Chapter 57: CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN
Anya's POV
It's been a while since the incident happened, my stay in the prison had been a little bit peaceful, my nerve bracelet still stayed put on my wrist, the food, as bad as it had always been, but I wasn't hanging to the chains anymore, it was a good thing to be able to move freely, even if it was just in the confines of the small space I was imprisoned in.
"At least, the both of them would be doing well," I muttered to myself, stretching my compressed bones, I couldn't heal properly with the nerve bracelet blocking my werewolf gift healing gifts, I stood up, yawning widely, my arms outstretched to the sky while I expanded my legs, stretching them till I got to the little window, the panes dusty, but I could still tell the morning was still in its tender stage when I hear the gates open, Susanne standing outside the door, her little smile on her face, with food on the tray, my stomach rumbled on seeing the sight.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her, swallowing gulps of saliva down my throat as I watched the tray on her hands, steam pouring out, the aroma diffusing around the cell.
"You couldn't even say a good morning." She replied, still smiling, "That's a bad way to treat a visitor." She continued and set the tray of food where I do sit.
"There's nothing really good about the morning," I answered cynically and turned my face towards the window, my mood only alleviated by the aroma of the food holding me captive, being able to eat good food the last time I left made me want to jump on the food.
"At least, I brought food for you, good food." She stressed on the 'good food', "That should be enough to be one good thing the morning can be good about." She continued, standing away from where she had dropped the food.
"You never bring good things." I replied, walking to where she was, "Everything you have ever brought had sadness attached to you." I continued, staring her down.
"I've never ever brought sadness." She countered, meeting up to my gaze, "All I ever did was the right thing, exposing you for the fraud that you are." She continued, the air in the cell becoming heated up as we engaged in our war of words.
"Me? A fraud?" I asked, chuckling, "Like you never had ulterior motives for whatever you are doing right now." I continued, spitting out as I finished, "Whatever you've got planned wouldn't even smell fruition, If I am a fraud, I'd like to see the teacher get caught." I spat out.
"At least, I didn't get to sleep with my stepchildren, get my husband murdered." She replied with a sinister smile on her face, her words hitting me right in the gut, I could feel my eye twitch after she said it, "They were never yours in the first place, why fight for what's not even yours?" She asked, raising her shoulders and arms.
"They don't have to be mine, yet they don't want to be yours," I responded, chuckling softly I could tell it hit her hard with the way she flinched, stumbling on her weight, then stopped an arm's distance from me.
"Strong talk from someone who would be very well be spending the rest of her life in here, rotting and being forgotten, if not her head taken off her shoulders." She spat out, her tone venomous as she regained her composure.
"You're not sure of that." I retorted, my voice very low, it felt like a whisper, as moved away, my head bowed, she cackled, then walked closer to me.
"Prove it, if you feel it wouldn't happen." She said, scoffing as she stopped in front of me, "They'll forget about you." She raped out, her voice raking against my eardrums.
"No, they wouldn't." I replied, moving backward, the chains on the floor clanking as I stepped over them, my movements hindered by the wall, "No, they wouldn't." I repeated, she moved to where I was, her height towering over me as I dropped to a squatting position, hugging my knees, my resolved finished to keep on battling with her.
"I would make sure they do." She replied, sneering as she stood over me.
"Guard!" I called out, my voice almost choking from the suppressed emotions, shaking as I repeated the call, my dam almost due to burst, the warden came, it wasn't the main warden, just a guard posted on duty, a light-skinned female with a blond ponytail.
"Anything Ms?" She asked as she stepped into the cell, her eyes moving from me to Susanne and then back to me.
"Yes please." I answered, "Take her out of here." I answered, placing my head between my legs.
"You heard the lady, the guard said, "You'll have to leave, Susanne just laughed.
"I will." She answered the guard, "Bon appetit, Anya." She said I could feel a sly smile on her face, "Enjoy the rest of your life in your new home." She continued, I let my head remain on my knees, listening to both their feet recede far out of the cell when I hear the screeching of the door before it was banged close, catching the back of the guard just as they left, my cheeks streaked with tears, I lay my head to the wall, crying my heart out.
"Fuck this!" I cursed out when I was done crying, "I need to hold myself up." I muttered to myself, sitting upright when a familiar voice sounded, it seemed pretty familiar.
"You're pretty strong." It sounded, oddly cool and collected.
"Who's that?" I called out, surprised by the voice, it sounded distant and close at the same time.
"You don't need to know." It replied.
"Trying to be all mysterious here?" I asked jokingly, even chuckling when I said that.
"It doesn't matter." The voice replied, "I just have to give you a warning." It continued.
"Warning for?" I laughed, "As you can see, very possible I'll be spending the rest of my life here if my head doesn't roll off my shoulders I don't see what warning I would be needing to heed." I answered.
"Just listen to me." It said, by its new tone, I could tell it was irritated by my answer.
"Fine." I replied, "Go on with your warning." I continued, relaxing on the wall to listen.
"Avoid Susanne as much as you can, everything isn't the way it seems." the voice replied, the voice fading as it finished its sentence.
"Avoid Susanne? Everything isn't as it seems. I don't get you, explain further." I ranted, but silence prevailed, I rubbed my hands against the wall to find any crack where someone's voice could filter through, "Esmeralda, is that you? I know it's you, speak up." I called out, just the silence as it answered back to me, dull as always. I moved backward, the tray and food plates clattering as my foot went against it.
"Oh!" I exclaimed on remembering the food, the aroma enticing as my brain remembered it was there, I dropped to the ground, sitting crosslegged, taking the plate of food into my head.
"Avoid Susanne as much as you can." the words filter through my mind, and I stare at the plate of food in my hand.
"Ok, Susanne brought this." I muttered, rolling the plate around, "There's nothing else she could do." I continued my monologue, chuckling, "She's done everything she can do, exposing all my actions, there's nothing else she could do against me." I muttered, waving away the warning, "Nothing to fear." I said, muttering a silent prayer to the moon goddess in my mind before I devoured the food, leaving no piece remaining, patting my stomach as I was done, I relaxed back on the wall, letting my mind rest, seeing Susanne was enough trouble for one day.
