to fake his own death and vanish?

Whatever. She was in disguise and her facial scar was long gone—there was no way he'd recognize her.

Her immediate priority was to get back to the restroom before Nathaniel became suspicious, change out of her disguise, and revert to her usual self as Celeste.

But navigating through the crowded space was eating up her time.

By the time Celeste climbed through the window, Nathaniel had already gotten there first.

"Couldn't you have just gone in and called out?!" he snapped.

He was already on edge because he hadn't caught Scarlett, and finding out that Celeste had been in the restroom for over twenty minutes only made his mood worse.

"Sir, we're men, after all. The lady said not to disturb her, so we didn't enter…"

"Useless!" Nathaniel shot them a deadly look, his eyes as cold as the abyss. "She's unarmed. Imagine if an assassin had found her..."

He couldn't bear the thought and stormed into the restroom. "If something had happened to her, you'd have to answer to me!"

The two bodyguards looked at each other.

They had been with Nathaniel for years but rarely saw him lose his cool like this.

He truly saw his wife as his most precious treasure.

…

Nathaniel was furiously opening each door, looking for her.

The restroom was empty; it was only a matter of time before he found her.

Celeste quickly fixed her clothes and was just adjusting her skirt when she noticed a large tear in the fabric—a result of climbing over the railing, now marked with the yacht's fresh paint.

If Nathaniel saw this, all her secrets would be uncovered. He would immediately link her to the female assassin.

Knock knock. The sound was like a thunderclap.

"Celeste, are you in there?" Nathaniel's voice was deep and filled with concern as he stood outside the last stall. "Are you okay?"

Celeste stared at the door, her hands clenched.

She needed to think fast. The boss had been shot and her mission was still incomplete. What now?

Knock knock.

The knocking intensified, Nathaniel's voice becoming rough and urgent.

"Are you okay? I'm coming in." Concerned for Celeste's safety, he prepared to force the door open.

At the sound, Celeste went pale.

She wasn't even pregnant yet; was she really about to be exposed here?!
