Chapter 76
"Go ahead," Jason said without looking up.
"Could you please look after Jessica today?"
I intended to have Jessica spend the whole day playing with Jason.
This was something I decided on the spur of the moment this morning after seeing how happy Jessica was.
Jessica liked and longed for her father even more than I had imagined.
Jason looked up, his eyes narrowing as he studied me, his tone carrying a hint of danger. "It's your day off, do you have a date?"
I looked at him in surprise, not quite understanding how his mind made that leap.
But I needed to come up with a reason. otherwise, how could I naturally send Jessica to Jason's side?
"I just have some things to take care of."
Worried he wouldn't agree, I added, "Just help me watch her for one day, it won't take up much of your time."
Jessica blinked at me.
As if understanding what I meant, she immediately tugged gently at Jason's sleeve. "I want to play with you today."
Jason patted Jessica's head. "Wait a moment. I need to ask about something first, then I'll play with you, okay?"
After saying this, he looked up at me and asked, "You're really not going on a date?"
"No!"
Why was it so hard to get him to take Jessica out to play for a while?
Jason nodded slightly, though I couldn't tell if he actually believed me.
After breakfast, Jason followed me to the kitchen.
He leaned against the refrigerator, arms crossed, watching me. "If I take Jessica out to play today, then you accept the money I transferred to you yesterday."
"I don't want it." I refused without hesitation.
"Why not? This is compensation for you, it's what you deserve." Jason frowned in confusion, staring at me, puzzled.
Compensation?
I turned around, speechless, to look at Jason. "That car only cost me twenty thousand dollars when I bought it, and you're telling me the compensation is two hundred thousand? Either the car dealer is an idiot willing to make such a losing deal, or I'm an idiot who would believe your nonsense."
I was almost certain in my heart that these two hundred thousand must have come from Jason's own pocket.
But Jason raised an eyebrow and said, "Glacier Corp's legal team - I believe you should know about them."
Glacier Corp's legal team was famous throughout all of Seaside City.
No matter what the lawsuit, as long as they took it on, they had never lost.
Using such a legal team just to get compensation for her twenty-thousand-dollar car?
The lawyer fees alone probably wouldn't be enough!
I grumbled internally.
Sometimes I really couldn't understand what Jason was thinking.
Seeing my silence, Jason simply stepped forward and reached out his hand.
"What are you doing?" I looked at him warily.
Jason turned his wrist and went straight for my pocket.
The next moment, my phone was easily in his hand.
Jason skillfully opened our chat window and directly accepted the transfer.
"There, that's settled. If you don't accept the money, I'll have the legal team keep going after the car dealer."
Jason's words sounded completely matter-of-fact.
My lips moved, but I couldn't manage to say anything else.
Looking at the sudden two hundred thousand dollars in my Facebook wallet, I was completely dazed.
Working hard day and night all these years, scrimping and saving, working like crazy, my savings had never reached two hundred thousand dollars!
My brain had a kind of blissful feeling of being knocked dizzy by this sudden windfall.
Jason left with Jessica. It wasn't until I heard the door close that I gradually came back to my senses.
Actually, I didn't have anything to do today.
After simply finishing the housework, I sat on the sofa watching TV.
On a day off, this kind of leisure time was undoubtedly the most pleasant.
The door was suddenly knocked on, and only then did I realize it was already lunchtime.
But had Jason brought Jessica back so soon?
Full of confusion, I went to open the door.
"Sue! I'm here to mooch a meal! Quick, quick, quick, let me see what delicious food there is today?"
Lily excitedly poked her head in, then was surprised to find I hadn't cooked, and cried out.
"Sue, you didn't cook today?"
"Yeah, Jason took Jessica out to play, so I was too lazy to cook just for myself at home."
I explained with a smile, teasing her, "Poor you, though, no food to eat."
Lily waved her hand and said, "That's no big deal."
She seemed to suddenly think of something and said, "Since you didn't cook, let's go out to eat together."
"Sure, what do you want to eat?" I asked.
"We had hot pot last time, how about barbecue this time?" Lily suggested.
We really hadn't had barbecue in a long time, and suddenly mentioning it made me crave it.
"Let's do it then. I'll go change, and we can head out."
Lily picked a barbecue place in the center of the mall.
While we were eating, I told her about the two hundred thousand.
After listening, Lily not only widened her eyes but sincerely exclaimed, "I guess this is the world of rich people - two hundred thousand given just like that, it's too extravagant!"
I nodded in complete agreement. "They always give me the feeling that making money is easy, but making money is really hard."
Otherwise, I wouldn't have lived so hard with Jessica.
Lily patted my shoulder and said, "What I told you before, you should really think about it more."
I knew she was talking about marrying Jason.
Forget everything else - just marrying Jason, never mind one two hundred thousand, ten or a hundred would be nothing.
I nodded and opened my mouth evasively, "Let's talk about that later, no rush."
After eating, since we were at the mall anyway, I said to Lily, "Jessica's grown taller recently, might as well buy her some new clothes."
Lily had no objection. "Let's go."
Having an extra two hundred thousand in my pocket made my steps feel much lighter.
Lily and I browsed the children's clothing section for a long time.
When I saw things suitable for Jessica, or things Jessica would like, I didn't hesitate much and chose to buy them all.
Now that I had money, the first thing was, of course, to give my child a better life.
Lily stood to the side, laughing at me. "You're always so stingy with yourself - I've never seen you buy clothes for yourself this generously."
I shook my head. "It's different. When you have a child someday, you'll understand."
Thinking of Jessica, the smile on my face couldn't help but soften.
Seeing me like this, Lily just kept shaking her head. "Forget it! I'm used to being free and unrestrained. If I suddenly had a child, I'd be very uncomfortable."
She raised her hand to toss her smooth, glossy hair and said, "I earn my own money and spend it on myself. I like spending money on myself."
I nodded gently, not finding anything wrong with that.
Everyone has different views on life.
Lily respected that I had Jessica before marriage, and I equally respected Lily's thoughts.
After putting all the shopping bags in the car, Lily offered to drive while I sat in the passenger seat.
Seeing the scenery outside the window looked somewhat unfamiliar, I realized this wasn't the way home.
"Lily, where are we going?"
"Since you don't have anything to do today, I'm taking you to a good place."
