Chapter 144: Is Alexander Your Father?

Chapter 144: Is Alexander Your Father?

Alexander saw him about to leave and reached out to grab his hand. Ethan glanced at him, his eyes landing on Alexander's hand, and asked coolly, "Can I help you?"

"No." A rare hint of a friendly smile appeared at the corner of Alexander's mouth.

"If there's nothing, could you let go of my hand? I need to go home."

Alexander stood up and pulled him along, "I'll take you home."

Ethan quickly yanked his hand back and pointed at the yellow buses outside the main entrance, "No need, our school has buses."

"Come on, I'll take you." Alexander ignored his protests and pulled him along. Emily pouted and chased after them from behind. Though she felt jealous, thinking about how Ethan didn't have a father made her feel better about it.

Alexander was tall and handsome, and Ethan was also good-looking. The adult and child walking together made quite a striking sight.

After struggling for a while without breaking free, Ethan glared at him angrily, "Why do you like sticking your nose in other people's business so much? I already said I don't need you to take me."

"Ethan, is he your dad?" A little kid walked over, looking curiously at Alexander and then at him. They did look somewhat alike!

"No." Both of them said at the same time.

"Sure he is. Your dad is handsome, but my dad's not bad either. Look, my dad's here." The little boy waved at a man in a suit in the distance and ran over, diving into his father's arms. Both their faces were filled with bright, happy smiles.

For the first time, Ethan felt his nose sting. He shook off Alexander's hand forcefully and walked away on his own.

But Alexander reached out and grabbed his backpack. As they pulled back and forth, there was a tearing sound - the backpack ripped in half, and everything fell to the ground.

"What's wrong with you? So annoying." Ethan glanced at him and picked up the things from the ground. This was so frustrating - why was he so unlucky every time he ran into this Alexander!

Alexander felt awkward for a moment, completely not expecting this to happen. Though seriously, the quality of his backpack was pretty terrible! He bent down to help pick up the scattered textbooks, and a flash of surprise crossed his eyes.

Quadratic function practice problems, Oxford dictionary, and most importantly, a book on stock trading essentials.

"These books are yours?" he asked curiously.

Ethan snatched the books back from his hands and said coolly, "Is there a problem?"

"Didn't realize you were so impressive, kid." He patted his head with genuine praise. This child really was impressive - he was liking this kid more and more.

Ethan hugged the books and turned to leave, but Alexander grabbed his arm again. Ethan felt completely speechless - what was this guy trying to do? Were they even that familiar?

"Let me take you."

"No need, thank you." He said politely.

"I tore your backpack, let me get you a new one."

"No need, thank you." Ethan said patiently.

When did Alexander become so naggy? From what he knew about this man, he should be someone decisive and straightforward. How did he become like this around him? Couldn't figure it out, really couldn't figure it out.

"Goodbye." After Ethan finished speaking, he turned and left, not giving Alexander another chance to speak.

Alexander watched his retreating figure. This kid was really stubborn.

"Alexander, don't be mad at Ethan. He doesn't have a dad, he's really pitiful." Emily tugged at his hand and said softly.

"How could I be mad at a little kid? Let's go home!" He picked up her backpack and walked toward the parking lot.

This kid was really interesting.

As soon as Ethan got on the school bus, he received a call from Charlotte and his mood brightened considerably. Because of Charlotte's work, they rarely had time to eat together, especially today with his godmother and uncle there too. Just thinking about it made him feel good.

When he got home, the smell of food was already coming from the kitchen. Elsa was coming out with dishes when she saw Ethan walk in.

"Godmother, are my uncle and the others here?"

Elsa laughed, "Bruce and Alan are both here. Hungry?"

Ethan nodded, "Yes, the food at school wasn't good today." Most importantly, that damn chef had sprinkled pine nuts on it, so he didn't eat lunch all afternoon.

Charlotte poked her head out from the kitchen, "You're back?"

"Mommy, I'm so hungry." Ethan acted cute - mom was still the best person in the world.

Charlotte patted his head, "Good boy, we're out of oil. Go to the corner store and buy a bottle, then we can eat soon."

Ethan nodded, took fifty dollars and ran out. They could eat soon - mommy's cooking! Just thinking about it made his mouth water. But as soon as he got to the store, his face darkened.

Alexander - why was it him again!

"Boss, give me a bottle of oil." He directly ignored Alexander and called out to the owner.

"Is your mom home?" The store owner was actually the chef from the pasta restaurant next door, so he had a good impression of Ethan.

