Chapter 318 Henpecked Husband
Chapter 318 Henpecked Husband
Frederick's brow furrowed even tighter. "Go find her and see where she went."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Frederick fell silent.
Worried about Anya's safety, he couldn't sleep, so he simply grabbed his laptop to handle some work.
An hour later, when Xandra gently pushed the door open, she saw Frederick staring at his computer screen.
"You're awake?"
Frederick made a sound of acknowledgment but didn't say much.
Xandra studied his expression and noticed he didn't look like he'd just woken up.
"Honey, you haven't slept at all, have you?"
Frederick's hands paused slightly. He looked up at her and didn't hide it.
"I just called Anya, but her phone was off. I'm a bit worried about her."
So it was because of Anya that he couldn't sleep!
Xandra remained silent.
Frederick put the computer aside and reached for her hand.
"Honey, don't overthink it. I see Anya as a sister. Her brother asked me to take care of her before he died. I can't break that promise."
Xandra nodded. "I understand. I won't overthink it."
That's what she said, but she felt a bit worried inside.
She wasn't worried that Frederick would develop feelings for Anya. What worried her was that Anya might use this favor to stir up trouble from time to time.
And Frederick couldn't just ignore her...
"Want to come up and sleep for a bit?" Frederick asked.
"I'm not tired."
"Then come sit with me while I work?"
Hearing this, Xandra gave him a reproachful look. "You're still working? Didn't the doctor give you discharge instructions? You haven't fully recovered yet. You need more rest and can't overwork yourself. Do you miss the hospital bed that much? Want to go back and stay a few more days?"
Listening to her nagging, Frederick's lips curved slightly. "Honey, wherever you are is my home. I suddenly realize the hospital disinfectant smell wasn't that bad."
Xandra rolled her eyes at him. "Then why were you in such a rush to come back?"
Frederick said, "The hospital bed was so small. How could it be as comfortable as the bed at home? Honey, I was thinking of you."
Xandra forced a fake smile. "I'm so touched!"
Frederick laughed and pinched her cheek. "You could make that smile even faker."
Xandra swatted his hand away and deliberately put on the fakest smile possible.
Frederick chuckled. "Really not coming up to sleep for a bit?"
"No, Mom said she'd bake me cookies. I'm going to check on her."
She kept calling her "Mom," which made Frederick a bit jealous.
"Didn't you just leave Mom? Why do you need to find her again?"
Xandra pulled away his hand. "I'm worried that staying here would make you uncomfortable."
Frederick raised an eyebrow. "Why would I be uncomfortable?"
"What do you think? Married couples should maintain some distance."
After saying this, Xandra turned to leave.
Frederick watched her and threw out a line, "Honey, I don't want distance from you. I want to be perfectly fitted together with you!"
Another subtle innuendo.
Xandra paused, glanced at the time, and deliberately scolded him. "I'm warning you, I'll come back in twenty minutes. If you're still working then, I'll be really mad!"
His bossy wife was so fierce!
Frederick watched her retreating figure and chuckled softly, then picked up his laptop to continue working.
Soon after, Donald called.
"Mr. Flores, I found Ms. Bellamy. She's out shopping."
If Anya was shopping, that meant she was fine.
Frederick felt a bit relieved. "Okay, got it."
"Mr. Flores, should I have Ms. Bellamy take the call?" Donald asked.
"No need."
"Alright."
On the other end, Donald hung up and walked toward Anya.
Anya was looking at him. "What did Ray say?"
"He didn't say much."
Donald paused, noticed her unhappy expression, and added, "Mr. Flores is still quite concerned about you."
Anya shook her head. "No, he's changed. Ever since he got married, he's no longer the big brother I knew. Now he's so infatuated with Xandra that he can't think straight. I'm really sad and feel it's not worth it for him."
Donald hesitated for a moment and asked, "Ms. Bellamy, do you have feelings for Mr. Flores?"
Anya's eyes flickered. She took a breath. "Yes, I do admire him. He's such an outstanding man. If you were a woman who spent years by his side, wouldn't you admire him too?"
Thinking of Frederick's background and talents, Donald did agree with Anya's words.
A man like him, blessed by heaven, would indeed be hard for women not to fall for.
But...
"Ms. Bellamy, admiration is one thing, but Mr. Flores is married. If I were you, I'd wish him well."
Anya's chest heaved, her voice rising. "If Xandra were a good woman, I'd naturally wish him well. But Xandra isn't a good woman, understand? A woman like her doesn't deserve Ray at all! She got pregnant before marriage and had three children with another man. Sooner or later, she'll cheat after marriage too. I feel bad for Ray!"
Seeing her agitation, Donald quickly said, "I understand. Don't get upset. I think Mr. Flores understands you too. Let me take you back now."
Anya took a breath to calm herself. "No need. I want to shop some more. You go ahead with your work. Don't worry about me."
Donald looked at her for two seconds, seeming to want to say something but changing his mind.
"Just don't turn off your phone again. We'll worry about you."
Anya didn't respond, watching Donald leave as her fingers clenched.
She had deliberately turned off her phone.
As a woman, she could sense that Donald might have feelings for her.
So when he came to find her this morning, she deliberately made herself look haggard.
The purpose was to use him as a messenger to let Frederick know she wasn't doing well.
Sure enough, Donald didn't disappoint her.
He played the messenger role.
And Frederick didn't disappoint her either. He called her when her phone was off, and even sent Donald out to find her.
This showed Frederick still cared about her.
As long as he still cared, that was good.
As a woman herself, she didn't believe Xandra could remain indifferent seeing her husband constantly concerned about another woman.
As long as Xandra felt uncomfortable about it, she'd succeeded!
Meanwhile, at Frederick's villa.
After hanging up, he continued working.
Soon, he faintly heard footsteps outside.
Thinking of something, he glanced at his watch.
The twenty minutes his wife had stipulated were up.
He quickly closed his laptop and lay down.
The movements were smooth and practiced. Looking at the ceiling, he couldn't help but smile.
He was totally under his wife's thumb now!
And he was enjoying it.
At the door, Xandra gently turned the doorknob and peeked inside.
Seeing Frederick lying down, she stared at the bed for two seconds, then quietly withdrew.
Frederick on the bed slowly opened his eyes. Thinking about the bit of work he hadn't finished, he wanted to get up and wrap things up.
But just as he sat up and opened his laptop, the door was opened again.
