Chapter 240 Help Her Remove Shoes
Big companies sometimes believe even more in unscientific things like luck.
Elizabeth's mind raced as she thought through her options.
The doubts from Maddox and the others were something Elizabeth had to face.
Elizabeth looked directly at Maddox. "I won't avoid responsibility for this accident. We'll set up an investigation team as soon as possible to find out what caused it, and we'll activate our emergency plan to minimize the losses."
She turned to the other shareholders. "Everyone, I promise I'll do everything I can to handle this accident and make sure the company stays stable and your interests aren't harmed. Please give us some time, and we'll get back to you with a satisfactory answer soon."
The meeting room fell silent, with shareholders showing different expressions.
After a brief silence, about half the shareholders nodded in agreement, willing to give Elizabeth some time to handle the accident.
The other half didn't say anything. They were already on Maddox's side and chose to wait and see.
"One month. If the Sherman Group's stock is affected, I hope you'll voluntarily resign from your position as chairman of the Sherman Group."
Maddox was the first to walk out of the meeting room, and the other shareholders gradually followed.
Elizabeth watched them leave, then turned to Robbie. "Robbie, contact the relevant departments right away and activate the emergency plan. Also, send an investigation team to the accident site immediately to find out what happened."
Robbie nodded. "Okay, I'll get on it right away."
Elizabeth walked out of the meeting room and continued, "The PR department needs to come up with an emergency PR plan right away to minimize the negative impact. We need to release a statement to the public and media, showing that we're actively handling this and will announce the investigation results in time."
Freya went to see the Lumaria dance troupe's performance again today.
But Elara didn't come today.
This made Freya, who was naturally cautious around unfamiliar strangers, feel a bit more at ease.
Watching the dancers' graceful movements on stage, Freya nodded. This dance troupe was really good.
After the hour-long performance ended, Freya stood up and left the performance hall. Just as she reached the entrance, she ran into some familiar faces who had also come to watch the performance.
They were all people Freya had met in her social circles.
"Freya, I didn't expect you'd come watch a dance performance today," Aurelia Kingsley said with a smile.
Freya smiled back. "I heard the performance was excellent, so I came to check it out."
Another madam came over. "I heard your family recently found your daughter who'd been lost for years. That's wonderful. It's just too bad I had something come up and couldn't attend your party."
"Yes, we found her," Freya replied, her eyes showing some complicated emotions.
"Congratulations, congratulations," several madams offered their well wishes.
"She's now the chairman of the Sherman Group and owns shares in it too. She's really outstanding," the madams praised.
But Aurelia sneered inwardly. Jake was already dead.
"Too bad Mrs. Bailey didn't come today," Aurelia suddenly interjected. "I wanted to ask her to look at my Juniper's fortune for this year."
This Aurelia was Juniper's mother.
"You mean that Mrs. Bailey from Lumaria?" one of the madams quickly chimed in. "You know, she's really good at divination. The Rivera family in Lumaria is a well-known family of fortune tellers."
"That impressive? My son's been worrying about opening a shop lately. I really need to meet this Mrs. Bailey if I get the chance," another madam said, looking quite interested.
"So Mrs. Bailey really does divination?" Freya asked with some surprise. "Are you talking about the lady whose real name is Elara?"
"Yes," Aurelia confirmed with a nod. "Many people say Mrs. Bailey's predictions are very accurate."
Freya nodded. So the Elara she met yesterday really was a fortune teller.
Most noble families took feng shui seriously.
Freya took a car back home.
When Russell saw her, he asked with concern, "Freya, how did you feel about the performance today?"
Freya nodded. "It was okay, the performance was wonderful."
"As long as you're happy," Russell smiled. "Freya, Elizabeth will bring Seraphina home for dinner in a couple of days."
Freya's previously pleasant mood instantly soured when Russell mentioned Elizabeth. She snorted coldly. "She answers when you call."
Freya's face turned cold as she picked up the remote and turned on the TV. The news happened to be on.
On screen, the host was interviewing a shareholder who had just walked out of the Sherman Group, and the person being interviewed was Maddox.
"Hello, Mr. Sherman, will this Silicon Express shipping accident affect the Sherman Group?" the host asked.
Facing the camera, Maddox smiled slightly. "That depends on how our newly appointed Ms. Penrose handles it. But I believe the Sherman Group has enough capability and resources to deal with this crisis."
The host continued, "So will this accident affect shareholder and investor confidence?"
Maddox maintained his calm expression and replied gently, "Any company will face various challenges during its development. As shareholders, we have confidence in the company's management and emergency response capabilities. I believe that with everyone's joint efforts, the Sherman Group will definitely get through this difficult time and continue moving forward steadily."
"Please trust Ms. Penrose."
His last sentence was a meaningful addition.
The TV screen switched to the host's closing remarks.
After watching, Freya frowned slightly. She looked at Russell. "Something happened at the Sherman Group?"
Freya felt vaguely uneasy. What bad luck had Elizabeth run into? She just didn't seem very fortunate lately.
At this moment, Freya even had a fleeting thought about doing a divination for Elizabeth, hoping to find some comfort.
Russell frowned. "I'll call Elizabeth tonight to ask."
Having managed a company before, he sensed the risks this accident might bring. If not handled well, it could indeed affect Elizabeth's position at the Sherman Group.
Freya furrowed her brow. "Do you think I should do a divination for Elizabeth?"
Hearing this, Russell's face immediately darkened. "Don't you dare mention that kind of thing in front of Elizabeth."
Freya said with some displeasure, "What do you mean 'that kind of thing'? I'm just concerned. When it comes to divination, it's better to believe it might be real than to assume it's not."
Russell said firmly, "I believe our daughter is capable. She relies on her own efforts and abilities to solve problems. Why would you do a divination out of nowhere? Plus, she has the Nightingale Group behind her. What's there to worry about?"
After hearing this, although Freya still felt somewhat reluctant, she didn't want to argue with Russell over this.
She sighed. "I'm just worried about her. Why are you being so harsh?"
"I'm not being harsh," Russell said gently. "I understand your concern, but we need to trust Elizabeth's abilities."
Freya nodded. "I'm going upstairs to rest for a bit."
While taking a bath, Freya thought about Elara from Lumaria. She wanted to contact Elara.
No matter what, Freya still felt she needed to do a divination for Elizabeth.
Freya reached for her phone and called Aurelia, getting Elara's phone number from her.
"Hello, Mrs. Bailey, I'm Freya. We met at the concert yesterday," Freya said in a gentle tone.
A refined voice came from the other end. "Mrs. Nightingale, hello. How can I help you?"
Freya smiled lightly. "Well, I'd like you to do a divination for my daughter."
Elara paused for a moment, then said slowly, "Mrs. Nightingale, could you provide your daughter's birth date? I need this information for the reading, and then we can arrange a time to meet. It would be clearer to discuss in person."
Freya nodded. "Sure, you can set the meeting time. I'll send you the information you need in a moment. Thank you."
Elara smiled. "You're welcome."
After hanging up, Freya immediately sent Elizabeth's birth date to Elara.
Freya finally felt a bit more at ease.
That night.
Elizabeth rubbed her temples as she returned home, her face showing a trace of weariness.
She pushed open the door, and the warm, soft light from the entryway spilled onto the carpet, illuminating her tired figure.
Timothy was already waiting for her in the entryway, his eyes gentle.
Seeing Elizabeth come in, he bent down to help her take off her high heels.
His movements were gentle and practiced.
Then he picked up a pair of comfortable slippers for her to put on.
Timothy crouched on the floor, a smile playing at his lips. He looked up, his eyes deep. "Elizabeth, you worked hard today."
