Chapter 64 - Rejecting A Wolf
Sometimes, things happen for a definitive reason. Maybe that was the purpose of Henry and Jace bumping into each other.
Call it fate or any other reason, Henry's words shook those three. Especially the witches since such a thing as reincarnation is not far-fetched for them.
But it has been five years. If they were reincarnated, then would they be four - to five year old children? That would make the most sense.
But you can't ignore the fact that those two were suspicious. Tom, Morel, and Nick glance at each other.
"We need to have a long conversation about this," Tom told them, and they nodded. After sending Henry off. They re-entered the office and didn't come out until late at night.
The discussion lasted that long, but it allowed them to properly decide the right decision for them right now.
They were fighting a losing battle. Pretty soon, this place would be discovered if it hadn't already been discovered. What can those two strangers do for them in battle? They asked themselves
It was probably nothing, but honestly, something is always better than nothing. Giving Aurora and Jace the benefit of the doubt was them grasping at straws. Morel and Nick couldn't help them in the battle because the moment they do, it will cause more harm than good.
So they decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. letting a little trust go towards these strange people.
It was the best they could do. Meanwhile, Aurora and Jace were back in the cave. Pitifully, these two haven't eaten since they came to Earth.
Why is it pitiful? Well, despite being reincarnated into countless lives over the centuries, their cooking skills were subpar.
"Rock, paper, scissors to see who cooks. Best out of three." Aurora glumly told Jace.
"Who catches the game?" Jace asked.
"The cook." She answered. Jace's face hardened. He was prepared to fight Aurora to the death not to cook, but as they got in position ready to throw their first attack, Aurora's eyes glazed over.
'A vision,' thought Jace as he silently watched Aurora. However, it took Aurora some time to see what was being shown to her.
It was like the visions weren't intended to come but were still forcefully sent to her. By the time she finished seeing what lie ahead, her body was covered in a cold sweat.
"Pah," she breathed out heavily, Jace was already sitting beside her and took it upon himself to help calm her down by hugging her while gently rubbing her back in circles.
In two minutes, the strain she felt disappeared, but the horror of her vision didn't fade. After she calmly collected her thoughts, she looked at Jace.
"It's about the pack," Aurora began, "The council will begin the assault on them today."
"We need to go then," Jace stood up and put his hand out for Aurora to take it.
"Jace," Aurora didn't take his hand. Instead, she called out to him steadily. "No matter what happens or who dies, we can not turn anyone into lycans. We are going to fix problems, not cause new ones."
"I know that Ror, " Jace presses his lips in a thin line. " I'm not a little child, I will control my emotions, so let's go."
Jace shook his extended hand. He was annoyed, understandably so, but he didn't see what she saw.
They can't save everybody, and the sooner they accept that, the better. But Aurora was still worried. Their last life was still fresh in their minds. There is no telling what would happen if they had to risk saving their old families at the behest of the rules they placed to protect and preserve the werewolf species.
Finally, after hesitating, Aurora took his hand, and he helped her up.
"Will flying get us there faster?" Jace couldn't help but ask.
"A Peregrine falcon is the fastest flying bird. Let's change into that," Aurora suggested.
"I have no idea what one looks like. " Jace admitted, and Aurora chuckled.
"That's fine, just copy me. " She pauses before adding. "You have never tried from midair. Today, we'll shift from Falcon to Werewolf and drop right in the middle of the battlefield. "
"Well, that's a great idea, but we don't know which side to help while in wolf form." Jace pointed out, and Aurora rolled her eyes.
"Every pack has a distinctive smell. Did you forget? " Aurora reminded him, and Jace paused before nodding.
"Right, we wasted enough time. Let's go!" Jace told her, and she nodded before shifting into the falcon.
Jace studied the bird's form silently for a few seconds before shifting into one. He immediately noticed some differences. The size differences, he glanced at Aurora and could feel her amusement oozing off her, but before he could say anything, she took off in a flash.
Silently cursing in his mind, he clumsily took off after her. The beginning was rough, but he calmed down and let his instincts as a bird take over.
From a rough start to a smooth finish, he caught up to Aurora, and the two glided through the skies to the pack they were at just a few hours earlier.
The aerial view of the destructive attack that had just begun. It was them reaching in the nick of time, but that didn't mean the pack was completely safe.
Aurora and Jace glanced at each other, tucking in their wings they dove into the battlefield. Mid-air, the small body of a falcon shifted into the huge body of wolves.
If anyone had looked up at that moment and seen what was the most mesmerizing scene of a bird shifting into a giant wolf. It would shift their view of the world.
And with accurate positioning, both Jace and Aurora landed on top of the council's men. Crushing them with their weight alone, it was a cleanly executed death.
And with just that alone, the entire battlefield stilled. Not only because of how the two wolves died but because of the sheer size of the two wolves that killed them.
"Grrrrrrrr," Aurora growled, and Jace followed by snarling. Both searched through the crowd for Tom. When they found him, Aurora mind linked him immediately.
'We are Aurora and Jace. What's the status?' Tom stood frozen for a second, but he recognized her wolf. It's the same giant wolf he saw that day.
He was unsure how she could mind link him, but he decided to respond.
'Surrounded by enemies, the one leading this charge is the head of the council's mate. Astrada Walker.' Tom replied.
Aurora paused before she let out a snort. What wonderful news, Astrada Walker is here.
Her death would be deserved, but Aurora had other plans. She'll give Brandon hope he can rescue his mate. Smirking in her head, she turned to Jace and told him the situation through mind link.
Both of them decided to split up and protect the front and rear. Aurora wanted to go for Astrada, and Jace would circle the pack lands to find enemies.
All of this seemed like it took a long time, but barely two minutes passed since their entrance, and everyone came down from their shock.
Now, it was only the enemies in front of them that mattered. Both Jace and Aurora shot out like bullets. Charging ahead, they weaved through allies and killed enemies or wounded them before leaving them to the pack to handle.
Jace inched his way to the other side whereas Aurora was bombarded on all sides. Her massive frame proved to be a disadvantage, but the council's warriors we no match for her.
This was when Astrada, who thought victory was in the bag, started to panic. Two unknown wolves drastically changed the flow of the battle so quickly.
"What are you idiots doing? Charge at the giant wolf all at once!" Astrada screamed out her command. This was a good tactic to overpower a large enemy, but it wasn't effective.
Why, you ask? Simply because they were going to need more than a few dozen wolves to bring down a full-blooded lycan.
Seeing things were going in the wrong direction, she could continue to hesitate anymore. Astrada called for a full retreat. This was an enemy they couldn't face with these number, not only that but they were two of them.
The commander called for a retreat, so the troops needed to fall back. But would that stop Aurora, who had a clear goal in mind? No, It wouldn't.
Aurora cleared a bloody pathway to Astrada, mutilating any wolf in her way. Astrada watched as this giant wolf, silver in color, stood in front of her.
Her fur coated with fresh blood, fear gripped Astrada as she stood there looking into the wolf's cold eyes.
If it weren't for the simple fact, she forgot to take her clothes off when she shifted in a hurry when they left. Aurora would have shifted then and there to face Astrada. Instead, she had to opt for the next best thing.
Subduing her 'gently'. Opening her bloodied jaws, Aurora let out a snarl. Laced in an aura that caused the forested area to go silent in an instant.
All fighting stopped, and all the noise ceased. Not even the sound of breathing was heard as Aurora released her aura.
'Would you rather I break your legs or you break them yourself.' Aurora asked the already shaken Astrada through the mind link.
