Chapter 102 Dagger
"Eugene cheated on me during our marriage and had a son with his mistress! Before the divorce, he even ran off with all the money your grandfather made from selling paintings. What a bastard!" Emily gritted her teeth in anger as she recalled the past, a stark contrast to her usual gentle demeanor.
Amelia felt a chill in her heart upon hearing Emily's words, losing any remaining affection she had for Eugene.
Thinking back to when Ryan asked for a divorce, at least he gave her a substantial breakup fee and was always gentle and considerate, never resorting to violence.
In contrast, Eugene, even after so many years of divorce, still came to demand money and beat Emily.
She never thought much of Ryan before, but now, in comparison, Ryan seemed much better.
She couldn't help but lean closer to him, placing her hand on his. Seeing this, Ryan held her hand in return and gently asked, "Does your nose still hurt?"
Amelia rested her head on his shoulder and softly replied, "It's okay."
They arrived at the hospital.
Emily accompanied Amelia to the examination room for an X-ray.
Ryan went outside to take a business call.
The X-ray was taken, but they had to wait in line for the results. Emily and Amelia found an empty chair in the hallway to sit down.
Because Amelia had lost a lot of blood from her nose and felt a bit dizzy, so she leaned on Emily's shoulder to rest.
Suddenly, she felt a venomous gaze directed at her. Following the gaze, Amelia saw Jessa.
Jessa was being pushed in a wheelchair by a servant, also there for an X-ray. Amelia's lips curled into a faint sneer; it was indeed a small world.
Emily noticed Amelia's unusual expression and followed her gaze.
She saw a woman in a hospital gown, heavily made up and adorned with expensive jewelry, sitting in a wheelchair, glaring venomously at Amelia.
Emily had never seen such a disgusting look before.
Still agitated from Eugene's earlier confrontation, Emily immediately shouted, "If your eyes are bad, go to the ophthalmology department!"
Jessa's face changed, and she gave Emily a disdainful look before glaring at Amelia again. She then turned to her servant and sharply ordered, "Hurry up and push me away!"
Amelia softly reassured Emily, "She's Sophia's mom."
Emily understood that no wonder her eyesight was bad.
The servant, hearing the order, hurriedly pushed Jessa away, almost colliding with a pregnant woman.
The pregnant woman was accompanied by her mother-in-law. The older women kept the pregnant woman steady, then turned and pointed at Jessa, cursing, "Do you not watch where you're going? What if you hurt someone?"
The older woman's spittle landed directly on Jessa's face.
Jessa angrily wiped the spit off her face.
People in the hospital heard the commotion and turned to look at them.
Jessa felt embarrassed and pulled out a wad of cash from her wallet. She threw it on the ground and angrily said, "Take the money and get lost!"
Seeing Jessa's embarrassment from afar, Amelia couldn't help but laugh. There was always one thing to overcome another.
Ryan finished his call and returned to find Amelia smiling. He sat beside her, patted her head, and asked, "What's making you so happy?"
"We just ran into Jessa. She looked pretty miserable," Amelia said with a slight smile.
Ryan followed her gaze and saw Jessa being pushed in a wheelchair, her arm hooked up to an IV. He smirked slightly, "She does look miserable."
He didn't plan to tell Amelia about arranging for someone to teach Jessa a lesson because he didn't want her to see his darker side. Perhaps the more you cared about someone, the more you wanted to appear perfect in their eyes.
After accompanying Amelia for a CT scan, they were relieved to find that her nasal bone wasn't fractured.
The doctor treated the wound in her nose and prescribed some anti-inflammatory medication and saline solution. After that, they left the hospital.
Ryan arranged for someone to take Amelia home, reminding her to rest well, and then headed to the Martin Group for work.
Emily also returned to Meadowbrook City.
At home, Amelia had a meal and then curled up on the sofa to read. Her phone suddenly rang.
Answering it, she heard a deep, somewhat familiar male voice, "Is your mom okay?"
Recognizing Christopher's voice, Amelia smiled slightly and softly replied, "She's fine, thank you for your concern."
"That's good to hear," Christopher said after a pause.
Not knowing what else to say, Amelia thanked him again.
After a moment of silence, Christopher added, "Take care of yourself."
Amelia was slightly surprised. How did he know she was injured? Being naturally reserved and not very familiar with him, she didn't ask further and simply thanked him again, "Okay, thank you."
He replied, "You're welcome."
After a few seconds, Christopher hung up. Amelia put down her phone and picked up her book again.
But her mind was too restless to focus.
For some reason, she felt that Christopher was overly concerned about her. But then she thought, maybe he's just a naturally warm person.
She decided not to dwell on it.
In the evening, Ryan came home earlier than usual.
Azalea knew that Amelia was injured and had specially made oatmeal porridge to nourish her.
They had dinner together and drank the oatmeal porridge.
Ryan asked with concern, "Have you taken your medicine?"
Amelia shook her head and planned to take it after dinner.
Ryan pinched her cheek gently and asked helplessly, "Where's the medicine? I'll bring it over for you. Remember to take it later."
Amelia pointed to her bag by the door.
Ryan got up, opened the bag, and took out the medicine.
His eyes caught sight of a delicate silver-engraved dagger beneath the medicine. The sheath had a row of letters on it.
He took out the dagger curiously and unsheathed it.
The silver, sharp blade gleamed menacingly. Ryan quickly recognized it as one of the top-ranked combat knives in the world.
It had immense lethality, capable of piercing through a target instantly, with the back edge also being a deadly weapon.
Such knives were hard to come by on the market.
Ryan silently put the dagger back, took out the medicine, and placed it on the table next to Amelia. He poured her a glass of water.
As he brought the water over, he casually asked, "When did you get a dagger?"
Amelia then remembered that Christopher had given her the dagger earlier.
Not wanting to hide anything from Ryan and disliking lying, she smiled and truthfully said, "I ran into Christopher at Antique Charm today. When I got an urgent call from Juliet, he saw I was in a hurry and gave me the dagger for self-defense."
