Chapter 308
Chapter 308
Maya's voice grew more pained, and tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Her whole body trembled, her face deathly pale.
"What am I supposed to do... if you marry Sue, then what about me... My life is already like this. I had my future all planned out, and now you're telling me my future isn't going to be like that?"
I looked at her calmly, saying nothing.
This had nothing to do with me.
This was between Maya and Jason.
Besides, I couldn't really understand why Maya would anchor her entire future on a man.
From the first moment I saw Maya, I could tell she was an extremely accomplished woman.
Whether in terms of presence or education, she was top-tier in all of Seaside City.
Someone like that would be incredibly successful even without a partner.
I didn't understand why she was so fixated on a man like Jason.
"What you're supposed to do isn't something I need to think about. I don't need to be responsible for your life."
Jason's tone was flat as he looked coldly at Maya, who was nearly breaking down.
Maya froze in place, staring blankly at Jason. The light in her eyes gradually dimmed and shattered.
"But..."
She wanted to say more, but Jason frowned and cut her off:
"There's no 'but.' Your life shouldn't be my responsibility."
Maya protested unwillingly: "Then what am I supposed to do? The marriage between the Coleman family and Cooper family was supposed to be a done deal. This union would benefit both families greatly!"
Jason raised an eyebrow:
"Glacier Corp doesn't need to rely on marriage alliances for benefits. I can pursue my own happiness in marriage."
Maya seemed choked up. She opened her mouth and said stiffly:
"But I need it. You know my family situation. I have several half-siblings, I..."
She wanted to say she needed Jason.
But the words stuck in her throat.
She had her pride too. Getting to this point was already her limit.
"Under normal circumstances, Coleman Corporation would be an excellent partner."
Jason spoke unhurriedly: "Even without the engagement, Glacier Corp would list it as a quality partner and work together."
His words made Maya's eyes light up.
But the next second, Jason's words sent Maya plummeting into an icy abyss.
"But that's under normal circumstances. Now it's impossible."
"Why?"
Maya cried out.
Jason tightened his arm around me, his tone still cold: "Don't you know what you did to my wife? And you're still asking me why?"
I looked at Jason with some surprise.
I knew Jason was protective, but I didn't expect him to be so blunt about it in front of Maya.
I felt warm inside.
Maya's face turned deathly pale.
She shook her head in dismay, looking at Jason with pleading eyes:
"I know I was wrong before, but I'm doing my best to make up for it now. If you don't believe me, look at this document. All the terms favor Sue!"
"Doesn't this show my sincerity?"
Faced with her pleading, Jason remained unmoved.
His tone was cold and measured: "Whatever Coleman Corporation can offer, Glacier Corp can offer too. You know exactly why you came here today."
Without saying more, everyone present knew the contract definitely wouldn't be signed today.
Maya left, her face pale and her spirit crushed.
I pulled Jason back to my office.
After closing the door, I finally spoke:
"What did you do to Coleman Corporation? Why is Maya suddenly so desperate?"
Jason sat in my office chair and reached out his hand toward me.
I stood still: "No."
We were still at the company. What would it look like if we were all over each other?
Jason raised an eyebrow: "If you don't come, I won't tell."
After some hesitation, curiosity won out.
I shuffled over reluctantly and sat on Jason's lap: "Can you tell me now?"
Jason tilted his face up slightly, his meaning obvious.
I leaned down and kissed his cheek.
Jason pursed his lips.
I gritted my teeth: "Don't push your luck!"
Seeing I was about to get angry, Jason finally backed down and said calmly:
"Actually, I didn't do much. I just snatched a few projects from Coleman Corporation. The Coleman family situation is complicated. Kinsley really does only have Maya as a child because she had an accident years ago that damaged her uterus, so she can't have a second child."
"But Maya's father has traditional views and always wanted a son. His own wife couldn't have more children, but there were plenty of women outside who could and wanted to."
I blinked: "Is that the half-siblings Maya just mentioned?"
Jason nodded and took the opportunity to kiss my cheek: "You're so smart! With cheating, once it happens, it happens countless times. So Maya ended up with many half-brothers and sisters. Now Mr. Coleman's health isn't good, and he's been in the hospital for a long time. Maya is anxious about the inheritance, which is why she came back to take over the company."
I continued following his train of thought:
"Originally, given the relationship between the Coleman family and Cooper family, a business marriage between you two was a done deal. With the Cooper family's support, Maya would have had more of an advantage in fighting for the inheritance. But she didn't expect that when she came back, she'd find out we were already married?"
Jason's arms around me tightened.
"Even if we weren't married, I would never consider a business marriage with her."
"I decided six years ago that you would be my only wife in this lifetime."
After Maya left my company, she walked with difficulty back to Coleman Corporation.
As soon as she reached the CEO's office, she saw an unwelcome visitor inside.
"What are you doing here? Get out."
Maya frowned, her eyes instantly turning cold.
The visitor sat casually in the office chair with his legs propped up on the desk, arms crossed, looking at Maya with a half-smile:
"I'm here to check on you, of course. After all, in a way, you're my sister, right?"
"Who's your sister? Some bastard from outside thinks he can claim connection to the Coleman family?"
Maya scolded coldly: "Where is everyone!"
Atticus Coleman whistled: "Don't bother calling. I've already sent your assistant away. No one will come no matter who you call."
He put his legs down and sat up somewhat properly:
"I forgot to tell you earlier—Dad says I have great business talent, so he's having me work at the company. Give me a position, preferably one where I can directly access the company's core operations and have decision-making power."
Maya stared coldly at Atticus, finding it all ridiculous.
She had investigated all of Elijah Coleman's illegitimate children, and Atticus was one of the best at winning his favor.
He was skilled at eating, drinking, and playing around—a notorious playboy in Seaside City.
How could someone like that have any management talent?
Beyond the absurdity, Maya felt waves of sadness.
She had worked so hard her entire life, and in Elijah's eyes, she still couldn't compare to Atticus?
