Chapter 37 Speak up for him
Julia listened to her shouting on the phone with disgust. "Who are you yelling at like that?" she asked.
"You...Julia, you told us about Victoria after stealing Erica from us. You must have wanted us to offend someone. We see through your plan. Don't contact us again!" The person on the other end of the line hung up.
Julia's heart sank with anger.
Who did she offend?
Anyway, it seemed like they really went to find Victoria after she told them about her. She wondered how it turned out for those two idiots. They might have caused trouble for Victoria.
She needed to find a chance to go and see for herself.
Victoria was dressed and ready. She got into the car with Brandon and they went to the Duncan Family mansion. As they got out of the car, they heard Lisa's sarcastic voice.
"Look who's here. It's our dear Duncan heir and his new wife."
Victoria remembered what Lisa had said to her in the villa.
She was Brandon's stepmother, and she didn't want Brandon to be happy.
"Oh, this must be Brandon's wife. You two got married in a hurry, and we didn't have a chance to meet. Come in and let us have a look," Lisa said in a fake friendly tone.
A woman full of enthusiasm came up from behind her.
"Auntie," Brandon ignored Lisa and introduced Victoria to Catherine.
Lisa was seething behind them, her face turning purple with anger. Victoria quickly called out, "Auntie." Immediately, a man stepped forward from behind them. "Brandon, it seems you've recovered quite well," he said. Brandon's eyebrows furrowed slightly as he looked at him with a cold, almost mocking expression. "Uncle doesn't want me to recover well?" "Of course not, but I think now that you've recovered and have a wife, it's a good opportunity to have a child. In case something like this happens again, you need an heir, don't you?" Victoria's heart skipped a beat as she unconsciously touched her stomach. They were pressuring them to have a child. But Brandon... "That won't be necessary. I've learned my lesson from the accident. Nobody will be able to touch me again." Fernando smiled at Victoria. "Now that you've married, why not have a child? You don't have much work to do, just the Bay project, which may or may not succeed. You have plenty of free time to have a child, don't you, niece?" Victoria was taken aback. Why was he singling her out like this? His expression made her feel like he was being sarcastic. It seemed like he had ill intentions towards Brandon. "Uncle, are you complaining that I've been resting for too long? Don't worry, I'll be back to work soon. I've already taken care of everything, so you won't be busy for long. You'll have plenty of time to enjoy your retirement with Auntie." Fernando's expression froze for a moment, then he burst out laughing. "Whether you're busy or not, you still need to have a child. You've been lying in bed for a year now. People are starting to talk. You're married now, but you still haven't had a child. What are people supposed to think?"
He smiled and stared at Victoria, "Look at how pretty my niece-in-law is. Even if you really can't conceive, you should tell the family. We're from a good family, we can always borrow someone's seed to continue the family business. It's better than letting outsiders speculate."
What? Victoria's face froze. What was he implying? Can he just say something like borrowing someone's seed?
She said, "Who said he can't have children? He's perfectly healthy. I think it's the people who speculate about his health that are suspicious. Who would care if someone else has a child or not? Those who keep bringing it up might be related to the previous accident. Uncle, why don't you tell us where you heard the rumors? We can find out who's causing trouble and if we find the culprit, you'll be a hero."
Fernando's face turned dark.
What did she mean? Was she implying that whoever was speculating about Brandon's health was the culprit of the previous accident?
She even asked Fernando to find out who was spreading the rumors. If he found out, he would be the one who said it. Victoria must have known, but she said it on purpose.
Seeing Fernando's frustrated expression, Catherine quickly spoke up, "Oh, never mind what others say. If Brandon's wife says he's healthy, then he must be healthy." She looked meaningfully at Victoria.
Victoria blushed and realized what she had just said. Brandon's eyes flickered and he looked deeply at Victoria before turning away.
Victoria was at a loss and blushed.
Catherine laughed, "You've been married for so long, and you're still shy. Alright, I won't tease you anymore. Let's go see your grandmother."
After meeting Old Madam Duncan, the atmosphere improved significantly. They had a meal together and then left. Brandon glanced at the woman beside him. Sensing his gaze, Victoria quickly adjusted her hair to hide her embarrassment. "What are you looking at?" she asked. "I don't know, my body is so good," he replied with a teasing tone. Victoria's face turned red again. "I didn't mean it that way. It's just that he was speaking so rudely, I couldn't help but argue back..." Brandon looked at her. "Your sharp tongue is finally being put to use, but why are you defending me?" Victoria blinked. "In the Duncan Family, we are one. When you are criticized, it's like I'm being criticized. I know our marriage is just for show, but for now, we should stand together. It's only right for me to help you." Her words were reasonable, but Brandon's eyes were inscrutable, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking. Victoria noticed that he seemed to be in a good mood today and asked, "But your family is urging you to have a child. Have you ever considered having one?" Brandon snapped out of his thoughts and raised an eyebrow. "Why are you suddenly asking this?" Victoria hesitated. Did she still hope that he would stay for the unborn life inside her? Feeling his probing gaze, she quickly waved her hand. "It's nothing, I was just curious."
However, Brandon suddenly turned cold and said, "Victoria, what are you thinking? Are you trying to imply something to me?"
