Chapter 100
"Sue, if you're being this formal with me, it'll hurt my feelings." Jason winked at me.
My heavy mood lifted a little.
Just as we were about to leave the restaurant, Jason suddenly stopped and said, "Wait here for a second."
Before I could respond, he quickly turned and headed back inside.
I didn't think much of it and just stood by the door waiting.
A few minutes later, Jason came hurrying back out.
"This is for you."
Suddenly, there was a bag in my hand.
I looked down in surprise and saw the restaurant's logo printed on it.
"This is..."
"The desserts here are pretty good. Give them a try."
Jason answered casually.
A warm feeling washed over me.
"Okay, thanks."
Hearing my response, Jason frowned slightly.
Jason pinched my cheek and said, "Let's go."
It wasn't until I got in the car that it finally hit me.
I turned to look at Jason, just in time to meet his concerned gaze.
"I'm fine now," I said softly.
Looking at the scenery constantly moving backward outside the window, I fell into thought.
Sadness was just a temporary emotion. What I needed to think about now was what to do next.
"If you need help, feel free to reach out anytime." Jason's voice sounded beside me.
I didn't turn my head, just said, "Thanks."
This was my family matter. I didn't want to trouble Jason.
"Sue," Jason suddenly lowered his voice and said helplessly, "even friends can rely on each other. You don't have to be so formal with me all the time."
Only then did I turn to look at him.
He wasn't looking at me, just staring straight ahead.
My lips moved, and I said calmly, "But I don't want to rely on anyone."
The car arrived downstairs at DT Corp.
As soon as I got out, I looked up and saw Elizabeth and Brian at the company entrance.
They must have just come back from lunch, too.
Elizabeth was talking to Brian when she caught sight of me out of the corner of her eye and strode toward me.
"I thought I was seeing things, but it really is Ms. Wilson."
Elizabeth, dressed in a suit with her arms crossed, looked me up and down with contempt.
"Seducing Brian wasn't enough for you? Now you're trying to seduce Mr. Cooper, too? I heard you even have a daughter? Look at yourself—do you really think you can seduce Mr. Cooper? You don't actually think you can marry into a wealthy family, do you?"
I frowned.
My already irritated mood was amplified in that moment!
"Miss Perez, if you have nothing better to do, maybe focus on keeping Brian instead of worrying so much about me," I said with a cold laugh.
From start to finish, I had always maintained a professional distance with Brian as a subordinate to a superior, never having any other thoughts.
But just because Brian had rejected her before, she was full of hostility toward me.
"You're shameless!" Elizabeth's face flushed red with anger as she glared at me.
"You must be regretting it now, seeing that Brian and I are about to get engaged, right? Well, regret won't help you—you're not good enough for Brian! You had a child out of wedlock—you're a woman nobody wants!"
Elizabeth's insults got worse and worse, and my expression darkened.
Just as I was about to speak, Jason got out of the car too.
"Who's insulting my woman?" Jason walked to my side, staring coldly at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth's eyes widened, fear flashing in them.
She opened her mouth and stammered, "Mr. Cooper, hello, I didn't expect to run into you here."
"Who are you?" Jason asked coldly, making Elizabeth's face turn even paler.
"I'm Elizabeth Perez. My dad is Steven Perez."
Only then did Jason nod slightly, drawing out his words deliberately, "Oh... so you're Mr. Perez's daughter."
He put his arm around my shoulder and looked Elizabeth up and down with half-closed eyes.
Under his gaze, Elizabeth's face showed undisguised unease.
After a moment, she finally couldn't take it anymore and asked carefully, "Mr. Cooper, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing, do you have any siblings?" Jason asked a completely unrelated question.
Elizabeth was stunned and shook her head instinctively, "No."
"Does Mr. Perez have any plans to have a second child recently?" Jason asked again.
Elizabeth looked even more confused. "My dad loves me very much. He has no plans to have another child."
"That's too bad." Jason shook his head with a long sigh.
Seeing Elizabeth still looking puzzled, he smiled.
Standing beside him, I couldn't help but laugh.
Now Elizabeth finally understood.
Her face instantly turned deathly pale, but facing Jason, she didn't dare get angry. She could only say, "Mr. Cooper, you don't need to target me like this. What I said before was all true. Sue..."
"No matter what she's like, Sue is the woman I love most. Since Sue already has such a great choice like me, why would she even look at your fiancé?" Jason raised an eyebrow, his tone matter-of-fact.
He turned his head to look at me and asked with a smile, "Sue, am I right?"
Elizabeth was about to say something when Jason leaned down and kissed me on the lips.
My eyes widened instantly, looking at the man in front of me in disbelief.
What was he doing!
We were downstairs at the company!
Before I could react, Jason had already straightened up and deliberately raised his voice, "As I like to say, Sue is my woman. I can kiss Sue—can your fiancé do that?"
As he spoke, his eyes glanced toward Brian in the distance.
Brian clenched his fists and left in silence.
Seeing Brian leave, Elizabeth looked at Jason fearfully and quickly chased after him, "Brian, wait for me!"
After those two left, Jason still kept his arm around my shoulder.
I silently pulled his hand away and strode toward the company.
Jason didn't stop me, just stood there.
Before I could breathe a sigh of relief, Jason suddenly shouted, "Sue, see you tonight!"
People around were drawn by Jason's words, and curious, gossipy gazes fell on me.
I didn't even dare look back at Jason and quickened my pace into the company.
As soon as I got to my desk, I heard arguing coming from Brian's office.
