Chapter 519 Intense Unease
Chapter 519 Intense Unease
"Who are you, really?"
Leonard stared at the mysterious woman, desperate for an answer.
He was sure now she meant no harm. If she did, he would've been in trouble during the recent coin exchange.
The woman turned, gently raised her hand, and touched Leonard's black mask. She smiled mysteriously.
"I'm not telling you! But here's a hint: we met a long, long time ago."
Met before?
Leonard felt a wave of déjà vu. He was about to ask more when two attendants approached, dressed in sharp suits and white masks.
"Sir, ma'am, the auction's starting. We'll take you up now."
The auction venue wasn't fancy, just a regular setting. What stood out was that almost everyone wore black masks and robes, like a gathering of grim reapers.
A man in a white suit and mask walked onto the stage, holding a microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our border auction!"
"As you know, our auctions usually feature rare items, but this year is different!"
"This time, we have twelve items! Bid to your heart's content."
"Highest bidder wins!"
His words hit the crowd like a bombshell, and the people in black erupted in excited shouts.
"Twelve items! This is so exciting, I can't wait to start bidding!"
"Hurry up! I can't stand it anymore! It's rare to have so many items this year!"
"One of these twelve is definitely mine. Don't you dare compete with me!"
The frenzied chatter made Leonard, who had been silent, uncomfortable. What did they mean by this year being special? Were there usually only one or two items?
As Leonard turned to ask the mysterious woman, she had already vanished. Everyone around him looked the same, making it impossible to distinguish anyone.
Looking at the sea of black, Leonard felt a sudden sense of helplessness. What was this? This uncontrollable feeling of unease.
...
Meanwhile, Aurora woke up abruptly, her back drenched in cold sweat. She gasped for air, her face showing signs of having narrowly escaped a nightmare.
What was going on? Why did she have a nightmare? And why was Leonard involved in it?
In the dream, Leonard had done something wrong and had his luck drained, aging him by decades in an instant. His face was wrinkled, his body weak, and he was filled with despair, all of which deeply disturbed Aurora.
No! She had to check on Leonard!
Aurora didn't even bother to wipe the sweat from her forehead as she hurried to Leonard's tent. Pulling back the tent flap, the scene before her made her eyes widen in shock.
Leonard wasn't there!
Aurora's teeth clenched in anger, but she tried to control her emotions as she walked to the bed and touched it lightly. Damn it, the bed was already cold! Leonard must have left a long time ago!
What was going on?
Furious and in the dark, Aurora began to chant and perform a divination. Ash's image immediately appeared in her mind. Without hesitation, Aurora headed to the director's tent.
"Wake up! Get up!"
"Damn it, Ash! Where is Leonard? You owe me an explanation!"
Suddenly, the tent door opened, and Aurora's flashlight beam hit their faces. Eugene sat up, bewildered, looking at the furious Aurora.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"Is there a snake or some other emergency in your tent? We'll help you handle it right away."
Given past experiences, Eugene was now extremely protective of Aurora, treating her like a precious gem and not daring to neglect her.
Ignoring Eugene's concerned words, Aurora stormed towards the staff tent. Seeing Ash hiding among the staff, Aurora kicked him hard.
"Get up! I need to talk to you!"
Ash, having been kicked, had no choice but to stand up, though he was inwardly cursing. What the hell? She just smeared my reputation like that? So ruthless?
Despite his grievances, Ash knew he had done something wrong. He kept his head down and followed Aurora back to her tent.
As soon as the tent door closed, Aurora, sitting with her legs crossed, looked down at him and asked, "Where is Leonard? What have you two been up to behind my back?"
Ash forced a bitter smile and said helplessly, "Leonard didn't want me to tell you."
In truth, Ash had his own reasons for saying this. He didn't want Aurora to take any risks, but he also didn't want to interfere with her choices. So, he used Leonard as an excuse, hoping to dissuade her.
But who was Aurora? Would such a low-level tactic work on her?
