Chapter 55: CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE
Damian's POV
Daemon had come calling that we should have a race.
"Are you ready?" He had asked, prancing around my door, that was how I had seen it, like a wild animal, which I know was an attempt to ease my mood against him as we had gotten into a little argument earlier, he had already left a text to ask for the race. I informed Anya before leaving, she kept mute, deep in her own brooding, and scarcely walked out of the door when my beta, Alan walked out from the shadows, his color contrasting from the darkness as soon as he was out.
"Going somewhere?" He asked as soon as he was close to me, I nodded in the affirmative.
"Just a little run with my brother to settle some strained stuff." I replied to him, walking away, he followed silently for a while, "You don't have to follow me." I said, still walking away.
"I still have to watch over her?" He asked stopping in his tracks.
"Yes." I answered, "You know what to do, your orders remain the same." I answered him, stopping to look at him, he nodded.
"From the shadows." He replied, I nodded, and he turned away, disappearing into the darkness. I turn around to meet up with Daemon, and we raced, ending in a draw where I crashed into him, I walk into the room to find it empty.
"Anya!" I called out, entering into the different rooms and not finding her, coming out to collide with Alan, "Have you seen Anya?" I asked him, he nodded, "Where did she go to?" I asked him.
"She left the room, was heading out to call you when I found you coming back, I just followed you, 'cause I didn't know what to do in that situation, no one was coming to get her, she left on her in own accord." He replied, I nodded, my hand under my chin as I tried to think of where she must have gone to, my thoughts crossing on using her scent to find her when my eye caught a paper flipping on the bed, I picked it up, the writing on it belonging to Anya, it was short and read.
*I've decided to go back to prison, you don't have to look for me."
"No way, I muttered and folded the paper until it crumbled in my fist.
"Anything the matter?" Alan asked, concerned by the look on my face.
"Yes." I answered, pained by her leaving, "It's fucking Daemon's fault." I cursed out loud, throwing the pieces of paper into the air, "Fuck!" I screamed again, Alan moved backward, staring at me as I sat on the bed, my arms over my head, "I know what to do." I muttered to myself and made to move to the door when Alan blocked me.
"You're not in the right frame of mind now to go talk to her." He said, standing in front of me.
"I'm fine." I muttered, "I just need to see her." I replied, trying to skirt around him.
"At least, let me go with you, in case of an outburst, I can cover up for you." He countered, concern on his face.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," I replied, pushing him out of the way as I sped out of the room, my destination, her prison cell. I arrived all sweaty and smelly as I hadn't gotten the chance to freshen myself when I noticed her absence.
"Visitors aren't allowed here." The warden spoke up on seeing me.
"Do I look like a visitor?" I growled as I asked him, he flinched, stepping backward after losing his balance.
"You can do whatever you want." He answered, handing over his access card, I grabbed it from his hands, still growling, and he pulled his backward immediately, "What you seek, you might not find." He said coldly and relaxed deeply in his seat, I turned away from him, heading to Anya's cell, where I find her lying on the ground, facing upwards.
"Anya, what are you doing here?" I whispered, she turned to look at me, mirroring my question.
"What are you doing here, Damian?" She asked, moving into a sitting position, I swipe the card, opening the cell door.
"Come on, let's go, you can't be here," I replied, holding the cell door open as I laid my hands in front of her, she only stared at them for a while before she spoke.
"I can't leave with you, Damian." She answered, pushing herself further backward into the cell.
"Why?" I asked, she just kept mute, folding her hands around her legs, "Is it because of what Daemon told you had happened in the meeting room?" I asked another question.
"Partially." She answered.
"And what's the other reason?" I asked again.
"The same reason I've been trying to avoid the both of you." She replied and stood up, pacing the room, I step into the cell, and she stopped pacing the moment I stepped in, "Don't come closer." She almost ordered, holding her hand in front of her, I stop where I had entered.
"Don't tell me it's about us being Alphas," I said, staring deeply at her.
"It's exactly that reason." She replied, leaning into the wall, "Seeing that you guys had the upper hand in taking control of the pack, I had to rethink, I wouldn't want to be your stumbling block." She continued.
"You aren't any stumbling block." I answered, almost crying out, "Why do you have to do this?" I question her action, she kept mute, "If Daemon hadn't told you, would you have come back to this place?" I asked her, using my hands to gesture to the walls of the cell, my nose already prickled by its smell.
"More or less." She answered, turning her back against me, "Nothing you'll say is going to move me against my decision, it will be better if you leave me be." She continued.
"We can find a way to work this out," I said, trying to convince her.
"Guards! Warden!" She called out
"Don't do this," I said trying to move close to her when they came down to her cell.
"Please, take Master Damian out of here, I don't want to see him." She said, on hearing them come down, the Warden chuckled.
"You heard what the traitor said." He replied with a chuckle, hitting his baton on his palm, I turned towards him snarling, and he moved back a bit.
"She's no traitor." I barked at him, he scoffed and looked at the guards that had followed him, then stood still.
"Yeah, whatever." He replied.
"Is this what you want?" I turned to her, asking.
"Yes," she answered, still facing the wall.
"Fine, if that's what you want," I replied, turned away from her, the warden, chuckling as I passed through, bumping shoulders with him.
"Remember what I had told you?" He asked me mockingly, I stopped on my path, and the guards gave me space, "Did you find what you came to seek?" He continued, his facial features a mockery of my attempt to make her leave the cell, I turn away, the guards escorting me out while he locked the bar.
"You don't have to do this." I stopped and held on to the bar, an attempt to hang on to any strand of hope, but she kept mute still.
"My card, Master Damian." The warden spoke, holding out his hands to me, I drop the cards onto his hand and turned away, hearing them laugh as I walked away, my mind set on punishing one person, to throw my frustrations on him would be the best.
"Daemon," I muttered as I left the cell, my legs taking me to a place I knew deserved to meet it.
