Chapter 62 - Rejecting A Wolf
The sun had risen, and the light heat from the morning sun touched Aurora's skin as she stood at the entrance of the cave.
It was time for them to begin making moves. However, the troubling part about it was that they were going up against an entire race.
No matter how strong lycans are, they can't overcome the issue with just their power alone, which calls into question. Should they create lycans?
Creating lycans would help with the uprising, but it can open another can of worms.
The Lycans would fight for dominance, maybe not all, but greed for power can warp a person's perspective. It'll be them creating another council to replace the council even while they know how the council's system is bound to fail.
"Are you ready?" Jace hugged Aurora from behind, knocking her out of her thoughts.
"Mhm," She hummed absent-mindedly. Jace dropped his chin on her shoulder and squeezed her tightly.
"My beloved, thinking about it hard isn't going to make the issue go away." Jace comforted her. "We will think of something."
"How are we going to win the war without enough power?" Aurora asked.
"You know we can't make lycans. That's like giving Tigers wings. It will spiral out of control."Jace firmly reminded her.
"Don't you think I know that! It's just now that it's up to us, and I have no idea how or where to start." Aurora pulled away from Jace's hold.
"The first thing we must do is thoroughly understand the situation Aurora. The. we can come up with a plan. Making lycans should be our last resort, okay?" Jace sighed as he rubbed his forehead.
"Sigh, I'm sorry, Jace, it's just that I don't want to thrust this world into more chaos." Aurora realized she was overreacting and apologized.
"Let's just forget the complicated stuff and pretend to be werewolves. We need to track down that Tom guy and find out the situation from him." Jace extended his hand out to her, which she took, and they clasped their hands together.
"Yeah, you're right. Let's shift and run." Aurora agreed, putting the worries of the future to the back of her mind.
Shifting into werewolf forms, the two glanced at each other and immediately shifted into human form.
"Well, aren't our wolves a bit too big?" Jace asked Aurora.
"Um, you shift into wolf form and try to make it smaller," Aurora advised him. Jace nodded and did what she asked. He shifted into his wolf form and began trying to make it smaller.
Which shouldn't be a problem, but for some reason, he couldn't do it. Frustrated, he shifted from wolf to an elephant and tried to make it smaller, and it was no surprise he made the elephant as tiny as a mouse.
"This doesn't make sense," Aurora mumbled. When she shifted into werewolf form at the grave sight, she wasn't concerned about the size then because it never crossed her mind.
But as they were heading into werewolf society trying to correct the mistakes that brought werewolves to this point, they had to blend in or at least try.
"Maybe it's because of the centuries we spent as wolves making us unable to alter its form," Jace suggested when he shifted back into human form, and Aurora glanced at him and hummed.
"Then this makes things harder, one look at us, and everybody would know we are different." Aurora sighed, rubbing her forehead.
"Then let's try to avoid shifting into werewolf form as long as possible when we are with them."Jace pondered before telling her.
"That's a good idea, we can't keep our wolf forms hidden forever, but we can avoid looking suspicious to them for the time being." Aurora agreed.
Then, the two of them shifted once more before taking off in the direction east. Where Tom and the resistance made a home at the edge of werewolf territory.
Nick was playing with his son when a chill went down his spine. His pregnant mate would Dillion also got alerted of two people standing at the border.
Seeing the grim look on her mate's face, Dillion couldn't help but worry. Trying to calm down, she rubbed her belly to soothe herself.
"Nick? Tom is going there, aren't you going with him?" Nick glanced at Dillion and noticed her unease. Quickly, he relaxed his face and rubbed his son's head gently.
"Mhm, don't worry, they mean us no harm," Nick told her, but that just made Dillion crease her brows.
"How would you know that?" Dillion asked him.
"Because Morel is already there." Dillion looked at her mate silently before nodding. Everybody knew Morel was a powerful witch. Her power seemed to grow exponentially since Aurora and Jace's death.
It could be said their deaths dug into some hidden talent of hers. But even so, there was only so much Morel and Nick could do within this war.
They are witches. Their actions are being monitored by the witches' council. Any support towards the werewolf cause can put their lives in danger.
So they had to sit on the sidelines and watch the people they swore to protect getting slaughtered.
But between Nick and Morel, they agreed to attack the moment this place was under attack regardless of the consequences. That was their bottom line.
Nick gently smiled at his mate before kissing his son on his head. He then teleported himself to where Tom and Morel were already gathered to see these dangerous people who came here.
What he saw stunned him for a second. A beautiful woman with long silver hair and a handsome man with black hair stood there with their hands in the air silently looking at the three in front of them.
But that's not what stunned Nick. What stunned Nick was when he glanced over them, his eyes met with Aurora's.
A strong sense of familiarity hit him when that happened. She reminded him of that broken little girl he couldn't save.
This made Nick even more wary of these two. Silently, they stood there just staring at each other until Jace growled lowly.
"If you keep staring at her like that I might just dig your fucking eyes out." Jace snarled at Tom who stared at Aurora in a daze.
It's a rude action since she was naked. So the warning snapped Tom out of his daze, making him cough in embarrassment.
"My apologies, I didn't mean to stare it's just that...." Some words were best left unsaid. Who knows how aggressively this male might react to him if he said she reminded him of his dead mate?
"We came here to seek aid," Aurora noticed Jace was about to go off and tugged his wrist before stepping forward and saying.
"We meet again, sir," Aurora greeted Tom, who nodded and replied. "It would seem that we have a mutual acquaintance. Aurora Dale and Jace Maddox."
Instantly, everybody's guard went even higher when they heard this woman call out their names.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" Nick was the one who spoke first. His fists were balled up, and he looked rather angry.
"My mate and I only came here to offer our assistance. " Aurora smiled, but she knew they were wary of her. How could they not be? She was sure the witches could tell they were dangerous, and Tom's wolf was probably asking him to retreat.
"Let's make it clear right now. If we wanted, we could kill all of you without resistance. You're weak and pitifully so. I understand you distrust us, but is it appropriate to talk about important things while naked at the edge of the pack?" Jace, interjected and said to them.
On one hand, he was completely right, but on the other, he was a person to be wary of together with the woman.
"Then let's head into the pack." Nick invited them in. Morel and Tom couldn't help but glare at Nick.
"What are you doing, you crazy bastard!" Morel exploded.
"They won't hurt us," was all Nick replied as he looked deep into Morel's eyes before turning to Tom and repeating the same thing.
Tom took a bit more time to convince, but within two minutes, under the escort of the two witches and Tom. Aurora and Jace entered the small territory.
This was the start of the beginning of the turning point for the resistance.
