Chapter 79 Viral Moment
Writers POV.
"You think breaking me was enough?" Her voice was raw with emotion. "You think taking everything I built, every dream I had, every piece of myself I gave would make me disappear?"
The movie set was completely silent except for Dandelion's voice.
The camera was steady on her face. Tears trailed down her cheeks, but her eyes were blazing with something fierce.
"I survived you. That's what you can't stand. That after everything you did, all the ways you tried to destroy me, I'm still here. Still breathing. Still fighting."
She stepped closer to her scene partner, her whole body trembling with rage.
"So No. I won't be silent. I won't disappear. I won't make it easy for you." Her voice dropped to a whisper that somehow filled the entire soundstage. "I will survive. And that will be your punishment."
"Cut!" Director Diego jumped up from his chair, his face lit with excitement. "That's it! That's the one!"
The crew erupted in applause. Dandelion let out a shaky breath, coming down from the emotional high of the scene. Her co-star, Ethan, pulled her into a hug.
"That was incredible," he whispered. "You've got this role completely."
She hugged him back, feeling drained and excited at the same time. This film role had been therapy as much as work. Every scene where her character fought back against her abuser felt like reclaiming a piece of herself.
Director Diego approached her still beaming. "Dandelion, that was extraordinary. I've been directing for twenty years and I've rarely seen raw emotion like that."
"Thank you Director." Her voice was still hoarse from the scene. "This character means a lot to me."
"It shows." He glanced at his assistant director. "That's a wrap on principal photography, everyone! Thank you all for your incredible work!"
Everyone applauded. The crew started breaking down equipment while Dandelion headed to her trailer to change.
She pulled out her phone and saw messages from Lilian.
How's the last day going?
Call me when you're done! I want to hear everything!
Also Xavier is being impossible again but that's not new.
Dandelion smiled and typed back.
We just wrapped. I'm Heading home soon. I'll call later.
Home. The Graham Estate had somehow become her home in the past few months. Even with all the tension with Alex, it felt more like home than the Williams house ever had.
A knock on her trailer door interrupted her thoughts.
"Come in!"
Director Diego poked his head in, looking almost nervous. "Do you have a minute?"
"Of course. What's up?"
He came in fully, holding his tablet. "I know we're not doing any festival submissions until the full edit is done, but I showed that final scene to a curator friend of mine. From the Greenville International Film Festival."
Dandelion's heart jumped. "And?"
"She wants to see the full film. She thinks we have a real shot at getting selected." He turned the tablet toward her. "But there's something else. She was so impressed by your performance that she posted a short clip on the festival's social media. Just twenty seconds. I hope that's okay."
"What? When?"
"About an hour ago." He pulled up the post. "And It's already getting a lot of attention."
Dandelion took the tablet. The clip showed the ending scene of her monologue, the part where she whispered "I will survive. And that will be your punishment."
The post had eight thousand likes already. And the comments were exploding.
Who is this actress? This is incredible.
The emotion in her eyes is haunting. I need to see this film.
Wait, is that Dandelion Williams?
OMG it IS her! I thought she quit acting?
This is Oscar-level work. Seriously.
I don't care about her scandal. THIS is pure talent.
Dandelion's hands started shaking. "This is....going viral."
"I know. I'm sorry, I should have asked first. But honestly? This is the best publicity we could hope for." Director Diego smiled. "People are already demanding to know when they can see the full film."
She scrolled through more comments, her vision blurring slightly.
After everything she went through, she channels it into THIS? Respect Mutherrrr.
Can we talk about how she made me cry in 20 seconds?
Directors need to be lining up to work with her. This is insane.
Dandelion Williams comeback of the century.
"I need to sit down," Dandelion managed to whisper.
"Take your time. And Dandelion?" Director Diego called gently. "Thank you for trusting me with this role. You brought something special to it. Something real."
After he left, Dandelion sat in her trailer staring at the tablet. The likes kept climbing. Fourteen thousand. Fifteen thousand. The comments multiplied by the second.
Her phone rang. Lilian.
"OMG Have you seen it?" Lilian screamed before Dandelion could say hello. "Have you seen what's happening?"
"I'm looking at it now."
