Chapter 234: The Trap on the School Route
Chapter 234: The Trap on the School Route
They returned to Eldoria before dawn.
No one in the villa slept properly after that.
The children were brought inside under doubled security.
Harlan was transferred under sealed medical detention.
Dean converted the west study into an operations room before sunrise.
By eight in the morning, every recovered Mirathia file had been duplicated across three protected legal channels.
By nine, Noah found the next threat.
He had been quiet for nearly twenty minutes, eyes moving across mirrored route structures and buried comm packets pulled from one of Daisy's auxiliary traffic lines.
Then he said, "Found it."
Everyone in the room turned.
James crossed the distance first.
Noah rotated the screen.
A route pattern glowed under layered transit overlays.
Emma's old school transfer lane.
Therapy corridor fallback.
Pickup timing assumptions.
Andy came beside him and looked once.
"Phase structure," he said grimly. "They were going to take her on the road."
Charlotte's whole body went cold.
James asked only one question.
"How certain."
Noah answered immediately.
"Enough."
Dean leaned over the table.
"Can we isolate the likely strike window?"
Andy was already doing it.
"Morning movement is best for them. Too predictable, enough civilian interference, enough urgency to force mistakes."
Brad, who had barely slept at all, rubbed a hand over his face.
"They'll expect emotional response from the adults. That means speed and confusion."
Charlotte looked at the map and said, "No."
The room quieted.
She turned to James.
"No baiting her with Emma."
James met her eyes.
There was no argument in his expression, only hard calculation and understanding.
"We don't use Emma," he said.
Charlotte held his gaze for one more second, then nodded.
Noah looked back down at the screen.
"If they still think they know our movement assumptions, we can build decoys."
Andy picked it up at once.
"Three visible vehicles. One with thermal mimic. One staggered off-route. One hidden extraction line."
Dean's expression sharpened.
"Can you make the primary look real enough from distance surveillance?"
Noah gave him a look that was too much like James for comfort.
"Obviously."
Even Brad almost smiled at that.
The plan came together fast.
A visible school-pattern departure.
A decoy child heat signature.
A secondary internal escort line.
A hidden third vehicle for Charlotte and Emma.
Tactical cover layered beyond visual range.
Everything depended on timing.
Everything depended on Daisy's people believing they were still the ones setting the board.
That night, the villa felt like a held breath.
Emma sensed it.
Charlotte found her awake long after she should have been asleep, sitting cross-legged near the middle of the bed with the stuffed rabbit in her lap.
"Sweetheart," Charlotte whispered, sitting beside her. "Why aren't you sleeping?"
Emma looked up.
Then, in a small uncertain voice, asked, "Scary car?"
Charlotte's chest tightened painfully.
Children always knew more than adults wished they did.
She gathered Emma gently into her arms.
"No scary car."
Emma didn't look convinced.
A moment later, James appeared at the bedroom door.
He must have heard enough from the hallway, because he came in without speaking and sat on the other side of Emma.
Emma looked between them both.
Then reached out and caught Charlotte's sleeve with one hand and James's wrist with the other.
"Together," she whispered.
The word was soft, incomplete in pronunciation, but clear enough.
Charlotte shut her eyes briefly.
"Yes," she said. "Together."
James leaned forward and kissed Emma's hair.
"No one is taking you anywhere."
Emma slowly relaxed.
Outside, security lights washed across the garden stone.
Inside, the three of them remained there until Emma finally fell asleep between them.
The convoy left just after sunrise.
Car one rolled out visibly through the main gate.
Car two departed seven minutes later on a mirrored support line.
Car three remained hidden behind the lower service lane until the route triggered.
Charlotte sat with Emma in the protected rear vehicle, one arm around her, every nerve in her body stretched to the limit.
James was in the lead tactical unit.
Dean coordinated through comms.
Noah and Andy monitored route pattern deviation from inside James's vehicle.
For three minutes, everything looked normal.
Then Noah said, very quietly:
"There."
The screen lit with unauthorized motion.
A parked truck moving too soon.
A motorcycle entering blind range.
A dark van warming on the service side.
James' expression changed instantly.
"It's live."
Charlotte held Emma tighter.
Through the comms, Dean's voice came cold and clipped:
"All units, stand by."
The trap had sprung.
And this time, the family was waiting for it.
