Chapter 307

Chapter 307

Maya?

What's she doing coming to see me?

Don't tell me her behind-the-scenes tricks didn't work, so now she's planning to come provoke me directly?

"Got it, have her wait in the reception room."

I hung up the phone and looked up to meet Lily's worried eyes:

"Maya? She's not here to cause trouble for you, is she? Why won't this woman leave you alone? After causing such a huge mess before, she still won't give up?"

I shrugged. "Who knows? Let's go see what this is about."

"I'll come with you."

"No need, just go do your shoot as normal. I can handle this myself."

I waved my hand and left the office first.

I didn't go straight to the reception room. Instead, I sent Jason a message first.

[Maya's at my company.]

I put away my phone and headed to the reception room.

As soon as I walked in, I saw Maya's face clearly showing some anxiety.

The moment she saw me, she immediately hid her agitation and returned to her usual elegant and graceful manner.

"Ms. Wilson, long time no see."

"Let's skip the pleasantries, Ms. Coleman. I don't think we have any old times to catch up on."

I waved my hand and sat down across from Maya, looking at her calmly:

"What brings Ms. Coleman to see me today? Why don't you just get straight to the point."

Maya pressed her lips together slightly, hesitated for a moment, then pulled out a document from her bag and placed it in front of me.

"What's this supposed to mean?"

I glanced down at it but didn't touch it.

A slight smile appeared on Maya's perfectly made-up face as she said softly:

"Ms. Wilson's company is just starting out. I imagine this is exactly when you need partnerships. Coleman Media Group has already achieved quite a bit in the short drama sector. Working with us would definitely be the right choice for Ms. Wilson."

"Ms. Wilson can take a look. In terms of profit sharing, Coleman Media Group won't let you lose out."

Hearing this, I finally leisurely opened the contract.

The contract clearly stated the profit split: eighty percent for me, twenty percent for her.

"What does Ms. Coleman mean by this? A gesture of goodwill? Or an apology?"

I looked at Maya with a half-smile.

The person who had been aggressively targeting me before was now suddenly trying to please me. To say there's no reason behind this—even a three-year-old wouldn't believe that.

Maya's expression changed slightly. She straightened her back, still maintaining her dignity:

"Ms. Wilson, some things don't really need to be spelled out so clearly, don't you think?"

Her attitude made it clear that she was unwilling inside but had to come make peace with me because of pressure from the Cooper family.

But an apology should come with the right attitude, shouldn't it?

What does she mean by "don't need to spell it out"?

My eyes grew colder inch by inch as I sneered:

"Ms. Coleman, here you should either call me President Wilson or Mrs. Cooper. What kind of title is 'Ms. Wilson'? Don't tell me you still want to marry Jason even now?"

Complex emotions flashed through Maya's eyes, her tone somewhat unwilling:

"I didn't mean that. It's just a very ordinary form of address. You don't need to be so sensitive."

"I want you to change how you address me."

I casually tossed the document on the table and crossed my arms, leaning back in my chair. "Otherwise we have nothing to discuss."

The two of us locked eyes as the reception room fell into dead silence.

I silently counted down from ten in my mind.

When I reached one, I stood up. "I'm not someone who likes to force people. Since Ms. Coleman is unwilling, let's just forget it."

"Wait!"

Maya quickly called out to me.

Her expression changed several times before she finally squeezed out through gritted teeth: "President Wilson."

I raised my eyebrows, smiled, and sat back down.

"That's more like it. What did you want to discuss with me?"

"I've already shown you the contract. I think this shows quite a bit of sincerity. What do you think?"

Maya was clearly unhappy with my feigned ignorance, her delicate brows furrowing slightly.

I raised my eyebrows and said lazily: "Oh, you mean this? I'm really sorry, but my company is small and probably can't work with Coleman Media Group."

"Ms. Wilson, don't be too greedy. People who are too greedy don't get good results."

Maya warned me in a low voice.

I smiled silently:

"Am I being greedy, or do you have ulterior motives? I don't think we're on good enough terms for you to suddenly offer such a great partnership. What's this really about?"

Maya's expression changed again and again before she finally spoke awkwardly:

"What happened before was my fault. It caused you quite a bit of harm and trouble."

"This partnership is an apology. I hope you can give me some face."

I shook my head. "You shouldn't be coming to me about this."

Maya got a bit anxious. "If I don't come to you, who else can I go to? Glacier Corp suddenly started targeting the Coleman family. That piece of land downtown—we practically had it in the bag, but then Glacier Corp suddenly swooped in and took it!"

"I'm not the one who took it. Go find Jason."

I pursed my lips.

When she was scheming against me, she thought I was easy to deal with. Now that she's in trouble, she thinks I'm easy to fool, is that it?

Coleman Media Group partnering with my company—from the contract's surface, it did look like I was getting the better deal. But as long as she partnered with me, Jason wouldn't go after Coleman Media Group.

Maya really had a good plan!

"If going to him would work, would I be here looking for you?"

Maya raised her voice.

As soon as the words left her mouth, she immediately covered her mouth.

I looked at her with a half-smile. "So you've already tried? What happened? Did your childhood friendship not help you out?"

Maya suddenly stood up, glaring at me viciously.

"Yes! I couldn't even see Jason's face. Are you satisfied now? Are you happy?"

I nodded. "Pretty much."

Maya's eyes gradually reddened, her tone full of unwillingness and even a hint of grievance:

"I just don't understand—what's so good about you? Why would he choose you? We're the childhood friends. We should be the perfect match. We grew up together, our families are equally matched. If I hadn't gone abroad..."

"Even if you hadn't gone abroad, the person I love still wouldn't be you."

A cold, hard voice suddenly cut in as Jason strode into the reception room with a cold expression.

He didn't look at Maya but first carefully checked me over to make sure I was okay, then turned his icy gaze on Maya.

"Looks like Glacier Corp's lesson to the Coleman family wasn't enough. Who told you to come find my wife?"

Maya's tears finally spilled over.

She looked at Jason pitifully, choking up:

"You won't see me—what choice do I have? Jason, I don't believe you don't know my situation in the Coleman family. You're deliberately trying to push me to a dead end!"

"What did I do wrong that you'd treat me this way? Don't all these years of friendship mean anything to you? Why are you doing this?"

Jason put his arm around me, his gaze cold and distant. "Of course they mean nothing. Don't think too highly of yourself. From beginning to end, I've never liked you."

"But I like you!"

Maya broke down shouting. She grabbed her hair forcefully:

"Since I was little, my family told me I'd be your wife someday. I always believed that too. Now you're telling me it's not true—what am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to think about this?"
