Chapter 520 The Disappearing Star
Chapter 520 The Disappearing Star
Ash stood there, head down, refusing to spill the truth. Aurora, on the other hand, wasn't in any rush. She opened her mouth and shouted.
"Help! Somebody help me! He's trying to assault me!"
Her sharp voice pierced the air, and Ash jumped in fright. He quickly covered Aurora's mouth, pleading desperately.
"I'm sorry! Please stop yelling! If you keep this up, Eugene will kick me out for sure!"
Ash was currently hiding his true identity while traveling with them abroad. If Eugene kicked him out of the group, how could he stay?
Aurora blinked and pried Ash's hand away, speaking calmly.
"Tell me where Leonard is and take me to him."
"That's really not possible," Ash hesitated for a couple of seconds, trying to come up with an excuse.
Aurora's voice rang out again, even more desperate this time.
"Help! Murder! I'm going to expose you, I'm calling the police!"
"Okay, okay, I'll tell you!" Ash surrendered immediately, practically groveling.
"I'll tell you everything I know, just please stop yelling, okay?"
Seeing she had achieved her goal, Aurora didn't push Ash any further. She nodded slightly, signaling him to start explaining.
With a resigned smile, Ash began to recount everything.
It turned out that after Leonard discovered the border auction, he had someone get an invitation for him. The Brown family, being influential, had secured the invitation before they even left the country. The official event was set to start at midnight, so Leonard had arrived early at the auction site.
Hearing this, Aurora couldn't help but frown, feeling a strange unease. Everything seemed logical, but an auction that sold anything and everything? Wouldn't they scrutinize the attendees more? Didn't the mysterious organizer know Leonard would use his real identity?
Aurora tentatively asked, "How much did Leonard pay for the invitation?"
Ash looked puzzled. "He didn't pay anything. They just asked for his birth time, down to the hour, and some personal information. They said he got in through a referral."
Birth time down to the hour, personal information!
Hearing this, Aurora nearly blacked out. She slammed her hand on the table, furious.
"You've been with me for so long, don't you know you can't just give out your exact birth time to anyone?"
Ash flinched at her sudden outburst, shrinking back and mumbling a defense.
"But doesn't it need a medium to work? How could just a birth time be useful?"
Aurora's eyes darkened with frustration. Ash clearly didn't understand the gravity of the situation.
"Have you considered that when you step into that auction, you yourself become the medium?"
Ash's eyes widened as the realization hit him, but Aurora didn't give him a moment to process. She commanded directly.
"Tell me the exact location. I need to get there and save him!"
...
At the border auction.
The host had been building up the excitement, and the atmosphere was electric. Finally, the host introduced the first item of the night.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome our first item!"
"The infinite luck of a young girl! Let's see what it brings."
The room went dark, and when the lights came back on, Leonard's breath caught.
A young girl was tied up at the center of a ritual circle, her limbs suspended. She was unconscious, like a plaything.
The host excitedly introduced her.
"Isadora, a non-professional actress who became a famous star through live streaming in just one month!"
"Isn't that lucky? As usual, the fee for transferring luck is fifty thousand dollars."
"As for Isadora herself, the bidding starts at five thousand dollars! Please, place your bids!"
Yes, the items being auctioned were the missing celebrities from the entertainment industry!
Even though Leonard had mentally prepared himself, he was still shocked by the sheer madness of it all.
But what truly enraged him wasn't the auction itself, but the people in the audience.
Since it was the first item, everyone had high expectations. But when they saw what it was, they were disappointed.
An older woman raised her hand, her voice tinged with dissatisfaction.
"Why is it something like this? Just a minor celebrity. Why is it worth this price?"
The room filled with murmurs of discontent. The host, however, seemed to have anticipated this reaction. He smiled confidently.
"Who said Isadora's luck is in her career?"
The host pinched Isadora's cheek, a lecherous glint in his eye, his voice raspy.
"Look at this face. Would you believe she's thirty years old?"
He was selling Isadora's youth!
Realizing this, the bidders went wild, raising their paddles and shouting their bids.
"Six thousand dollars!"
"Ten thousand dollars! She's mine!"
Eternal youth was a powerful lure, especially for the older bidders. They were willing to pay any price for it.
Leonard felt a chill run through him, his head spinning.
Wait! Something was wrong!
He didn't have any bizarre requests like the others. How did he get in?
Remembering how he had given his exact birth time to Ash, Leonard broke out in a cold sweat.
Could it be that he was the prey all along?
