Chapter 61: The Last Dance of a Princess

Chapter 61: The Last Dance of a Princess
KAEL

I have always thought it weird that I found myself more comfortable with Isabelle than I ever was with Talon, even way before I knew how cunning and cruel he was, but now I know, it is because there was never any need for us to fraternize because we are not even related by a single pint of blood.

The crowd breaks into a frenzy, everyone trying to run for their life. My Father sits with shock as if he cannot comprehend that he has been fathering another man's son for years.

Talon, in his changed form lunges towards me or rather my wife, and I do not hesitate but jump between them . It is like I am an invisible wall protecting the woman I love from any harm that may come from my beloved brother. Sarcasm intended.

I feel his claws dig through the fabric of my shirt as if they could go straight through my flesh and rip the heart right out of my chest.

"You've always liked to stick your nose where it does not belong, brother," he snarls.

"Is this why you asked for Alvin because he helped you build the daggers?"

"Now is not the time for question, brother. You are too smart for your own good, and that is what will get you killed." His claws dig to my neck but I manage to glance at my wife.

"Run, Princess!" I say to her. I see her grab Isabelle and start to escape with the other guests. She will be fine, I say to myself.

"I should have killed you when I had the chance," Talon says, his claws still digging into my neck.

"Your plans had loopholes, Talon." I manage to croak out. "You drugged me that day, didn't you? You sent Alvin to my home to make it seem like he escaped when in fact you released him yourself, then you come back to me to ask me to give him back to you so it seemed like you had no idea where he was or how he managed to escape."

Talon smirks. "My mother is a genius, you know. She told me to take you under my wing and by so doing I'll get to know your weaknesses. Well, I guess she was right. Ten years of selling crack and I think I've figured you out just fine."

"You were never wise on your own, Talon. You have no idea that your mother is using you for her own selfish reasons."

I am stalling time, building up my defense. Carla says my rage is my strongest weapon, it would either break me or make me, all of that is up to me. For the first time since my mother took me to Carla, I appreciate her teaching.

Rage.

"You know nothing!"

My claws are extending and when I see that he is distracted a bit, I push him off of me. His grip slips for a few seconds but I quickly grab hold of his collar and throw him against one of the pillars supporting the roof. The impact causes it to shake, a small avalanche of tiles cascading down around us.

I stand above him and glare down at him. He looks up at me with eyes that unlike mine, are empty, lifeless things, devoid of any human emotion. "You're wrong about me, brother. I know everything. All the little pieces and the puzzle and the whole picture."

The roles are reversed now, I have him pinned to the table, his wings flapping and smoke engulfing us both. I can feel the power pulsing in my veins, the power of a moon Lycan, I can crush him with just my bare hands but yet I do not. "Your mother kept your Klux chained for over a decade, she never allowed you to shift but then suddenly she decides to free you which automatically makes her your master and whatever magic you acquire from your victims would all be given to her. You cannot see it?! That she wants to rule instead of you?! Because what is a King without his magic?!"

"Let him go!"

Lola. I risk turning to look at her and my knees weaken at the sight. My hands loose its grip and in a swift movement Talon has me captive again. Jada has the crested knife to my Father's throat but the other sight is Lola holding my wife with a gun pointed to Lilac's head.

Not Lilac. What Carla never told me, was that this girl would be my undoing.

"Don't touch her!"

Jada laughs. "You spent too much of your time talking while Lola found your wife where she was hiding."

"I was not hiding, you sick woman!" Lilac spits out. She looks fierce for a woman, glaring murderously at Jada.

"The human speaks." Jada is laughing again pressing the dagger more deeply to my father's throat. Why the fuck is he not doing anything?! Jada notices my gaze and she laughs. "Oh,you are wondering why your dear Father won't move? That'd because I poisoned him, and I am drawing out his magic in the most beautiful way possible."

"Why are you doing this?" My gaze is fixated on her but my brain is thinking of a number of ways to get Lilac out of danger.

"You should kill him, son. He is not needed in the end anyway." Jada says to Talon.

"You said I will take his magic, that's why we cannot kill him yet!"

"Oh, is that so? Too bad, because his magic is no longer needed, now kill him!"

"Not on my watch!"

It is a blur, what happens next. Lilac kicks at Lola's legs and then make to grab the gun from her. I think Jada slashes at my Father's neck and he falls to the ground, lifeless. Talon releases me with a thud, I sprint out of the way to get Lilac.

"Kael!"

It is the dagger that wisps past my face barely missing my eye and embedding itself right where it shouldn't be. My wife's abdomen. Blood is pouring out of her, she falls to the ground clutching her stomach.

"NO!!" I scream, stumbling on my feet as I reach for her.

Lilac is crying as tears stream down her cheeks, her mouth gurgles, and I kneel next to her to try and stop her bloodflow.

"Princess, please... Do not die on me!"

I hear Jada's maniacal laugh behind me , Talon's cackle. I can feel the heat radiating off Jada's breath as she approaches me, she must have been standing directly behind me all along. "You killed her. You brought her into this mess."

"Shut up!" I yell, my voice cracking. I don't care anymore, I don't care about anything except Lilac. I pull her close to me, cradling her in my arms. Her blood is soaking my shirt.

"You should die too, and then I can rule Lycania like I have always wanted to."

"Do you know how long it has taken me, to plan all these? Right from your mother's death, down to this moment. Ambition leads to decisions."

"You said I will be King, Mother. What are you talking about?" Talon says, confused. Idiotic bastard, he still does not realize that he is just a pawn in Jada's games

"Calm down son, You should be quiet when the elders are talking."

Every time wasted is bringing Lilac closer to the brink of death. She needs to be alive. My hands press on her wound, I can feel her breath, so faint but it's there.

"She is going to die, there is no saving her." Jada laughs and then I see her point her pistol at me.

"Drop that gun, Jada!"

Carla!

"You are surrounded Jada, if you try anything funny you will loose your head this very moment."

Caulder! The Lyncs. I have never been more relieved to hear Caulder's voice than I am now.

Jada does not listen though, because she pulls the trigger. There are screams, shots.

"Jada!"

It takes a while before I feel the searing pain in my shoulder or even a while before I notice that Lilac has stopped breathing.

No. No.

"Let her go, Kael." Is that Carla? I an't think straight. All my senses go haywire. Rage courses through my veins. Everything is out of control. A feral growl slips from my lips and even with my injured arm, I gently lay my wife down and lunge at Jada. Two Lyncs are holding her hostage and also others are holding down Talon and Lola.

My shoulder should heal, but the bullet in it will not let it. I do not relent though and when I stand in front of Jada whose menacing look is fixated on me as she struggles from the Lyncs', I can only see one thing. I reach for her heart and plunge it out.

"Mother!"

"Stand down, Prince Kael."

I would gladly stand down because I killed her already just like she killed my Fated
