Chapter 79 – Waiting For This
TERESA.
The beast was looking us both in the eyes, growling and making terrifying sounds, preparing to attack. Only something stopped her. I stared at her, waiting for the moment, but it amazed me when she simply turned her back on us and ran into the forest.
But in her place, three enormous beasts, as if coming out of the flames of hell, preparing to attack us and turn us into their meal. Demons of terror and decay have spotted us, so we once again resume our fight position.
Whatever happened, me and Caroline were together. We will fight this battle together and defeat these demons. Send them back to hell where they belonged and from where they shouldn’t have come out.
Their vicious eyes stare at us with dazing violence and quick breathing escaped from the creature’s deep nostrils. The same sulfur stench made me sick and mad at the same time. It was time that someone would teach these creeps a lesson that they will never forget.
Suddenly, they moved closer to us, making Caroline a little crazier than I expected. I could see that she wanted to attack and make victims, but it was just the frenzy and adrenaline of the moment. If she doesn’t master it, she will suffer.
“Take it easy, Caro, it’s exactly what they expect,” I whispered to her, holding my hand in front of her.
Her feverish energy was not enough for us to win. These creatures were also smart. Their horrible grimaces made us more vigilant by following their every breath and every move.
Flickering flames burst around their bodies, staring managing at us like waiting for a signal to engage. I just stared at this huge beast standing and growling before me.
His horrifying moan was meant to scare us away, but guess what, you filthy damn fuck, we were not going anywhere! I gasped at the whistling noise of its breathing and the ground shook when they walked slowly towards us.
Howling for the last time, the monster threw itself at us, revealing its sharp fangs and claws that came out menacingly.
Closer, you damn demon, so I can let you have a taste of your own medicine! When I thought it was close enough, I released the fireball, boiling in my hand. I hit it hard in its groin, so it didn’t even have time to get too close.
Felling to the ground in agony, I moved closer to give him the final blow. The beast died screaming like a big cat. When I turned, two of the devils cornered Caroline. She could do them both, but her transformation was recent, so I launched for one of them.
Right on its back, riding it like a mad animal. Again, I formed one of my balls, this time smaller, and instead of firing it, I pressed hard on its side until my fire went inside. “Take that, you freaking shit!” I yelled, holding it down and pinning even harder until I felt my fire would explode.
It was time to move over. I jumped off its back, letting it torment himself in death that was coming his way to claim it.
Two dead, one more to go, and Caroline was dealing with it. I watched from a distance. She was doing very well. She jumped firmly on the beast’s neck, digging her fangs deep into its throat and then gathering all her strength and lifted it above her head.
It really amazed me at how strong she really was. She looked at me triumphantly; her face covered in blood and with a determined voice; she filled the silence in the park.
“Your turn, Terr!” she shouted, throwing the beast into thin air.
I felt the heat in my hand again and formed my fireball for the last time, another I aimed at the demon, turning it into ashes. It was over, and we were alive.
“Let’s get out of here. It will soon fill this place with such beasts, and I don’t feel like fighting all night, do you?” I spoke with a small smile on my face, although it felt out of place under the circumstances.
We had to give many other explanations, since both Bash and Erik were at home. I will never forget his eyes, full of terror when he saw me so dirty, full of blood, even if it wasn’t mine.
“What the hell happened to you?” he asked, coming slightly closer and trying to touch my face. I avoided it without thinking.
“We are fine, don’t worry. We just fought a couple of beasts!” I answered lightly, turning my back to leave.
But at that moment, a firm grip got hold of me, forcing me to turn around and getting face to face with him. I almost forgot how deep his eyes were. “What are you doing? Let go of me!” I shouted, jerking so I could get out of his hold.
“Let you go? Are you kidding me, woman? You disappear after our talk, then you return covered in blood and you are telling me to let you go? What the hell is the matter with you?”
But then I cracked and all my anger from my inside I let it out. I’ll make him swallow all his words, one by one.
“What the hell is wrong with me? I will tell you what is wrong with me. You are!” and seeing his eyes widen, I continued just as wounded. “From the day you turned me into an experiment to the day you gave me the opportunity to be free, if that’s what I wanted, you never thought about how I felt. You never gave me a chance to feel, to talk. You just stood there giving orders and when the guild was too big to handle, you decided that letting me free was the better option. Well, I have news for you Bash, my better option is YOU! But if you cannot see it, so be it. Free me!”
These were my last words before I realized it was already morning. I took a shower and went to the company to bury myself again at work and forget about his existence.
I’ve never seen Bash so upset and determined to set me free, if that was my wish. I never thought I would shout it in his face like that, but I really didn’t want to. Even though we were going through a more troublesome time, Bash was my partner, my soulmate.
But right about now, I was so pissed off that he could do such a thing to me. Thinking back on what he did in his office to scare me like that was the most uninspired decision. Why hurt himself like that? What did he think? That I will have such a stony heart that I will not react.
I was so confused. My thoughts kept running through my head and I couldn’t put them in order. And Bash, who was absolutely in all of them.
Maybe if I focused on what I still had to do at the office, I could forget about my problems. And I really had a lot of them. Suddenly that beast’s eyes came to my mind, the first beast that did not attack us, did nothing to us, and how familiar it all seemed.
I simply could not forget the hatred with which it looked at me and how it still chose not to attack me.
As I was so focused, I heard a pretty loud noise in the lab. Who could be here at this hour in the morning? Curiosity got the best of me, so I got up from my desk and went down to the lab.
It was still dark, so I turned on the lights. Luana probably was about to come, but I didn’t really want her to find me here, among her test tubes and substances. And this place made me shiver, so I didn’t feel so comfortable here.
There was nothing strange when I entered, maybe just a specific smell from everything from here. I didn’t even discover the source of the noise that made me come.
But suddenly I felt dizzy, unable to move forward or go out to ask for help. I couldn’t stand up anymore, and the whole place seemed to spin. This weakness made me vulnerable, but what could fall to pieces like that?
I knocked down a few test tubes from the workbench, desperate to find my balance, to help me endure the physical pain that was getting over me. What the hell is happening with me? But the next thing I knew, everything went black, and I collapsed to the ground, still a little conscious and enough to distinguish a silhouette approaching me.
Nice, now I can get some help. But that silhouette was not here to help me. And that voice...
“I’ve been waiting for this for too long!”
