Chapter 256

Nicolas

“Well, that was interesting.”  Nicol said.  “I’m just happy you don’t think it’s the shoe that dropped.”  “No, I knew they will become an issue sooner or later and I’m not worried about you and Karen anymore.”  “Well, that is good to know because she will rock up at my office tomorrow.”  “Well then I’m going to the shelters and not coming into the office I’m not in the mood for that face again.”  I grab at my chest again.  “You wound me women now I have to sit with her alone.”  “Jason is there he can help you.”  “Between you and me sometimes I think his scared of her.”  “I would be to.”  Both of us giggled which made the two in question turn around and looked at us.  “Can I call that journalist now please pretty please.”  I begged Nicol.  “Yes, in fact let him come to meet us.”  “You sure?  You know those two will be very nosy if they see him with us.”  “Well, they’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to get the news like anyone else.”  “Well then call him.”  I took my cellphone out of my pocket and his business card.  His phone rang twice before he answered “Mr. Brown.”  “Micheal, I have good news for you.”  “You do?”  “Yes, won’t you come to the Reading room and I’ll give you a scoop that will put you on the front page of the New York times.”  “I’m on my way.” When I put the phone down Nicol said “I’m sure his saying to that cabby to drive like a bat out of hell.”  “I’m sure.”  Our food arrived and Nicol and I ate our food in relative silence there was a few howling laughter’s that came from Anton’s table but it was Karen making sure that we knew she was still there.

We were just finished eating when Michael walked into the restaurant, Karen saw him to and jumped up I could hear her from there how she asked him how he knew they were here, Micheal looked at her like he didn’t even know who she was then he said “Sorry I have an appointment.”  And walked past her to our table.  When I greeted Micheal and looked over his shoulder, I could see Karen fuming which I loved off course.  “Michael what can I get you to drink?”  I asked him “Just coffee I’m still on the clock.”  I called the waiter and ordered a coffee for Michael.  “Now what is this good news that will get me on the New York times?”  “I thought our engagement will do that by itself.”  I teased him because off course I knew it wouldn’t.  “You know it don’t work like that and who is that women weren’t she one of your models at one time.”  I actually felt embarrassed that that is how people saw me.  “Yes, she was and whatever I’m telling you now stays between us until it’s published, okay?”  “But I don’t have to wait anymore?”  “No, you don’t and we have more news.”  The waiter came with his coffee and he put some sugar in took a sip and asked “What else?”  “Well, we getting married in a month.”  “Oh, wow still not New York Times front page news.”  “Nicol is pregnant.”  “No fucking way!” Michael said so load he got the attention of everyone in the restaurant especially Karen’s.  “Congrats.”  He said to Nicol.  “Thank you but we want to keep it a secret especially from those two.”  Nicol pointed at Anton and Karen.  “No problem but the question on everyone’s lips will be are you getting married because you are pregnant?”   “Fuck no, we’ve waited 12 years of our lives we don’t want to waste another second.”  I told him.  “Okay and do I get an exclusive on the wedding?”  “Off course you do.”  Nicol told him.  “Well then if you guys will excuse me, I have a story to go and write if I want it in tomorrow’s paper.”  “Well then you better get to it.”  I told him.  “Yet again congratulations on everything really it couldn’t have happen to a better women and guy.”  He winked at me because he knew I was a bad boy in my time, but Nicol not so much and he clearly did his homework on Nicol.  “Thank you, Micheal.”  She said as he walked away.

It was Anton who stopped him this time wanting to make him do a story on them but Michael just said “I’m sorry I got what I came here for.”  “And what is that?”  Karen asked loudly.  “My business miss.”  Anton was screaming behind him “You will regret this.”  He looked at me and took a seat again.  Clearly very pissed off.  “I think someone is angry with us.”  Nicol said.  “Yes, well imagine their faces tomorrow when they realized I brought them together with no intention of ever leaving you.”  “You know what maybe I should be in the office tomorrow just to see Karen’s face.”  I laughed then Nicol laughed I paid our bill gave the waiter a hefty tip and helped Nicol out of her chair.  I could feel the eyes on us as we walked out of the restaurant.

“On to our next appointment? Are you ready for it?”  I asked Nicol.  “I am let’s just hope the people that canceled had some taste I can’t see our wedding in yellow or blue flowers I can work with pink and purple even red if I have to but yellow and blue never.”  “Well then let’s hope shall we.”  I bend towards her and kissed her.  “Wait I need to fix my make up you heard Karen I look sick.”  “Fuck her you look beautiful.”
