Chapter 147 Zachary, do we still have a chance?

Victoria turned around and looked at him quietly.

After a moment, she softly said in a weary tone, "No need! My brother has given up the appeal! Zachary, you said that we would divorce after the child was born. I have no other requests; I want Emily ."

The night wind rustled.

Zachary gazed at her in the darkness. She had once loved him deeply, but now her love for him had turned to ashes, never to return.

Zachary's voice was hoarse as he apologized to her, admitting his mistake in blaming her that day and mentioning that Caitlin had answered the phone.

Victoria gave a bitter smile, "Zachary, what's the point of saying all this?"

Overnight, she and Mason lost their father. Whitney lost her husband. That night, Victoria almost lost her life, and Emily nearly didn't make it into this world. How could Zachary's apology make up for that?

She didn't know whom to blame now or whom to resent. All she knew was that she didn't want to see him or talk to him. She tried to leave, but Zachary stepped forward, picked her up, and placed her in the car.

Victoria refused that of course!

She pushed at his body, hoarsely telling him to let her go, but Zachary held her tightly, apologizing repeatedly, begging for another chance.

Victoria bit into his shoulder, Zachary’s each "sorry" met with a deeper bite. What was the meaning of his belated apologies?

Crimson blood trickled from her mouth, staining his black shirt, but Zachary didn't care. He continued to hold her, even removing her coat to touch her body along her spine.

Her body was thin to the bone, not like a woman who had just given birth. She had lost at least 22 pounds.

Zachary kept apologizing, wanting to take her home, while Victoria resisted fiercely.

Finally, he kissed her deeply, a kiss tainted with blood, also with his heartbreak and her profound hatred.

The driver in the car dared not look at them.

Zachary held Victoria tightly, instructing the driver to head back to the mansion.

Throughout the journey, Zachary held Victoria close, feeling her thinness, even hearing the slight impact of her bones as he held her tightly.

Half an hour later, the black Rolls-Royce Phantom arrived at the mansion, brightly lit inside as if it were daytime.

The driver got out, leaving them alone.

In the dimly lit car, Zachary loosened his grip on Victoria slightly but didn't let go completely. He looked down at her, speaking softly, "Emily is at home. Don't you want to see her? She's adorable, a mix of you and me! She's sleeping peacefully alone; I think she misses her mom very much."

Tears unexpectedly fell from Victoria's eyes.

Children were a mother's weakness.

Zachary opened the car door, carrying Victoria upstairs. Returning here, Victoria felt like a stranger.

Just a few days ago, this place had been filled with her blood, her cries for help unanswered.

Now, her husband returned, trying to start anew with tenderness.

Life was so dramatic.

The servants in the house remained silent, feeling guilty. Victoria didn't blame them.

She stumbled to the main bedroom on the second floor, where a nurse was watching over the child. Seeing them enter, she stood up politely, "Emily just fell asleep! Mr.Zachary and Mrs.Victoria, I'm in the next room if you need me!" Zachary nodded, asking her to leave.

In the quiet bedroom, a small crib had been added. Emily was sleeping peacefully in it.

Since her birth, Victoria had been busy outside and hadn't seen her much.

Seeing Emily sleeping quietly struck a chord in Victoria's heart.

This is the child she had carried for eight months and give birth in pain.

Victoria restrained herself, not wanting to disturb Emily , just gently touching her warm cheek.

How could she not miss Emily ? This was her child, born through great effort.

Zachary moved and embraced her from behind, his voice low and gentle, "Victoria, let me take care of you and the child. We can talk about our situation later, okay?" Victoria remained silent.

The premature baby in the crib started crying, a delicate cry that sounded like a little girl.

Zachary gently touched Victoria's shoulder, whispered, "She's hungry; why don't you feed her?"

Emily had been on formula these days. Zachary knew Victoria didn't breastfeed, but he wanted them to have a closer bond, hoping she would soften or stay by his side. He picked up Emily and placed her in Victoria's arms.

Perhaps fearing her rejection, he went to the living room, leaving them alone.

Sitting in the living room, he felt conflicted. Victoria was his wife, yet he felt ashamed to even look at her now. Their only connection seemed to be the child.

He used to scold her for begging.

Now, he wanted her to beg him instead.

If she begged him now, he would give her everything she wanted. But Victoria didn't look at him, yet speak to him, her eyes filled with despair.

Had their relationship reached its end? He didn't know how long he could keep her like this, but he didn't want to give up now.

In the bedroom, Victoria breastfed Emily , a mother's instinct guiding her actions. She skillfully removed her clothes to let Emily feed on her breast.

The baby took a few greedy sucks but didn't get any milk, her face turning red and bursting into tears, her cries echoing loudly.

Zachary entered from the living room to see this scene.

Emily was wailing, Victoria was at a loss, her thin face filled with confusion.

He shouldn't had have her breastfeed, as she was already exhausted.

But Zachary made a tough decision, calling for a nurse and arranging for a lactation consultant to come to the house. The nurse complied.

He turned back to Victoria, gently taking the child and adjusting her clothes, "You rest for a bit; I'll make some formula for the baby." He leaned in close to her, almost looking up at her.

At that moment, he wanted to be with her forever, softly murmuring, "Victoria, let's raise Emily together, okay?"

If she agreed, he was willing to give her everything, even his life.

Victoria turned her head slowly, silently gazing at him, her powerful husband.

After a while, she asked in a daze, "Zachary, do you think we still have a chance?"
