Chapter 140

Chapter 140
Asher,

“YOU fucking idiot, why didn’t you say you were hurt? Skylar wasn’t going anywhere,” he said. Yes, he was pissed.

“It’s not about that. Every day that I was gone, Eli, she was the one that gave me strength. I’m still alive because of her. If that had happened to me before I had met her, when I woke up on that island hurt, I would have stayed there and accepted death. She’s my life, Eli. Every single second, all I thought about was her and finding a way back to her.” He let out a sigh and sat down in the chair.

“She refused to believe you were dead, even though that was the official statement. The minute she found out, she started searching,” he said.
“I knew she would.”

“No, Rhys, you don’t. For the past eighteen months, at the end of every month, four choppers searched for you, expanding with every search,” he said, and I kept looking at him.

“What?”

“She refused to believe you were gone. When Adriel was born, Freya and Lana were with her. Lana cried that day because she said Skylar broke, that the possibility that you were really gone hit her, but it didn’t last for long. That very month, she went back to searching. She wouldn’t have stopped searching for you, Rhys, ever. She handles Azure like she was built for it. Samuel and Leon are always beside her, and so are Miles, Freya, and Chris. They are always there for her. We visit often, as do Mathew and his family, Mateo and Lana. She didn’t task us to help, but we did because we saw that determination in her, the same way you are. She treated us like family; she could have forgotten about us, but no, she always wanted us there. That girl would have set the world on fire to find you, Rhys; she would have. You better treat her right, Rhys, or I swear to God, we’ll fucking kill you,” he said.

“I won’t, Eli. Never,” I said. The door pushed open, and she walked in; her eyes were red. I tried sitting up, and she shook her head no. Eli stood up.

“I’ll leave you two alone. Who has Adriel?” he asked her.
“Freya and Hilda.”
“Okay, I’ll get in on the baby action. Liam and Miles are on the way, so is Grace, and they like to steal,” he said, then walked out.

She stood there looking at me, and she started crying. “Baby, you’re scaring me,” I said, sitting up. She came over to me and stood beside me.
“I love you so much. I heard,” she said through tears. I pulled her onto the bed and held her.

“I love you too, baby. I’m sorry I lied to you, but I went through it already; I didn’t want you to hear it too. I never gave up. The second Eli came, all I wanted was to see your face. That was what I needed; I didn’t care about the pain. All I thought about was being next to you. You didn’t stop looking for me.”
“No. I would have never stopped,” she said.

“Freya and Chris got married. I’m sorry, but I didn’t want everyone putting their lives on hold because of us,” she said.
“Does he treat her right?” I asked.
“The same way you treat me,” she said, smiling.
“Then that’s all I want.” The door opened, and Freya and Chris walked in.

She stopped and looked at me and began crying. “Jesus, you’re alive,” Chris said.
“Yes, now get my sister to stop crying.”
“Can’t stop her. Sky, he’s with Lana and Olivia. Well, they’re drawing straws to see who gets him first,” Chris said, rolling his eyes.

The door opened, and Miles walked in. He looked older, more mature somehow. He stood looking at me. “Sky, move aside so I can personally strangle him,” he said. Liam walked in. “Let him be,” he said to Miles.

“Fine. Asher Rhys, the next time you go anywhere without security, I’ll personally strangle you, and no one will stop me.”
“Okay, Miles,” I said quietly. After they all checked me over, and I assured them I was fine, they left. We were alone; she was sitting beside me, holding my hands.

“There was a point when I was scared, terrified that I would die right there, and I would never see you again,” I said, squeezing her hand.
“I never gave up. Even if you were gone, I needed to find you. I wanted to find you. I prayed every day for your safety, Asher,” she said quietly.
“Did Samuel find anything?” I asked, because I knew she would have looked into it.

“No, and that worries me because we couldn’t find any clue. I never left Havenwood after that because I was scared and worried. I have been protecting Adriel from the minute he was born. The public doesn’t know what he looks like or what his name is. I was two months along when I told Miles and Freya. They got Hilda to work for me. She’s an angel. Adriel is Samuel’s priority,” she said.

“You did good, love. I’m proud of you. I promise I’ll be here for the next one,” I said, waiting for her reaction.
“Haha, yeah right, nope,” she said.

Skylar

He spent one month in the hospital, and he was pissed off every day because he tried leaving, and Benning told him he would call me. I went to see him every morning and afternoon. I spent most nights with him. Freya and Chris took Adriel sometimes, and so did Miles and Chris. I was in his room going over some papers, and he was giving me his signature look.

“Asher, stop staring at me.”
“The minute Benning clears me, I’m locking you up for a week and putting another kid in you,” he said, which made me drop the papers. I

looked at him, and he smirked at me. The door opened, and Dr. Benning came in.

“So, I have your latest results, and you can go home. The damage to the small intestine wasn’t much, just the wound itself. No infection, anything,” Benning said, and I looked at him, and he smiled. Oh, shit, I was in trouble. When we got him home, he went straight for his son. Miles handed Adriel to him. I left them and headed to the kitchen. I turned around and stopped.

“Thank you, Miles. I knew you would be here for her. You have no idea how relieved I was to see you. No matter what I give you, it won’t be enough compared to what you’ve done for her and our son. If you ever need or want anything, if you ever need help, I’ll always help without question,” he said.

“I know. Speaking , I have a problem. Neither Liam nor Skylar knows. We’ll talk about it later. I’m taking Adriel with me. You and Sky need some alone time,” Miles said, and I ran. I fucking ran because Asher would live up to his promise and get my ass pregnant again.
