Chapter 27

Angel

We made our way outback to the pool. Josh was kind enough to let me out before them where I went to snag a beach chair next to the pool. One of the back double doors that Josh had opened came to a soft snapping close behind them, then they too found a beach chair next to me. Scooting closer so we were only a few inches apart.

They leaned over their legs, their eyes on me. Their elbows rested on their knees as their hands came to an interlocked clasp in the empty space between their legs. Their silky slacks bundling up at the crotch after they had sat down and leaned forward.

This go round, as my eyes looked them over, I hinted at the visible cleavage that was revealed behind the open few buttons of their button down.

Suddenly, a soft whistle caught my attention causing for me to jerk my head, my eyes meeting with Josh's eyes in an instant.

"Eyes up here hermosa."

They gestured toward their eyes with two fingers as a gentle, playful smirk printed upon their lips slowly. Intoxicating it was alone.

"We have to behave ourselves; I don't need boss putting my head on a spike because I stole their woman. Even though, you're certainly difficult to resist..."

I blushed at their words as they left their tongue in a playful, delicate whisper. Almost as if they were indistinctively flirting while giving way to an obvious threat of themselves. How risky they are. Like Gray, so risky and without care. Then, just as the tension began to grow even more in the air, Josh cleared their throat.

"Now hermosa, I asked to speak in private because I have to fill you in on a few things."

"Am I going to die because I upset Gray?"

I cooed out suddenly, a half hearted playful grin on the line of my lips. I was half joking, and half not joking. Surely Gray wasn't so mad at me as to want to kill me now, they couldn't be. Though, with their status within our community it certainly wasn't something of the impossible. Love may conquer all, but anger and deceit could over power love within a thousand mile radius.

Josh only chuckled at my remark, a rhetorical question That definitely would not be getting much of an answer if not a short and subtle one. Then, they shook their head and parted their lips once more. Their thumbs rubbed together as their eyes stayed on my form before them.

"Today, we found out a spy amongst our ranks. They were sent by Cayla I'd assume some days ago if not months ago. Information we didn't manage to get out of her. So, it's needless to say that Cayla undoubtedly knows of your whereabouts darling."

Josh spoke slow, their feminine raspy voice returning to that of a knowing whisper. My brows raised as they spoke. Cayla was the last thing to come to mind when I sent to on this retreat. To be fair, I had suddenly forgotten about her existence all of today. Well the cast could have proved as a quick reminder, but that wasn't so.

I began to fiddle about with my own fingers nervously as my ears took in every word. The slow carefulness of how they spoke allowing every word to register in my brain.

"With that said, Gray has given order to increase and double up security. Trust me, even though Cayla may know you are here you are more than safe and can proceed with your vacation as if life is normal. I promise."

Even with Josh's words of reassurance and encouragement to proceed with my vacation as if things that certainly are not normal in my life currently, were normal. I couldn't bring myself to stop fiddling or shaking. Thankfully tears didn't build up this time. I was so fed up with crying, and needing a shoulder to cry on every two seconds, was not savory to my thoughts either.

Life, even though it had become far far more eventful, more so than it had ever been before. It also became depressing. It was evident to the saying, "there is danger under every rock, and behind every tree." That is what my life had become, sadly. And it was all thanks to meeting Gray, a woman that I could say without a doubt I was now in love with.

"Hermosa?"

Josh urged, bringing a hand over to grasp my own that had begun to fiddle and shake. "Thank you Josh, I'll keep all of that in mind, since that is all I can do. I'm sorry you guys have to risk your lives for a woman whose only come into this life months ago, and already I'm causing trouble."

"Don't fret little Angel, this is what we do. Risk our lives to protect our own, we are a family. So that means you and your own are part of the family to so we will do anything necessary to protect you. And really, Cayla is only a girl playing with her fathers money and men, she may seem like she knows what she's doing but she is way in over her head. It's only a matter of time before she realizes she has fucked shit over this time."

They grinned a toothy confident grin, showing off their pearly whites again. This time I noticed that both of their canines on the top row of teeth were silver. Something I failed to notice before in the kitchen. Grays team of people are all unique. A differentiate from one another in No than one way. Definitely personality wise. Not just from which part of the world they come from.

At first, I would have thought grays mafia was mostly Hispanic consuming, but every-time I looked around I'm always spotting someone new. For example, one of grays men who is considered one of the best is African, from which part I suspect Nigerian if I had to take a guess based off of the accent that I had only heard from a far that one time gray had been consulting with them in their kitchen back in the penthouse in New York.

Then there were a handful of French, Indian, Hispanics, Russians Germans even, and many more.

What a family they've built for themselves, it was quite the beautiful sight.

Josh

As I had led Angel Outback to the pool, and got her seated. I began to view her more and more as a woman rather than a girl really. The more she was around, the more I saw the reasoning for Gray becoming awfully smitten with her.

I say I began to view her more as a woman and less of just a girl, with two different perspectives because when I view a woman as a woman, I tend to see the maturity within her. The grown woman that resides within, the untamed beast that had been onlooking until it had been released. And a girl to me is just a young woman who hadn't yet matured or started in their prime of knowing.

She is far more aware, not taking this life that she now lives and knows as a joke. She see's the utmost seriousness of it and Isn't making a game of it. Angel knows that this is real, and tends to treat it as such. Really, it's been that way with her from the start, I'm only just now seeing it unlike gray who saw it way beforehand.

It was an interesting fact, but sad all at the same time. Sad because I couldn't have what I knew I'd begin to crave. I was playing a dangerous game the more I lingered around Angel, even if I am only to be her shield in danger. Her scapegoat, her protector and protecting hand.

If I were in Gray's shoes, I'd have already made her mine by now. She was beautiful, smart, cheery, something we needed every once in a while to see.

I cleared my throat before standing to my feet, sliding my hands into the pockets of my slacks.

"Alright, let's head back inside. I'm sure your mother might be looking for us by now."
