Warm embrace (18+)
Seraphina stood in the doorway of Darius’s chambers, the dim light of the sconces flickering behind her like nervous shadows. Her breath caught as she stepped inside, her heart hammering louder than her footsteps, a frantic drum against the lingering memory of Cassian’s bruising kiss.

The thought of what lay ahead, of surrendering herself to another Alpha, particularly to the enigmatic Darius, filled her with a potent mix of anticipation and dread.

Darius was already standing, as if he’d been waiting—not impatiently, but watchfully, his dark eyes unreadable in the low light. His simple tunic was unlaced at the throat, revealing a hint of his powerful chest, dark hair tousled like he’d run his hand through it too many times. He was a silent, imposing figure, his presence filling the space with a potent, contained power that made her acutely aware of her own vulnerability.

She stopped just inside the threshold, suddenly unsure. The soft click of the door closing behind her, sealed by an unseen hand, made her flinch. The sound was a stark reminder of the intimacy that awaited, of the choices she had made.

He noticed. His gaze, steady and piercing, seemed to see past her gown, past her forced composure, into the very core of her apprehension.

“Are you certain, Seraphina?” he asked, his voice quiet, not a whisper, but the kind of stillness that calmed storms, that held the world at bay. It was a question that offered an escape, a quiet acknowledgment of the weight of her choice.

Seraphina lifted her chin, a gesture of defiance against the fear that fluttered in her stomach, even though her fingers trembled where they clutched the precious fabric of her gown. “Yes,” she managed, the word a fragile commitment.

But her voice cracked on the syllable, betraying the uncertainty that still gnawed at her. The residual terror from Cassian’s assault, the haunting image of the messenger’s fate, mingled with the potent unknown of Darius himself. She was scared, a deep-seated fear born not of weakness, but of the immense power dynamics at play, the relentless demands of the North, and the secrets she now carried.

Darius didn’t step closer. He didn’t offer a smirk or a challenge, like the other two might have, using her fear against her. He didn’t ask again, didn’t pressure her with repeated inquiries. He simply stood, a monument of patience, allowing her the space to breathe, to decide, to choose freely.

Instead, he reached up, his movements slow and deliberate, and unfastened the single silver pin at his collar. It wasn’t a gesture of undressing, not yet, but a symbolic act of softening, of letting go of the rigid control he usually maintained. The pin, a simple, unadorned piece of hammered silver, clinked softly as he set it on a nearby table.

“You don’t have to give me anything, Seraphina,” he said, his voice a low, resonant rumble that seemed to fill the very air around them. “Not your loyalty. Not your body. Not even tonight.”

His words were a startling reprieve, a stark contrast to the possessive demands she’d come to expect from the Northern Alphas. It was an offer of true choice, and in that moment, she understood the profound difference of this man. He was not just physically strong; he possessed a terrifying mental strength that allowed him to offer true freedom, a dangerous gift for a woman who thrived on control.

She looked at him then, really looked—at the quiet patience in his eyes, at the steadiness of his breath, at the way his fingers curled loosely at his sides, not reaching for her, not asserting. He was waiting, simply waiting for her to move, to choose him.

And still, she moved closer. Her decision was not born of desperate calculation or fear, but a strange, compelling pull towards the enigma that was Darius. He had seen through her, yet offered her grace. He was the most dangerous, precisely because he did not play by the expected rules.

“I want to,” she said, her voice softer this time, more resolute. “I want to choose this. I want to choose you.” The words were a quiet declaration, not just to him, but to herself.

Darius inhaled sharply, a subtle, almost imperceptible sound, as if those words meant more to him than he expected, piercing through his carefully constructed defenses. It was a single, telling breath, hinting at the depths of his own concealed desires.

When she reached him, her hand rose hesitantly to his chest, resting just above his heart. She could feel it—strong and fast, a powerful rhythm mirroring her own. His skin was warm beneath the fabric of his tunic, his muscles taut and solid.

He didn’t move until she did, until her fingers pressed lightly against him, a silent invitation. When she leaned up to kiss him, it wasn’t urgent. It was slow, uncertain, trembling, an offering rather than a demand.

His lips were warm, waiting, but not demanding, not forcing. He let her take the lead, allowing her to set the pace, to claim him as she wished.
