Chapter 56: CHAPTER FIFTY SIX

Daemon's POV.

"I really messed up." I said as I walked to my room, hardly gone inside when I stopped in my tracks, "Maybe a little race would let us air the difference." I said to myself as I stood still, I walked to my wardrobe, switching into a simple cloth I could easily take off, I walked out to my bed, picked up my phone, and decided to send a text to him.

Me: We should go out for a race.

Damian: I'm a bit tired, I don't think I can. (tired emoji.)

Me: Come on! Let's just blow off some steam.

Damian: Fine, as long as I can clear my head.

Me: Sure. (Smiley emoji.)

I dropped my phone back on the bed, walking out of the room after a while of waiting.

"Knock!" I rasped once against his door, "You ready?" I asked as he opened the door, he nodded and walked out.

"Go on, I'll be coming." He said, I nodded and broke into a little run to the front of the pack house, he came out a little while.

"Ready for some trashing?" He asked, a light in his eyes, renewed hope, I'll call it, I laughed out loud as I took a jogging lead.

"First to the woods, decide on breakfast tomorrow." I shouted, but he only laughed and joined me. We got to the edge of the woods, and he came in a bit longer. I had already taken off my clothes, "Is this how you want to win the race?" I asked and transformed, my fangs baring as I dropped to all four, furs pouring out of my body as my bones popped and snapped as I shifted full, my ears standing up.

"That's the thrill." He answered, taking off his clothes, he transformed just as quickly, we growled and circled each other until we found a common ground, we turned to the woods, the breeze blowing across my fur, causing it to ripple.

"Hoot! Hoot!" an owl called in the distance, the perfect signal as we both sprinted at the sound, leaves slapping into my face.

"Awoo!" He called out to me, he had taken the lead, it was the normal training course, I sprinted over a rock to take a shortcut, appearing over the curve, I howled, he howled back, I was ahead, the breeze cool as I ran the course, he howled again, I noticed he was covering the distance between both of us, probably taken a short cut, I howl back, louder, to mock him.

"Not today brother." I said in my mind as we came around to where we started, only for me to see him appear closer to me, "He must have taken another shortcut, this cheater." I mutter inwardly, he crashed into me, sending both of us tumbling to where we had started.

"Cheater," I called out as we transformed to our human forms, stark naked, I walked to where I had kept my clothes, putting them back on, perspiration beginning to form on my body.

"I didn't cheat." He answered after he was done wearing his clothes, giving me a soft jab on my shoulders, "But, that was awesome." He said with a chuckle, "So, who won?" He asked playfully.

"I did," I answered jokingly, laughing as we walked along. It was nice to know we had overlooked the little fight we had gotten into because of the little exposure I had done. He left me in his room, stepping into mine, pulling my clothes, and dunking them into the laundry basket, I went straight to the bathroom, letting the water wash out my perspiration, the feeling like being born again as I felt my bones relieved, my mind opened to the different possibilities, I had forgotten how long I had spent in the bathroom.

I cleaned up and came out, scarcely finished putting on my clothes when Damian barged into my door, his face a mixture of emotions and he walked quickly at me, his face telling me that something had gone terribly wrong, and with the pent-up frustration on his face, it must be related to Anya. I stood still as his fist connected to my chin, throwing my head to the side, his left hand coming in a jab, jammed into my rib, I doubled over, the air wrung out of my lungs, I tried to catch my breath when he held the back of my head still with both his hands, sending his knees straight into my face.

"Stars skirted across my eye for a while before I realized I was on the ground trying to catch my breath, he climbed over me and held my head with one of his hands under me to hold me in place, I raised my hands in between us, covering my face from his blows, he kept on punching, some of his punches crashing to my hand to connect to my face, the pain almost as same as him hitting me directly as I tasted iron in my mouth, I must have be bleeding, some of his punching catching the outside of my head, a headache coming in as he punched, I thought my skull cracked.

His barrage of punches continued until I could feel the force lessen, he stopped when he got tired, breathing heavily, I could hear him over my own breath as he rolled over me to his knees and then to his feet, I stayed down, crunched in a fetal position

"I told you what you did on the balcony would have repercussions." He said, still trying to catch his breath over the word he said, "I gave you signals to not speak, but you refused to heed them, now, look what you've caused." He continued, gesturing to where I lay down.

"What happened?" I asked, the words gurgling in my mouth as I spoke, blood had filled my mouth.

"What else could happen?" He asked, almost screaming out, I saw my beta appear out of the shadow just behind him, I sign to him not to engage, and he nodded and moved back into the shadows.

"I don't know," I replied, raising my hands over my head.

"Anya had gone back to prison." He answered and plummeted into the seat close to him, I tried to turn my head to look at him, the pain shooting from it keeping me in place, "I told you, you would face the repercussions if anything happened to her." He continued, wiping his hair with his blood-free hand, I could hear him sniffle, almost like he was crying.

"I'm sorry," I muttered, my voice so tiny I would doubt if he heard me.

"You refused to listen to me, now see what your loose mouth has caused. Fuck;" he cursed loudly, then stood up, walked up to me, and whipped a kick into my stomach, I spit out the pool of blood gathered in my mouth, coughing. "Fuck!" He cursed again, then started to pace around the room, I just laid down, coughing, my chest on fire from that kick, he scratched his hair then stopped around where I was and turned away, banging the door hard as he left me on the ground.

"What could I have said that would make her move away, even return back to the cell that we have been trying to get her out of?" I asked myself, groaning as I tried to turn around, facing out the window, "Can't be what I said." I muttered, trying to convince myself what he had said was a lie as I lay in the pool of my own blood, my body trying to heal itself, I laid still hoping he was wrong.