Ethan nodded without saying anything, paid, grabbed the oil and left.

"Ethan, your uncle's been waiting for you forever, why aren't you talking to him?" The owner's voice came from behind.

Ethan's mouth twitched with disdain. Uncle? In his dreams!

Alexander walked over to him, holding a white gift bag, and said coolly, "This is a backpack for you."

Ethan paused but still reached out to take the bag, "Thanks for spending the money."

When Elsa walked over, she was shocked. Wasn't that person in the distance Alexander? And that little boy was Ethan. Oh my god, what was going on?

Just as she turned around, Alexander's eyes looked her way. He recognized that slender figure as Elsa right away and called out coldly, "What are you doing here?"

"Mr. Wilson, hello." Elsa slowly turned around. Oh no, if only she had waited a bit longer. How was she supposed to know Alexander would show up here? If Charlotte hadn't urgently needed the oil, she wouldn't have come out, and she definitely wouldn't have seen this scene.

Did Ethan know that Alexander was his father?

"Isn't that woman Elsa, the big star who's always on TV?" Ethan called out, his eyes wide as he walked over to her. "You're Elsa."

Elsa was stunned for a moment. What was this situation? Seeing his expression, she naturally knew what he was up to and laughed, "Little friend, you know me?"

"Of course, my mommy loves watching your shows. Do you live here too?"

"No, I have a relative here so I came to visit her. Do you know that gentleman?" Elsa asked.

Ethan nodded, "Don't know him."

"Oh no, mommy's waiting for the oil to cook. I have to go, bye." Ethan grinned and ran off.

Elsa breathed a sigh of relief and moved closer to him, "Mr. Wilson, do you know that little boy just now?"

"Don't know him."

"What brings you here?"

Alexander turned and walked away, "Visiting a friend. I'm leaving now."

"Take care, Mr. Wilson."

Only after Alexander's car had driven far away did Elsa turn back. Suddenly Ethan jumped out from a corner, "Godmother, is that man my mommy's ex-husband?"

Elsa looked around before saying, "How do you know Alexander?"

Ethan blinked his big eyes at her, "I don't know him!"

"Then why would he give you something? You've seen each other at school, haven't you?" Elsa looked at him seriously. This was no joke - if the Wilson family found out...

Ethan shook his head, "On the way back, one of my classmates fell down and that man happened to see it and reached out to help him. But when he lifted the backpack it tore, so to apologize he bought a new one. He just happened to see me and asked me to pass it along to my classmate."

Elsa still looked at him skeptically, "Then how did he know your classmate lives here?"

"That man saw my classmate's school name tag."

"Is that really what happened?"

"Really, would I lie to you?" Ethan rolled his eyes.

"That's good then. If you run into that person again, stay far away from him, or I'll tell your mom."

Ethan nodded, "Okay, I won't see him again anyway."

The meal ended in a cheerful atmosphere. Bruce had something scheduled so he left first. The remaining people chatted for a while before resting. This was rare downtime. Elsa and Charlotte put on face masks and lay on the bed, each reading their own scripts. Though this life was hectic, they both felt very content.

"Charlotte, have you ever thought about finding a father for Ethan?" Elsa spoke up, breaking the focused silence.

Charlotte stared straight at the ceiling, "Of course I have, but who would want me? I want my child to have a normal life. Right now having him hide with me all the time, I don't know when it will end."

"Have you thought about getting back together with Alexander? He doesn't have a girlfriend now, you..."

"That's impossible between us." Charlotte cut her off with a cold laugh. "Right now because of the cooperation with the Wilson Group, I can't exactly give him attitude, so it's best if we can work together smoothly. Once the cooperation is done, we won't have any connection. I've never forgotten what he did to me."

"He was pretty excessive before, but for the child's sake, won't you consider it?"

"He never planned to have this child in the first place. Showing up in front of him now would just upset him, wouldn't it? Plus I don't want to drag the child into this. Things between us aren't as simple as they look on the surface. I don't want Ethan to live like Benjamin."

Elsa nodded, "True, Benjamin and Alexander are both Henry's children but get treated differently. Rich people take family status very seriously. You'll meet a good man who doesn't mind about Ethan."

Charlotte giggled, "Hope so. You're not young anymore either, it's time to think about yourself. You can't live off your youth forever. If you meet someone suitable, give it a try. I don't want both of us to end up not getting married."

A trace of sadness flashed in Elsa's eyes, "You know my situation. How am I qualified to date anyone?"
