Chapter 26 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 26 Untitled Chapter
CLAIRE
Now that the truth was in the open, and there was no reason to pretend in front of Hunter, I thought life would get easier for me. Pretending to still want our mate bond was a distraction, but Hunter was starting to prove himself as a throne in my flesh.
We ignored each other as we went about, preparing to retire for the night. However, I was still upset about what he did earlier, putting me on the spot with Jet.
“What are you up to?” I demanded, breaking the icy silence. “I thought you hate me now? Why would you want me on a mission that I could very well compromise your safety without thinking twice about it.”
He paused in the act of picking up a pillow. “You need me.”
Even though it was true, I still didn’t like the sound of it. “I can hate and need you at the same time, isn’t that what our relationship has become?”
Ignoring me for a while, he strode over to the closet to pull out extra sheets. Watching him walk around the place, I frowned, wondering what he was up to.
It eventually made sense when he spread the sheets on the floor, then dropped the pillow. I scoffed, fighting the urge to burst into laughter.
“Hold on—” He straightened up, glaring at me. “This room belongs to me, if anyone should sleep on the ground then it’s you.”
Stalking toward me, he grabbed my shoulders, using it to move me out of the way…away from the bed. For a few seconds, I was too stunned to speak.
“Belong to you?” I hissed, cutting in front of him. “Is this how you tend to make me miserable? How old are you? Ten?”
“No, and no. I simply don’t want to share a bed with you anymore, is that difficult to understand? If you hate me as much as you claimed then you should have no problem returning to the guest bedroom you were previously staying in.”
“This room is mine as much as it is yours. Why should I give it up? You are the one who doesn’t want to share a bed with me— I couldn’t be happier by the way. You should sleep on the ground, it suits you. After all, you were found in a ditch.”
The word had already slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it. I was on the verge of apologizing, to tell him I didn’t mean it, especially when I glimpse the pain in his eyes. It was gone in a flash, making me doubt my vision.
“Perhaps you will take under the bed then? After all that’s where Lady Muna also found you too.” He snarled, anger evident in his voice.
I winced, feeling like he just hit me. As anger stirred up inside me, controlling my body, I closed the distance between us. A second or so later, the sound of my palm connecting with his cheek rings across the room.
“Fuck that!” He hissed, angrily backing me against the wall.
As I tried to get out of his hold, he pressed me into the wall, caging me in with his lower body. The sound of our laboured breathing filled the room, as we fought against each other. If looks could kill, he would be dead in a second, especially when he hiked up my hands above my head, trapping them there.
Then his mouth came down punishingly on mine, there was nothing gentle about the way his tongue slanted over mine. How dare he treat me like this! Anger rages on like a storm on a cloudy day inside me, causing me to raise my knee with the intention of slamming it between his legs.
Even though he realized what I was about to do, his punishing kiss didn’t slow down for a moment. He moved one of his legs over mine, trapping it between his legs the same way he did to my hands.
An involuntary gasp left my lungs when I felt his prominent erection against my stomach. For a split second, I didn’t know how to react. Something shifted, unwanted memories flooded into my mind.
Me and him together, in the early hours of the morning, at night, our bodies entwined in passion. As if he was also having the same flash backs as me, his mouth gentled, moving with ease against mine.
His gripped on my wrist lessened as the kiss grew more passionately. I felt feverish with desires, without meaning to—I found myself kissing him back with the same intensity. Feeling his erection thickened against my stomach, made me whimper into his mouth.
As much as I hated him, hated this primal need between us, I couldn’t deny the fact that I wanted him. I have missed his thickness thrusting into me so much, but admitting that out loud will only give him the satisfaction of denying me.
Perhaps this was his plan, to get me worked up over him so I’ll forget what’s important, then he will exact his revenge on me. Realizing how distracted he had gotten, especially with his lips trailing below my neck.
My thoughts melted away when I felt his fangs graze the sensitive spot of my neck, I jerked against him, my eyes squeezing shut. When a moan slipped out from me, that brought me out of whatever trance Hunter had put me in.
Going back to my original plan, I twist my leg, trying to break free from him once more. It ended up being a bad idea, as the movement only created friction between us. But resuming my struggles, caused him to remain alert again and he tore his lips away from mine.
Glaring down at me with a mixture of anger and desire, his finger came up to my lips. Using the pad of his thumb, he ran it across my bottom lip. The movement was a distraction, until he snapped me out of it by pinching me there.
“What the hell!” I hissed, with clear eyes this time.
I shoved him, finally breaking free. My lips stings a little but a second later, the pain was gone. Now that there was some distance between us, I felt like I could think more clearly again. The moment of weakness that just happened will never be spoken or acknowledged of again.
“You forget something My Fair Claire…” he raised his hand, to touch my hair.
I stopped him, suspending it mid-air. “Don’t call me that!”
In a swift move, he twisted his hand, grabbing mine instead and pushing it behind me. So now, my back was pressed against his chest in an uncomfortable manner. I was fuming so much to the point where I felt like I would burst from anger.
That was how infuriating he was. Why can’t we go back to the time where he did whatever I wanted? Killian will pay for this! I vowed under my breath.
Making use of his free hand, he brushed aside some of the hair that covered my ear so he could speak into it. When he leaned over, and I could feel his breath fanning the side of my face, I felt a steam of wetness running down my thighs.
Oh I hate him! I hate, hate, hate, hate him!
“I will call you whatever I want…” he whispered, shattering the silence like glass.
“And you will love it, you know why? Because it’s me and you love whatever I do… or say.”
“Not anymore.” I huffed, rolling my eyes at him.
“Is that so? Then why aren’t you trying to get away from me? We both know you have a stronger connection to your wolf now. Why not use that to put me in my place huh? Why are you letting yourself—”
I seized the temporary distraction, flipping him over. He collapsed on the ground with a heavy thump and when he attempted to get back home, I placed the heel of my foot down his neck, holding it there.
The pause from him was enough to tell me he understood I will put pressure against his throat, cutting off his air supply, if he attempts to get up or fight me.
“Hunter…” I tsked, letting out a chuckle. “Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten how dirty I play. I grew up with Jet, it’s the only way I could win. An illusion of power doesn’t necessarily mean having power—”
Caught off guard by him grabbing my leg, I collapsed next to him on the ground. He rolled over, so he was half lying on me. His hair falling over his face, my heart missed a beat, my body hummed with anticipation of the kiss I could feel coming.
However, instead of his lips on mine like I was expecting, it moved to my ear.
“Get out!” He sneered, jerking away from me like I suddenly burned him.
Following his lead, I stood up from the ground. “I’m not going anywhere Hunter, that’s to show you how much your existence doesn’t bother me. If you have a problem with me, then get out.”
“Of course I don’t bother you!” He fired back. “How else are you going to use my emotion to strengthen yourself and manipulate me?”
“That’s right—” he carried on, seeing the surprise flicker in my gaze. “The kisses, the touching, you took every rage, every pain, I felt toward the council for what they did to you, to me, to us! And you were going to use that rage on an innocent human!”
“They hurt me first!” I growled at him. “You seem to have forgotten what they did to us—me especially, Hunter! You’re supposed to be my mate! You are supposed to be with me, not against me! If you hadn’t cared about them more, then none of this would have happened.”
“You gave up on me first…”
“No, I’m saving you from yourself…”
