Celine’s POV
The silence in the forest was an unsettling kind, the type of silence that made you uneasy and made you overthink everything. The assassin was wriggling like a worm, one hand on the spear that pierced through his chest and yet another on the floor doing relatively nothing.
Jarvis stood above him, he had one hand holding the gun that was pointed at his head, his other hand was hidden under the cloak that he had on which he used to cover the wound that was on his chest.
I was worried for him at this point but I wasn't very bothered. I had seen the way that lycans healed from wounds that were even more grave than this one and it would usually only take a moment before it would all be gone and he would be back to normal.
Jarvis had his eyes fixated on his rey, but the assassin couldn't care less, for some weird reason he was all smiles and laughs even as he was nearing his imminent death. I looked over at Jarvis and I could tell that he had questions that he wanted to ask the assassin but a part of me felt it was unnecessary at this point.
We could already guess the majority of the answers to the questions that we wanted to ask him and even if we didn't, we knew for a fact that everything pointed back to Ryder and his plan to kidnap me.
“I have one question for you…” Jarvis started panting slightly in between each word of his question. “There is no way that you are the only one that Ryder sent to retrieve Celine, so who are the others and where are they now?”
I gazed around a bit to try and see beyond the darkness of my environment to be sure that we were safe and alone. Jarvis was right and that was a fact…knowing Ryder, he wouldn't possibly send only one guy to retrieve me.
Though it was possible that he wouldn't have let the guy know that he wasn't the only one that was sent but then he still wouldn't be the only one that was sent to retrieve me.
I heard a thud and I turned to see Jarvis down on one knee, he was groaning in serious pain and before long he was down on the floor completely and gasping for air.
“Jarvis…Jarvis stay with me…what's wrong with you” I cried out helplessly for a moment as I tried to shake him back to his feet. He laid on the floor, his head on my legs and his eyes flickered their fiery red colour. He was convulsing at this point and I could see the life leaving his body.
His convulsion got even more serious but would soon come to a sudden end at some point.
The realisation of what had happened got me both shocked and in dismay.
Jarvis was dead.
I heard a hysterical laugh in front of me and I looked up to see the assassin laughing. His voice was starting to sound lifeless at this point but he was still alive though only barely. I could help but wonder why he was even still alive anyway.
“Think about it young rabbit” he croaked, managing to make out words despite the blood in his mouth. “Did you really think that I would come here without being reared to fight lycans and their healing properties?” he laughed for a bit, interrupted but a cough that took him moments to recover from.
“Oh and by the way sweetheart” he continued. “I'm not the only one that was sent to get you. In fact I'm not even in the main course…” His eyes seemed to finally roll back in lifelessness as he finally passed away. A cold wind blew through amplifying the cold shiver that already existed in my sine.
I looked around in fear and uncertainty, an unhealthy mix that was even further amplified by the cold weather and the unnerving silence. The fear of the unknown had a cold and firm grip on me at this point and panic began to overwhelm me.
I didn't have the slightest idea of what to do at this point, I felt like a rabbit that had been chased into a corner, unsure of what direction to go and knowing only that it was a bad idea to go back.
Soon I began to hear footsteps in the darkness, I called out to the person, it was a move that I feared I would regret but I still went ahead with it anyway.
I prayed within me to the moon goddess that it would be one of the people from the Lycan clan who had come to my rescue and was probably looking for me.
The footsteps paused for a moment but eventually began in my direction…. I hope for the best but somewhere within me I expected the worst. Before long I could see a figure appearing in the darkness.
“Who's there? Who is it?” I tried my best to sound as intimidating as possible but my voice betrayed me revealing the fear in me.
He passed for a moment before eventually coming out of the shadows. My eyes widened the moment I recognized who it was. My mind thought to run but my legs betrayed me…they have become numb and stiff but I wasn't sure if it was because of tiredness or out of fear for the person in front of me.
He looked down on me with a scowl on his face. His eyes straight to the two bodies on the floor settling majorly on the assassin's body, my mind tried to puzzle out the expression that was on his face but it wasn't very easy to read.
If anything he looked very unimpressed and I could tell why.
“Well I never really expected much from this fleas bag anyway” he commented, kicking his body lightly.
You look at my direction with a light smile on his face, the light scars that covered the left side of his face were still as evident as they were when I was with Ryder.
This was Mason, and he was basically the big bad wolf amongst Ryder's men.
“Long time no see Celine…Ryder sends his regards”
