Chapter 34
Chapter 34
There was a week left until the wedding and Marianne was working overtime trying to get Vivienne and Dylan to not see eye to eye. It wasn't that she was hoping for a fight, but she was lowkey kind of hoping for one at the same time. It seemed like her power as a therapist to try and call off relationships was not working and so she needed to bring it on herder. Her target was mostly Dylan since he was the one with the rationality in the relationship.
For Vivienne, it was just Marianne asking her if she was sure and if she was willing to take the chance again and risk it all, but Vivienne was so far up in fantasy land that she would barely take in a word that Marianne would say. Because Dylan came back to her, she was over the moon that she had him once again and in her mind, she was probably thinking that she was practically invincible. It wasn't that she was invincible, it was that Dylan was just a weak man.
It didn't have to be those harsh words exactly, but that was what it was. And Marianne was just saying what everyone was thinking. The way he ha out on such a show for absolutely nothing, really made Marianne’s eye twitch every time she saw him laughing and smiling with Vivienne. She felt like her skills as a therapist were a joke to these people. They just blatantly ignored her word and dragged her in for absolutely nothing. Especially Dylan, since he was the one that called her.
And the part that really made her blood boil was that they continued coming for therapy as if nothing happened. She would have thought that they would assume that because of everything they would just go on about their lives but it seemed like she was mistaken. Vivienne even came for her individual therapy without any hesitation.
"They have to be messing with me?" Marianne muttered to herself as she chewed on the back of her pen. "There's no way that that couple is remotely serious in anything they are doing. Is this a joke? Am I a joke?"
She sat in the office with her feet up on the coffee table. It was evening and she could hear the faint sounds of people enjoying themselves outside. Marianne was not sure what they were doing and she honestly did not care. Ever since she had been dragged to Bali, it all seemed to fall down. If she were to give up on Vivienne and Dylan and go back home, then she would be left with a stain on her record. There would be people who would be understanding, knowing who she had to deal with. But there were so many people that claimed that she would be the reason that they finally broke up. And Marianne wanted to be.
Her desire may be becoming a bit selfish but she felt like it was owed to her after all they did to her. Column't they just break up for her, so that she would not have to deal with the failure of it all.
"No, no." she scolded herself. "That's not how we're supposed to think, you know that. Don't be so bad."
When she had talked to Dylan about breaking up with Vivienne, and brought up the point that what he was doing was selfish and that he needed to think of her in all of this. He just told her that Vivienne was happy with him and so she would learn to get better with him. If that was not the most ignorant selfish thing someone had told her.
He was basically telling Marianne that he didn't care about Vivienne and if she got better then harray. What had she done to poison his mind? Or what had he done to himself?
"It definitely is not love anymore. Not just love. There has to be something bigger at play here. Is it because Vivienne is good at sex?" she wondered.
"Woah, woah, woah, I don't think those are thoughts that a therapist should be having." a sudden voice said.
She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't hear the door to the office open. And leaning against the threshold was someone she had never interacted with before. She had seen his face around but never got his name nor talked to him. There were times when their eyes would meet and he would give her a simple nod of acknowledgement and that was it.
Marianne’s face burned with embarrassment and she quickly took her legs down off the coffee table. She smoothed out her dress and sat properly.
He smiled at her and walked through the room and sat on the armchair to the left of her. "It's ok, that's what we're all thinking. Wondering what in the hell was the reason for him to get back with Vivienne. I'm Morgan by the way."
He extended his arm to her and Marianne took it gracefully. "Marianne Blake."
"Oh I'm aware, I've seen you everywhere. You seem to have a pretty good handle on the two of them. Especially Vivienne, it is interesting how she actually listens to you. A woman, who is responsible for dealing with their relationship."
Marianne sighed. "Not anymore it seems. Those days are over. The both of them have gone off to happy land and forgotten about the ethics of it all."
Morgan leaned back in the chair. She got a look at the fact that his muscles strained his slightly unbuttoned shirt. To say that he was attractive would be an understatement. He had stubble on his defined jaw and his hair was slicked back. His eyes were dark and mysterious and she could see from where she was that he had dark full eyelashes and nice eyebrows. Although she was not looking to get into a relationship, she definitely found herself sitting up straighter. He looked to be straight out of a magazine. It was kind of unfair.
