Chapter 89
"What's the rush?" Jason got into the driver's seat and leaned toward me.
My whole body tensed up. I stared at him wide-eyed and warned in a low voice, "There are people around. I'm warning you, don't try anything!"
The seatbelt beside me clicked into place.
Jason looked at me and said, "If you're that eager, I'll let you kiss me all you want when we get home."
I took a deep breath, gritting my teeth.
Jason's laughter rang out along with the roar of the engine starting up.
The sports car accelerated instantly, shooting out of everyone's sight.
Sitting in the passenger seat, I finally let out a slow breath of relief.
I turned my head to look at Jason, who was focused on driving, and couldn't help saying, "Can you please not do this again? Making a scene like that downstairs at the company makes things really awkward for me."
"What did I do?" Jason didn't think there was any problem at all. Instead, he answered matter-of-factly, "If pursuing my wife is wrong, then I'd rather be wrong again and again."
I took several deep breaths to gradually calm myself down.
I said, "Next time, don't get so many flowers."
"If you don't like flowers, I'll send something else next time. I'll just throw these flowers away." Jason had clearly misunderstood what I meant.
I explained, "Jason, you're the CEO of Glacier Corp. Your public image is cool and aloof. Don't you want to maintain that image?"
"No." Jason denied it without hesitation.
Taking advantage of the red light, he turned to look at me, his eyes deep, and said, "Whatever you like, I'll become that."
He paused, then added with a hurt tone, "I just want you."
My face felt a bit hot.
Hearing him say this now, my heart was racing uncontrollably.
While we were talking, we arrived at the restaurant.
It was an upscale restaurant.
As soon as we sat down, several musicians with instruments walked over to us.
Under my confused gaze, they began playing for us.
I looked at Jason with mixed feelings. "You arranged this?"
"Do you like it?" Jason asked me very seriously.
The musicians were putting in great effort and were also waiting for my answer.
I silently looked away without saying more.
As soon as the steak was served, Jason took my plate and carefully cut the steak into bite-sized pieces before placing it back in front of me.
Watching how skilled he was at this, I felt a bit dazed.
There wasn't much time at lunch.
After lunch, Jason immediately drove me back to the company.
I had wanted to refuse, but I couldn't win against his insistence.
On the way back, Jason said, "I'll pick you up after work, and we'll go back to the old mansion for dinner together. Grandma Cooper asks about you every day."
I turned to look out the window, my tone flat. "You can just take Jessica. I won't go."
"Of course, you have to go. Ever since my dad saw the news online, he's been saying he wants to meet you. Tonight is perfect." Jason said matter-of-factly.
I took a deep breath to calm myself down and said seriously, "This is your family dinner. I'm just an outsider. What capacity would I go in? As your ex-girlfriend? It would be awkward for me to go."
"You're Jessica's mother. Today is Jessica's first time formally meeting the family, so of course, you should come too. Are you really comfortable letting Jessica be at Cooper Old Mansion alone?"
Before I could speak, Jason added, "Grandma was so happy to hear you were coming that she already told the chef to prepare your favorite dishes. If you suddenly say you're not going now, she'll definitely be very sad. You don't want to upset Grandma, do you?"
The image of Grandma Cooper's kind and gentle face flashed through my mind.
I hesitated.
"Sue, please come back with me tonight. If you really won't, I'll have to get on my knees and beg you." Jason suddenly started acting cute.
I looked at him in shock.
I curved my lips, looking at him with a half-smile. "Okay then, when we get to the company, get on your knees and beg me, and I'll agree."
Jason looked at me deeply without saying anything.
He wouldn't really do that, would he?
The car stopped downstairs at DT Corp. As soon as I got out, Jason left me with "I'll pick you up tonight" and drove off.
Watching the sports car speed away, I smiled and shook my head.
It was time to get out of work.
I had just come downstairs when I ran into Terry, who was all smiles.
"Mr. Terry Ethan." I greeted him respectfully.
Terry, who was usually stern at the company, was now smiling especially warmly.
He nodded at me and said gently, "Ms. Wilson, you work very hard, but outside of work, you should also focus on taking care of your personal life. Mr. Cooper is already waiting for you. Go on."
I nodded and said goodbye to Terry before getting in the car.
We hadn't driven far when my eyes fell on a supermarket not far ahead.
"Stop at the supermarket up ahead."
"You don't need to buy anything. They have everything at home. They'll be happy just having you there," Jason said.
I shook my head and insisted, "It's not the same. Either way, I should bring a gift. I'll just buy some fruit."
Going to Cooper Old Mansion today, I represented Jessica's biological mother.
At the very least, I couldn't let the Cooper family think I was rude.
Jason finally listened to me and parked the car by the roadside.
I specially picked out some fruits that were easy for elderly people to eat and had the clerk arrange them in a large fruit basket.
By the time we arrived at Cooper Old Mansion, Jessica had already been brought over.
She was currently being held by a middle-aged man whose face looked somewhat familiar. The man had a gentle smile on his face and was saying something to Jessica that made her laugh.
"Sister, hello! I've been looking forward to meeting you, and we finally get to meet! Let me introduce myself - I'm Kelly!"
A girl enthusiastically came up to me, took my hand with a bright smile, and spoke.
I had no resistance to such friendliness and smiled back. "Hello, I'm Sue."
Then I thought about it and added, "But Mr. Cooper and I aren't together, so calling me sister might not be appropriate."