"Dandy, you're trending!, I had to sneak into the waiting room to see this, The clip is everywhere! Entertainment sites are picking it up, people are making reaction videos, everyone is talking about your comeback!"
Dandelion's throat tightened. "Is this real?"
"It's so real. And it's exactly what you deserve." Lilian's voice softened. "You poured your heart into that role. People can see it. They can feel it."
"But I'm scared."
"I know. But this is good scared. This is your-career-is-about-to-explode scared, not your-life-is-falling-apart scared."
Dandelion laughed, tears streaming down her face. "When did you get so wise?"
"I've always been wise. You're just noticing."
They talked for a few more minutes before Lilian had to go handle another Xavier crisis, he seems a bit clingy now with the way he gets irritated if she left for too long.
Dandelion changed out of her costume and headed to the car Walter had sent for her.
On the drive back to the estate, she couldn't stop refreshing the post. Ten thousand likes. Fifteen thousand. Twenty thousand.
The entertainment world was waking up. And they were remembering why Dandelion Williams had been the top actress in Greenville before the scandal.
....,...............
Back in the Williams Estate, Mildred was having a very different reaction.
She had been scrolling through social media when the clip appeared on her feed. At first, she had kept scrolling, not caring about some random indie film.
Then she saw the comments. She saw Dandelion's name.
"No," she whispered, clicking on the video.
Twenty seconds later, she threw her phone across the room. It hit the wall and cracked, falling to the floor.
"No, no, no!" She grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.
This couldn't be happening. Dandelion was supposed to stay down. Stay quiet and ruined.
Not come back with a performance that people were calling Oscar-worthy.
Mildred's own recent film had barely made a splash. Critics called it "competent but forgettable." Her performance was described as "adequate."
And now Dandelion, with one leaked clip, was getting the kind of praise Mildred had dreamed about her entire career.
Malcolm appeared in her doorway. "What's with all the screaming?"
"Look!" She pointed at her broken phone. "Look at what that witch did!"
He picked up the phone, squinting at the cracked screen. His expression darkened as he watched the clip.
"Well," he said slowly. "That's not good."
"Not good? It's a disaster!" Mildred paced the room. "She's coming back, Malcolm. And everyone is acting like she's some kind of victim turned hero."
"Calm down."
"Don't tell me to calm down! My entire career is based on being better than her. What happens when she's back on top and I'm still struggling for decent roles?"
Malcolm set down the phone, his jaw tight. "We need to tell Mother."
They found Margaret in her office, reviewing financial reports. She looked up with irritation when they burst in.
"What is it? I'm busy."
"Dandelion," Malcolm said. "She's making a comeback. A big one."
"What? I thought the scandal completely destroyed her career."
"It did. But she filmed an indie movie, and a clip just leaked. It's going viral." He pulled out his own phone, showing her the post. "People are calling it her redemption arc."
Margaret watched the clip, her expression getting colder with each second. When it finished, she set the phone down very carefully.
"This is a problem."
"You think?" Mildred snapped. "She's going to take everything! My roles, my reputation, everything I've worked for!"
"Not just your roles," Malcolm added quietly. "If her career comes back this strong, she'll have power and Influence again. And eventually, she'll remember that Williams Corp should have been hers."
That got Margaret's full attention. "What are you saying?"
"I'm saying we disinherited her based on a scandal that's been exposed as abuse. Public opinion is shifting in her favor. If she decides to challenge the inheritance with a good lawyer, she might actually win the case."
The room went silent.
"She wouldn't," Margaret finally said as if trying to convince her own self. "She's too weak and soft."
"The woman in that clip didn't look weak," Malcolm argued. "She looked angry and determined. Like someone ready to fight back."
Margaret stood up, walking to her window.
"What do we do?" Mildred asked.
"Let's hope she stays focused on her acting career." Margaret turned to face them. "If she's busy rebuilding her reputation in entertainment, she won't have time to think about the company."
"And if she does think about it?"
Margaret's eyes hardened. "Then we remind her exactly why she lost it in the first place. We'll look for ways to make her life difficult if she gets too ambitious."
"And we need to find new allies, since Chase is now useless." Margaret's voice was cold.
And for the first time, she wondered if they had made a terrible mistake by underestimating Dandelion.
