The Wedding Preparations and the Brewing Storm

Chapter 183: The Wedding Preparations and the Brewing Storm

Alicia’s heart clenched painfully, not for herself, but for Max.

For the manipulation.

For the weakening of someone who had once held her entire future in his hands.

Brooke murmured, low and dangerous, “She’s baiting him.”

“I know,” Alicia whispered.

Max shook his head firmly. “Diana, no. You want power, revenge, or both. You don’t want me.”

Her smile shattered at its edges.

“And Alicia?” she hissed. “Has she ever suffered consequences for tossing you aside? Today she bonds to another. Today she forgets you completely, yet I’m the villain for wanting what was denied to me?”

Max’s jaw tightened. “I said no.”

She leaned close, whispering something more lethal than any blade.

“You may reject me today. But one crack… one heartbreak… and you’ll come running. I only need one moment of her weakness.”

Alicia felt the chill of it.

Brooke growled, “We’ll crush this before it blooms.”

But Alicia shook her head.

“No. We neutralize her fully today. Permanently.”

THE THREE-WAY COLLISION OF CHAOS

That evening, chaos erupted from all three fronts simultaneously.

The first arose from Yuri’s internal conflict.

Despite his new bond, Yuri battled the remnants of old desire, and Liora felt it. Her insecurity spiraled into panic, unleashing a psychic surge that nearly destabilized the courtyard shields.

The second was triggered by Max Junior’s sudden flare.

His new bond activated latent alpha energy in his bloodline. The unexpected flare nearly caused a territorial clash with Brooke’s warriors.

The third was due to Diana’s sabotage attempt.

She had tried to slip a potion into Max’s drink, a spell designed to weaken his mind and seed emotional attachment to her.

But she didn’t know Alicia was watching everything through the Watcher’s eyes.

Alicia stepped forward.

Her voice cracked like thunder.

“Enough.”

Magic slammed through the hall, silencing every whisper.

Her eyes burned gold as she approached Diana.

“You will not poison him,” Alicia said softly, dangerously.

Diana froze, caught.

“You will not manipulate Yuri.

You will not exploit Max Junior’s bond.

You will not twist old wounds to carve new ones.”

Alicia raised her hand.

The Watcher materialized behind her.

“Diana,” Alicia declared, “you are hereby stripped of all emotional influence, psychic projection, and manipulative enchantments until the wedding is complete.”

Diana’s mouth dropped open. “You can’t...”

“I can,” Alicia said. “And I will.”

Brooke stepped beside her, solid as stone.

Max and Yuri both stepped forward too.

United for the first time since the marking.

The Watcher sealed the decree.

A shimmering cage of magic wrapped around Diana, blocking her schemes, her seductive spells, her manipulative power.

She fell to her knees, powerless.

And the entire hall exhaled.

Alicia turned to Brooke, her voice soft but sure.

“The wedding can proceed without shadows.”

He kissed her forehead. “Then let’s prepare for it.”

Max nodded, eyes tired but grateful.

Yuri held Liora’s trembling hand, grounding her.

Max Junior stood tall beside Lyria, already protective.

The chaos was neutralized.

The path to the wedding was finally clear.

But peace never comes without whispers.

Because as the hall quieted, the Watcher leaned close to Alicia and murmured:

“Neutralized… but not erased.

Be vigilant, Queen of Dawn.

The heart is the oldest battlefield.”

Alicia felt Brooke’s warm hand wrap around hers.

And yet, deep in her spirit, she knew the final storm had not yet arrived.

The dawn after Diana’s neutralization rose soft and gold, washing the kingdom in a deceptive peace. Birds sang, markets buzzed, healers tended the wounded from recent battles, and yet the palace walls thrummed with a tension no one could quite name.

For Alicia, it began the moment she woke.

The scent of lavender filled her chamber. Sunlight spilled across the silk sheets. Brooke’s arm was still wrapped around her waist, protective even in sleep, his chest rising and falling in deep, steady breaths.

She traced a finger over the faint mark he’d left on her during their bonding, a whisper of heat under her skin.

Soon, it would deepen.

Soon, it would become permanent.

The wedding was coming.

But so was something else.

Something darker.

Something ancient.

THE PALACE TRANSFORMS

By midday, the palace was alive.

Florists hurried through the halls with armfuls of moonblossoms, white, glowing petals that thrived only under lunar magic. Seamstresses ran tapestries through enchanted looms, creating silver-and-gold cloth embroidered with Alicia’s lineage sigils. Warriors patrolled in doubled numbers.

Outside, the training courts rang with the clang of metal, drills intensified. No one admitted it openly, but everyone felt the shift in the air, the sense that destiny was holding its breath.

Alicia walked the corridors with Brooke at her side, juggling ceremony planning and security concerns.

“We strengthen the outer perimeter,” Brooke said, studying a scroll of defense layouts. “Any movement near the woods will be detected. Lord Fenris is sending his elite guards to reinforce the South Gate.”

Alicia nodded, though her stomach tightened.

“Do you think something will happen at the wedding?” she asked quietly.

Brooke glanced sideways at her.

His voice remained calm, but his eyes betrayed truth.

“Something is already happening.”

MAX, QUIET PAIN BEHIND A MASK

Max lingered near the council balcony, arms crossed as he watched preparations from above. His posture was casual, but his eyes followed Alicia every time she moved across the courtyard, sharp, unreadable, quietly aching.

She approached him cautiously.

“You’re avoiding me,” she said gently.

He didn’t deny it.

“I’m giving you space,” he replied. “You need… clarity. And Brooke deserves these days without my shadow messing things up.”

Her heart pulled taut.

“Max… you’re not a shadow.”

He finally met her eyes, full of longing, regret, and a bittersweet acceptance.

“You chose him,” Max said, voice low. “And I, I’m learning to live with that.”

Alicia swallowed hard, guilt tightening her throat.

But before she could reply, Lyria, Max Junior’s new mate, approached with a nervous smile.

“Max,” she called, “your son is trying to spar with three warriors twice his size. I think he’s showing off again.”

Max sighed. “Of course he is.”

He nodded to Alicia softly. “Go. Prepare for your future. I’ll handle mine.”

He walked away.

Alicia exhaled shakily.

Brooke’s hand slid into hers from behind.

“Are you alright?” he murmured.

She forced a small smile. “I will be.”

But the storm inside her was growing.
