“Let’s get married, Gilbert,” Adriana attested once again with a very deep breathe while Gilbert on the other line, grin widely.

“Thanks for giving me another chance, Adriana. I swear I will make it up to you,” Gilbert bubbled while Adriana simply gritted her teeth   ended the call abruptly.

She looked out through the window, a tear came out of her eyes.
        

Few minutes later, Gilbert halted his car at the hospital premises and got down from the car, he was dangling his car keys happily as he walked into the building.

He went to the nurses on duty, “Please I would like to pay for Scott Georgia’s  surgery, can I get the payment done?” Gilbert demanded 

“Just a minute, sir,” The lady told him and went through the system then she narrowed her eyes, “It has been paid, few seconds ago,” The lady clarified.

Gilbert had a confused look on his face, “What did you mean it has been paid?” He blurted out while the lady simply nod.

“Yes. $200,000 for the surgery and $50,000 for when he’s ready to be discharged, weren’t you aware of this?” The lady exclaimed further, Gilbert blinked his eyelashes.

‘There’s only one person to do this’ he thought “May I please know who sent it? You know, I’m Adriana’s husband and I ought to know,” Gilbert asked hoping it’s not who he’s thinking.

“Oh, I will print out the receipt now, just wait for few seconds,” The lady answered him going to print out the receipt then right away she came back with a slip and handed it over to Gilbert.

Gilbert folded his fist and glowered when he saw the name on it, “Shit! Why did he freaking paid?  Mig-“ 

“Gilbert!” He heard his name from afar and when he looked up he saw Dora coming towards him, he instantly hid the receipt into his pant pocket.

Dora got close to him, “You don’t know how happy I was when I heard from Adriana that you already paid! Thank you so much Gil, You’re a true friend,” She mumbled happily with a wide smile on her lips.

Gilbert simply shrug his shoulders, “Hm, it’s nothing. What I hope for now is Scott’s survival. He’s in the operating room right?” He asked instead.

“Yes, yes, they should be done within an hour or so.” Dora told him then she sighted Adriana coming with a jug of water, “Adriana!” She called instantly and waved at her to come.

Adriana got to their place, “Thank you Gilbert, thanks to you my son will be able to live again,” Adriana appreciated with a warm smile.

“I’m glad I could be of help,” Gilbert retorted with a grin.

“Yes, when do we start to prepare for the wedding? Next week should be alright? Scott will be discharged within two to three days later,” Adriana chipped in and Dora almost choked.

“Wait, wait, what am I missing? What wedding? Adriana? What’s happening?” Dora sputtered while Adriana had this cold look on her face.

“It’s what you heard, we are getting married,” Adriana insisted and Dora grab her hand, Dora looked at Gilbert.

“I’m sorry but I have to talk to my friend right now,” She orders and pull Adriana away, to a corner.

Gilbert licked his lips as he watched the two walked out of his sight, he then pull out the receipt, “No one is going to find out as long as I keep it a secret,” He whispered putting back into his trouser.

“What are doing Adriana? Why are you suddenly getting married to him?” Dora snapped as soon they got to the corner.

Adriana shook her head, “No, I wasn’t suddenly getting married to him, we should have gotten married to him 5years ago anyways, It only felt right now,” Adriana blabbered.

Dora almost poke, “Did you even listen to yourself talking right now? You know what Gilbert is like! He cheated on you, have you suddenly forgotten about that?” Dora scolded feeling gagged about the whole thing.

Adriana rolled her eyes, avoiding tears, “I’m getting married to him and that’s final,” Adriana vowed and was about leaving when Dora held back her hand.

“I’m still talking to you, Adriana! Don’t do something stupid. I’m advising you as a friend, Gilbert is not worth it,” Dora refuted but Adriana took her hand away.

“I don’t care, i was left with no option, he was the only one who offered to help me. What do you expect me to do?” Adriana declared.

Dora suddenly feel provoked, “Then what about Miguel? Don’t you love him anymore?” She asked but Adriana went back to her in an instant.

“If you still want us to stay as friends, don’t ever bring out that guy’s name again. It’s irritating,” She snarled while Dora was taken aback.

“Adriana… what, what has come over you? You’re not like this! Is it about the payment? Come on, we can repay him-“

“Well, accept the new me. To me, my children comes first more than my heart, I will marry Gilbert, the earlier you accept it Dora, the best,” with that Adriana walked out on her.

“What’s wrong with Adriana?” Dora stood there wondering.
