Chapter 60
Lily's eyes widened, blazing with anger. "Is something wrong with his brain? He hasn't even dealt with the women around him, so why is he bothering you?!"
I didn't know either. But I didn't want to know.
We should have been over a long time ago. That's how it should be.
"I'm so furious! When you first told me Jason kept pestering you, I thought he wanted to get back together with you. Now I see that's not it at all!"
After cursing Jason for a while longer, Lily finally looked at me carefully and asked, "So what are you going to do now? You need to let him go."
My eyelashes trembled slightly, and my hands resting on my lap unconsciously tightened.
Let go? Of course, I wanted to let go, if I could.
But most of the time, what the heart wants isn't decided by the brain.
Lily saw my struggle and sighed helplessly. She patted my shoulder and said, "Don't look so worried. Actually, after some time passes, you'll realize he's just a man, nothing worth caring about."
Pointing to herself, she said with a grin, "Look at me now. Ever since I found my new boyfriend, I don't think about that jerk at all. If I do think anything, it's definitely wishing he'd just drop dead right where he stands!"
I nodded admiringly and said, "You're really amazing."
Once she decided in her heart to let go, she could actually do it.
Amazing, and decisive enough.
I wish I could do the same.
"I think you can't let go only because you don't have better options around you, so you keep living in past memories. That won't do. Let me find you a couple of young guys, maybe that'll help you move on!" As she spoke, she was already reaching for her phone to make contacts.
I quickly stopped her, saying, "Wait! Jessica still needs to get in the car. Don't do this stuff in front of her."
Lily thought about it and agreed, putting down her phone and looking at me with emotion. "Look at you now, you have to think about Jessica first before doing anything."
I shook my head gently, my voice free of distress, only happiness. "Actually, I think this is pretty good."
Jessica was the most important person in my life, the hope that kept me going.
When I gave birth to Jessica, at my weakest and most helpless moment, even though I knew it was impossible, I couldn't help thinking about my mother.
That woman who had never shown me a kind face since childhood.
I knew she wouldn't come see me, but I still couldn't help hoping.
Later, after leaving the hospital, holding Jessica, I secretly vowed that I would never become that kind of mother.
My Jessica must have the best mother's love in the world.
After dinner, Lily drove us home.
I let Jessica go take a bath by herself, while Lily sat beside me and asked in a low voice, "What about Jessica's identity? Are you still going to tell Jason?"
I pressed my lips together without answering immediately.
Lily saw my hesitation and asked, "Because of that, Victoria?"
I nodded slightly.
If Victoria really was Jason's girlfriend, she might not accept Jessica's existence.
Recalling Victoria's arrogant manner, my heart felt heavy.
Victoria wasn't easy to get along with. If she found out Jessica was Jason's biological daughter, who knows what she might do.
Lily patted my shoulder gently and said, "It's okay, you don't need to rush this kind of thing. Since you haven't figured it out yet, just wait and see."
Lily didn't stay long before leaving.
Not long after she left, Jason sent a message: [My business trip is over, coming back tomorrow.]
I only glanced at it and didn't reply.
The next day, Brian and I were at a hotel having dinner with suppliers.
Today's meeting was quite important.
If both sides could reach an agreement, we could save a lot of cost on this batch of raw materials.
So both Brian and I took it quite seriously.
Seeing the dinner was almost over, I made up an excuse to get up, planning to go to the front desk to pay the bill first.
Just as I opened the private room door, a figure rushed over.
Her face was twisted with rage as she threw a glass of ice water right at my face!
"Sue, you shameless woman! Not focused on work, just thinking about how to seduce men!"
I wiped the water off my face before I could clearly see who it was.
I was certain I'd never seen this person before. Why was she cursing at me right away?
Brian reacted faster than me, rushing forward to separate the woman from me.
His brows furrowed tightly as he demanded coldly, "Elizabeth, you've gone too far!"
Elizabeth Perez?
I immediately realized that the extremely angry woman in front of me was the Elizabeth who had gone on a blind date with Brian?
But hadn't Brian said Elizabeth wasn't interested in him?
Confusion and surprise churned in my heart.
Before I could ask, Elizabeth was already staring at me intently, her voice full of resentment. "Sue, aren't you shameless? Using the title of assistant while doing the work of seducing people. If it weren't for you, why would Brian reject me?"
"Elizabeth! I told you from the start, this is between the two of us and has nothing to do with Ms. Wilson. If you keep making a scene, get out!" Brian's face looked frighteningly grim.
Elizabeth was startled by him and instinctively shrank back, but then she became self-righteous again. "How am I talking nonsense? Didn't you say yourself that you already have someone you like?"
She said through gritted teeth, "I investigated after I went back. Right now you only have her, one woman, around you. It must be her seducing you that made you unwilling to accept me!"
As she spoke, Elizabeth's eyes gradually reddened, and tears kept flowing out. "I don't understand, how am I inferior to her? I'm Miss Perez! How could I be worse than a mere assistant?!"
I kept my head down and said nothing.
Right now I could confirm two things.
First, Brian had lied to me. He said Elizabeth wasn't interested in him during the blind date.
Second, Elizabeth saw me as a rival in love.
Now wasn't the time for me to speak.
Looking at Elizabeth's current state, if I spoke up on my own, it would probably make her even angrier.
"It has nothing to do with Ms. Wilson. I simply don't like you." Brian's brows were tightly furrowed, his expression colder than I'd ever seen.
He stared at Elizabeth with disgust and said, "Now, apologize to Ms. Wilson immediately!"
Elizabeth's eyes widened in disbelief as she asked, "You want me to apologize to her?!"
I opened my mouth, about to say it wasn't necessary, but Elizabeth spoke first. "I won't! I'll remember you! You just wait!"
After throwing out those words, Elizabeth grabbed her bag and left aggressively in her high heels.
Seeing the drama was over, the suppliers didn't dare stay and left directly.
Brian looked at me with my clothes half-soaked, his brows slightly furrowed, and took off his jacket to drape it over my shoulders.
"No need, Mr. Ethan, I'm fine." I reached to take off the jacket, but Brian held my hand down.
