Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Dylan understood everything. But the embarrassment of breaking up with Vivienne was worse than the embarrassment of staying with her. He understood the risk of being with Vivienne and that he was shooting himself in the foot if he did get married to her. It honestly was barely about love now and was leaning more towards ego. There were unfortunately still feelings there, it would be hard to just get rid of them at the snap of his fingers, because if it were then he would have never gotten this far. But having to go back and face the music that he failed in the end and be the laughing stock of the internet was not something he wanted to go through.
He was sure that him being ridiculed would have sort of an effect on his father's business since he was only known because of it. He was sure no one would take him seriously anymore and now that he had pushed and pushed with his relationship with Vivienne, he found like it was too far to go back, no matter how much it would frustrate him to be with her.
And on the note of Vivienne frustrating him, he was now sitting amongst his friends trying to enjoy himself because apparently, it was his bachelor party. The idea was sudden and he had no time to even protest before Vivienne had thrust him into the situation. He would not have been frustrated with a mere bachelor party, but the fact that it was the night before their wedding.
The very next day Vivienne and Dylan were getting married and she decided that it was a great idea to have both the bachelor and bachelorette party then. Meaning that most people would show up hungover or some would not even show up at all. He wondered what exactly her plan was for that and if she purposely wanted people not to go, but then again, that made no sense, so it was probably her trying to be dramatic.
The bachelor party was held on the beach and the bachelorette party was in the hotel. Dylan was sitting among his chatting friends on plastic chairs with beers in their hands. He was barely taking a sip, trying not to get drunk. Meanwhile, he had to watch friends drinking their asses off and not caring one bit about the future. He wished he could be as carefree as then and not have to worry about a wedding. He guessed that was another reason why Vivienne was causing frustration in his life.
"Dylan," one of his friends walked up to him, or more accurately, stumbled.
"Hey Luke," he gave him a smile.
Luke sat down next to him and put his hand on Dylan’s shoulder. "You don't have to be over here sulking. Come and have fun, forget about Vivienne, we know you want to anyway. So let's go."
He was more than aware of his friend's opinions of Vivienne and he was sure that they didn't want him to marry her. If he asked now, all of them would line up and try to convince him against it. They had tried in the past and he just ended up snapping at them and so they didn't bring it up again. All they were doing was looking out for his best interest and he was constantly betraying them by staying with her.
Dylan sighed and rested down his beer in the sand. "I cannot get wild and crazy like you guys. I'm sure you're aware of what happens tomorrow."
At the mention of it, his stomach dropped. He was getting married tomorrow, sealing his life fate forever by marrying Vivienne. He would be trapped, and he was too much of a wimp to pull out now anyway.
"Yeah, so what the wedding is tomorrow." Luke picked up the bottle and handed it to him.
"Although many people say this, it really is your last night of freedom, so why spend it without having fun."
It took a couple more minutes of him convincing Dylan before he agreed to drink a little with them. And then, a little turned into a lot, and soon enough he was drunk. Not drunk enough not to know what he was doing or saying, but enough where he could not stand up straight and where he could think straight all the time. He had stopped drinking when he realized when it came to this point and so he decided to head back to the resort.
The beach was not far from it and so it was only a five-minute walk for him to reach there. He stumbled through the lounge and towards the area where the bachelorette party was. It was in the bar and once he got there, he stayed leaning against the wall to the far back and watching what was going down. He did not know why he wanted to be there, so he just remained on the wall, unnoticed, for an uncertain amount of time.
Vivienne was obviously the loudest person there and she was laughing and shouting, talking with her friends like it was the end of the world, saying every word as if she did not have enough time to. He could not tell if she was drunk or not because it was the way she acted.
He also noticed Marianne, she was sitting away from the group and was slowly sipping on some wine. She looked to be in another world and Dylan continued to look at her. He then looked at Vivienne, before looking back to Marianne and then back and forth again. He had meant that he said the day he kissed her. If he had found her first then he was sure things would be better. He would be marrying an elegant, intelligent, gorgeous woman, instead of Vivienne, a child. Someone who seemed to have no control over her emotions and did not know how to compromise.
He stayed on the wall, watching Marianne, watching as she, like him, began to drink more, because of her thoughts. She looked stressed and conflicted and so she began picking up more glasses and once the other girls noticed they encouraged her to do so. He watched as she became drunk over time, and then eventually got up and left the bar, stumbling away and using the wall for support.
Marianne walked back to her room and he followed behind her, not really sure why but he did. He stayed close to her and she was completely unaware of his presence. But that was until they reached the corridor where her room was. He knew she was going to go into her room and disappear, and so she picked up his pace and stopped her.
She screamed. Obviously surprised by his sudden presence. "Oh, it's you. Mr... Mr. Carter, it's not very nice to scare people."
He held into her shoulder and turned her to face him. "I know. I apologize."
"What are you doing here?" Marianne looked around as if she could not understand what he would be doing by her room. "Did you come for some help? Well, if you did... I'm not really in my best mind right now."
She pulled away from his hold and went back walking to her room.
"I know, that's why I came for something else."
And then he kissed her. But unlike before, she kissed him back.
