Chapter 212

Chapter 212

"Hello, is this Ms. Wilson?"

"Yes, may I ask who's calling?"

The voice on the other end sounded unfamiliar—it wasn't Tyler.

"Hello Ms. Wilson, this is the HR department at Polaris Company. We received your resume and would like you to come in for an interview tomorrow morning at 9:30 sharp."

Hearing these words, I almost thought I was hallucinating for a moment.

An interview?

An interview!

I finally got an interview notice from a new company!

"Ms. Wilson, can you hear me?"

The person asked.

I snapped back to reality and quickly responded, "Yes, yes, I hear you. Thank you so much. I'll be there on time tomorrow morning!"

After hanging up, I finally let myself get excited and cheered out loud!

This is great!

After going so long without a job, I was starting to wonder if I'd been completely eliminated from the workforce.

Once my emotions calmed down, I started searching online for information about Polaris Company.

I need to be well prepared for tomorrow's interview!

That evening, Jason had already finished his shower and had come out of the bathroom, while I was still holding my iPad, learning about Polaris Company.

Maybe I was too focused, because Jason raised an eyebrow and walked over to me.

His eyes scanned the information on my iPad, "Polaris Company?"

I looked up at the sound of his voice and smiled in response.

"Yeah, the HR department at Polaris Company called me to come in for an interview tomorrow. I need to learn about the company beforehand."

Jason's hand, which had been drying his hair, stopped. He thought for a moment, then frowned and said, "I've never heard of this company before. It's probably really small. Maybe you shouldn't go—what if you run into danger?"

The bigger companies, once they heard Jason's name, didn't want to hire me anymore.

I couldn't help but grumble internally.

But I couldn't say this to Jason's face.

If he heard it, he'd definitely get all smug about it.

Seeing me stay silent, Jason sat down beside me and put his arm around me.

"Honey, it's not that I don't want you to work. I'm just worried that these small companies have lots of work but low pay. I don't want you to work too hard."

As he spoke, he gently placed a tender kiss on my cheek.

But I shook my head, still insisting, "It's okay, I'm not afraid of hard work. I want to go."

Now that I finally have a company asking me to interview, I can't just pass it up.

It doesn't matter if the company is small or not—I just want to have a job.

That would give me peace of mind.

Jason looked at me seriously, and seeing that I was determined, he nodded.

"Okay, as long as it's what you want, I'll support you."

The next morning, I arrived at Polaris Company on time for the interview.

Just as Jason had said, this company was indeed very small.

It was inside an office building.

Unlike DT Corp where I used to work, which owned an entire office building, this building housed many small companies.

Polaris Company was one of them.

I followed the HR person who came downstairs up to the office.

"Ms. Wilson, here we are. Please go in—the boss is waiting for you inside."

The HR person said to me.

I nodded slightly, knocked on the door, and after hearing someone respond from inside, I went in.

I looked up and saw a capable-looking woman sitting in the boss's chair.

I'd already looked up information about Polaris Company and knew the boss was a woman.

This was actually one of the important reasons I chose to interview here.

"Hello, boss."

I stood in front of her, smiling.

The woman narrowed her eyes slightly and looked me up and down.

I didn't show any nervousness, standing straight and letting her examine me.

I was applying for a secretary position, which was my old line of work.

This was the first step.

The woman asked me, "You were a secretary at DT Corp before?"

I nodded, "Yes."

"DT Corp has excellent benefits. Why did you leave?"

"Personal reasons."

I didn't explain further.

After all, I didn't plan to tell this person about all the past drama and relationships.

All of that could be classified as personal reasons.

The woman didn't say much more about it, just nodded slightly, "Our company is much smaller than DT Corp, and the benefits here definitely aren't as good as DT Corp's. Besides me, the company has three other employees. You'd be coming here to be my secretary and assistant, so the work will be pretty varied. Can you accept that?"

I was stunned for a moment.

That's it?

I thought she would at least ask more questions.

But she only asked about why I left my previous job, then went straight to discussing work arrangements?

She was still waiting for my answer. Without thinking too much, I nodded and agreed.

"I can accept that."

The woman nodded, "OK, come in to work tomorrow."

After saying this, she lowered her head and continued handling her work.

As if this interview was just a small slice of time she'd squeezed out from her busy schedule.

After leaving the office, the HR person was still waiting outside.

Seeing my somewhat dazed expression, she smiled slightly, "Our boss is just like that—decisive and firm. Once you work here longer, you'll understand. Working under a leader like this is actually really good."

She lowered her voice, "At least there won't be those endless, meaningless meetings."

As a fellow working person, I deeply related to this.

I smiled too, "Thank you."

Through my conversation with HR, I learned that the boss's name was Ophelia Blake. She used to be an elite at a big company and quit to start her own business.

She's quite impressive.

The HR person's name was Seraphine Lawson. She used to be Ophelia's subordinate and couldn't stand the unfair behind-the-scenes operations at the big company, so she followed Ophelia when she left.

"Your resume was personally approved by the boss. She said your experience was excellent, which is why she had me contact you for an interview."

Seraphine said warmly, "Don't worry, even though our company is small, the boss is truly very good."

Listening to all this, I somehow got the feeling that Seraphine was trying to reassure me, to make sure I wouldn't quit just because the company was small.

She had already walked me down to the ground floor of the office building.

I stopped and smiled at her, both helplessly and gratefully.

"Seraphine, thank you for telling me all this. Don't worry, I won't leave. I'm very grateful that Ms. Blake is willing to hire me and give me a chance to work."

This was the truth.

If I didn't get any more job offers, I was going to start doubting myself.

After saying goodbye to Seraphine, I headed home.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw Jessica sitting on the sofa with a bitter expression, staring at the entrance with eager anticipation.

As soon as she saw me, her eyes lit up and she rushed over, cheering.

"Mom! You're finally back!"

I caught Jessica in my arms and affectionately rubbed her head, "What's wrong?"

"Mom, you need to go to the kitchen and deal with Dad!"

Jessica rubbed her little face hard, and her worried expression eased a bit.

I was puzzled, "Why did he go to the kitchen again?"

"Dad said today is an important day for Mom's interview, and when Mom comes back, we need to have a good meal to celebrate properly."

Jessica answered.

My heart softened.

I kissed her cheek, "Mom will go check the kitchen."

With that, under Jessica's expectant gaze, I walked toward the kitchen.
