Chapter 51: The Fates
Chapter 51: The Fates
Lilac
I told Kael about the books and the dreams. I narrated the dreams and the entries of the book to him.
Trusting no one does not mean I cannot trust my husband, besides he is the only one I can rely on in all of Lycania. We go back inside without saying a word, although we are holding hands.
It is so strange how we moved from being total strangers to secretly leaning on each other in just six days, something we could not achieve in the four months that we have been married. Should I say I love the outcome of his memory loss? Or should I say I am scared of how he would turn out to be when the day breaks now that his memories are back? I hope he stays the same considerate caring listening Kael. I like this side of him. I fear the outcome of whatever this is. But little drops of water would eventually make a mighty ocean, right?
Apart from being scared, I am excited. Who gets excited over solving a murder case? Me apparently. I did not use to be like this, but having the assurance that Kael is with me throughout all of this is what is making me like this. What is that feeling of fully trusting someone, even to the point of death? I do not want to know. I also do not want to think about it. Living in the moment is what I have learned to do best since I lost my mother. Not dwelling on the past or thinking of the future. It is a bad habit, but it is a coping mechanism I have picked up over the years. One that had helped me especially when Nina and her daughter came into my family.
"Are you going back to sleep?" Kael finally speaks as we step back into the room, closing the door behind us. I stare up at him, and apart from the skeptical thinking look he has had on since I told him about the book and dreams, I see something else there.
"I should." I reply him.
He nods his head. "You should." But his tone is totally contrasting to his statement.
"You do not want me to?"
He sighs and releases my hands, then goes to sit at the edge of the bed leaving me standing and watching him with a confused gaze. "You know about my mother's death. I still do not know how that's possible. How can you dream of something you were not even a part of?"
"I am as confused as you are, Kael." I say to him, walking closer to his side with ginger steps because I do not know how he would react. But as if on cue, Kael reaches for my hands once a few inches away, and he pulls me into his lap. I gasp at the impact.
"Don't squirm princess, I do not want nurse a boner while trying to think of the matter at hand."
I gasp again at his raw words, this side of Kael is so new and it makes me... I smirk and decide to do exactly the opposite of what he had told me to do. I squirm, wiggling my toes as I move on his lap. What I hear next is a low vibrating grunt as his hands still on me. "I do not think you know what having a boner does to a man, do you, Princess?" His voice is low and gruff as he says those words, like he is trying so hard to prevent something. Why do I like the sound of that?
I have read a lot of books enough for me to understand what a boner does or maybe feels like but what I did not expect was the unexpected poking against my ass. Kael seems to sense my confusion because he says, "I told you not to move, Princess. Now see what you've done to me."
I stay quiet, blinking innocently. Is it weird that there is this fuzzy feeling in my chest at making him feel that way. "Now is not that time for this Princess, please." He mumbles, his fingers digging into my thighs. The act alone sends shivers of delight ripping through my spine.
"We need to talk about serious things. Where do you think I should start from, your dreams?"
I gulp, snapping myself from the heat of the moment. Focus, Lilac!
"When did they start?" He continues.
"What?"
"The dreams, when did they start?"
I sigh, racking my brain and looking back at the first time i had seen the basement. "It was a little after the beach murder case, the night of the day we had chicken nuggets." The night that started all this.
"And how many times have you had it?" Kael is asking me a question but his gaze is so far away, his piercing blue eyes gaze into the dim lit room looking into nothingness but yet it is as if he sees beyond.
"Three." I say.
"Three dreams. And the entries? How many were they?" He asks.
"Three enteries." I reply.
"Three is a very significant number." He finishes. Why does that sound so right and wrong at the same time. The number three, it is known to be a very special number and when I think deep into the classes I have had at Lupin, I realize one thing.
"The fates." Kael says exactly what is on my mind like he can read them. "Three is the number of the fates." And the Lycans believes in the fates.
"But does that have anything to do with the deaths? The fates definitely would not have anything to do with this right? Besides, three can also mean anything. It's not like that would show us the person who murdered them?"
"Of course. Nothing comes easily Princess, especially not the suspect of a murder case, or murder cases in this scenario." He replies. "But I only know one thing, the fates showed you the dreams and the entries for a reason, that's why there are three dreams and three enteries, all we have to do us find that reason and we might be one step towards finding the culprit too."
"We have to find whoever wrote the entries too, I think that person might know something about this?"
Kael nods. "That too."
"So what are we going to do?"
"What you are going to do now, is sleep. We would figure out whatever all this is about when day breaks, okay?" I want to protest, but the stern yet soft look he gives me is enough to make me quiet. And so I allow him lay me back, with his arms wrapped around mine and the subtle sound of his breath leading me into a dreamless sleep.
For now, there are no deaths nor dreams nor fear of the unknown, it will all be back when the day breaks and this time I have someone to hold my hands while I walk through.