And then Morgan laughed, and Marianne was floored. Even his laugh was sexy.
"So what brings you here Morgan? Need some advice?"
He hummed and rubbed his chin. "I do actually." he also sat up.
Marianne looked around to grab her notepad and got settled on the couch, giving him a look letting him know that she was ready for anything. He smiled at her and cleared his throat.
"Well, I have this friend. I've known him all my life and I really just want the best for him. We grew apart at some point and only recently got back into touch when I realized that he was getting married and I was so happy for him. So I came to his wedding, which is being held all the way in Bali for your information, really far away from where I live. And now that I'm here I realized that the person he is so in love with is a toxic, no good, problematic woman who clearly seems to have only selfish intentions and I'd rather not see my childhood friend suffer in the future. Even more than he is doing now. So what should I do?"
Marianne let out a laugh and rested down her notepad, she definitely didn't need to take notes for this. "Well, it seems like your friend may be so blinded by love that he is not doing the right thing for her and himself."
Morgan rubbed his chin. "Or maybe the girl's pussy is just good."
Marianne choked out a laugh and covered her face. "Oh goodness, I didn't see that coming!"
He laughed as well. "I don't see any reason why he's doing this. Could this be a problem with his childhood or something? Does he have some underlying emotional trauma?"
"That, I don't know. Dylan does not want to tell me anything. I think he's avoiding the fact that he knows that what he's doing is wrong. Just for the comfort of being with Vivienne or something. I really have not cracked down on the real reason he's putting himself through it."
"Maybe Vivienne has some sort of dirt on him."
"Maybe." Marianne sighed. "But for now, I just need to get through to him. Because in no time he'll be back at my door begging me to help him break up with Vivienne and then I'll have to deal with it all over again."
"Are you helping them through their relationship? Or are you trying to get them to break up?" Moran asked.
"I'm trying to get them to break up. It's not healthy for them to stay together. But they will not listen to me." Marianne twirled her pen in frustration.
Morgan looked at her, she could not guess his expression but he seemed to be studying her. "I am grateful that there is someone who wants to genuinely help them. It seems like they are surrounded by people who use them for entertainment."
"Oh yeah, they seem to follow Vivienne since she is not the best judge of character it seems."
"Anyone who is willing to follow her and shower her with compliments is automatically friends with her." Morgan rolled his eyes.
"Dylan’s friends seem to be the ones coming to me for help on their relationship. I just tried to leave the other day because I was frustrated but they begged me to stay. It's good that you guys have his best interests in mind."
"Because we know he's a good person who deserves good things."
Marianne smiled. She was glad that there were good people out there, who would go out of their way to try and make sure that Dylan had his happy ending. And that made Marianne feel bad for not wanting to try as well. Although she was tired and frustrated, she had never given up on a couple and so she would not give up on Vivienne and Dylan, not until they gave up on her. She would try her best to get them to break up, even if it killed her.
"Thank you, Morgan."
"What for?" he asked.
"For getting me to realize that I was being selfish." Marianne smiled, feeling a bit shameful. "But after this conversion, I am ready to get back out there and help them out. I was kind of hiding in here if you could not tell."
"I can't pick between the mention of Vivienne’s ability at sex or the feet up that gave it away." he flashed her a charming, heart-melting smile and Marianne could not help but swoon.
With a big sigh she leaned back on the couch. "But not for today. I'm done thinking for the day."
Morgan put his elbow on the armrest and leaned his head on his arm, watching her. Marianne’s heart malfunctioned for a moment.
"What?" she asked.
"Nothing. Just wondering if you're hungry." he murmured.
"Food?" Marianne thought. "Yeah, I'm hungry."
"Great. Then I can cook you something."
Her heart skipped a beat at his words and her eyebrows raised. "You can cook?"
"Well I am a chef." he smiled.
"Wow. You are the total package." she said shamelessly and got off the couch. "Are you single?"
He waited until she walked out from the couches before stepping out himself. "I am."
Marianne turned her head in shock. "Liar."
"I am." he insisted.
"Mmm hmm, sure."
