Chapter 46 Work Badge

Chapter 46 Work Badge

A sudden dull cramping pain hit Flora's lower abdomen. Without changing her expression, she stopped typing, lifted the blanket, and said, "I need to use the bathroom first. I'll do the wound irrigation later."

But as soon as she stood up, Vivian pressed down on her shoulder, forcing her to sit back down.

Flora looked puzzled. "What are you doing?"

Vivian quickly lowered her eyes to avoid her gaze, fumbling to grab the saline solution from the cart, her tone firm: "Let's deal with the wound first. It'll be quick, won't take much of your time."

The pain in her abdomen suddenly intensified. A sharp cramping pain struck hard, and Flora's face froze for several seconds. She pressed hard on her lower abdomen, forcing herself to speak: "No, I really need to go to the bathroom first."

It seemed like her period had started.

Seeing Flora being so uncooperative, Vivian, already feeling guilty, suddenly felt a surge of anger. She snapped in frustration: "Can you please follow medical advice and cooperate with us? I told you the irrigation is quick. Can't you even wait a few minutes?"

She didn't understand these complicated nursing procedures anyway—she'd just watched two videos on the way here. Now she was under the double pressure of guilt and panic, and Flora still wouldn't cooperate!

Why was she so annoying everywhere she went!

Flora didn't argue back. She kept pressing hard on her lower abdomen until the cramping gradually faded, and her face relaxed a bit.

Seeing Flora go quiet, Vivian thought her warning had worked. She placed Flora's injured hand on the gauze and reached out to unwrap the bandage.

While Vivian focused on unwrapping the bandage, Flora was carefully studying her.

Though her uniform was similar in style to the other nurses', the waist was tailored, and the stripe colors on the hem were lighter. None of the nurses who'd taken care of her these past two days wore masks, but she was wearing one. And also...

She looked down, staring intently at Vivian's hands.

Could nurses have manicures?

Just as Vivian poured out saline solution mixed with some unknown liquid and was about to irrigate Flora's wound, Flora suddenly pulled her hand back, quickly rewrapping the bandage tightly, her tone cold: "My wound doesn't need irrigation. You can go."

Having come so close to the final step, Vivian felt like she'd been played. But for the sake of her plan, she could only suppress her anger and pretend to persuade earnestly: "The irrigation doesn't hurt, and it's quick—just a few minutes."

"If you don't irrigate it, your wound will heal much slower, and it might even get infected and fester. That would only make things worse."

But no matter what she said, Flora wouldn't cooperate.

"I need to use the bathroom. I don't want the irrigation. That's final." She started to get up.

"Ms. White! Please cooperate with us!"

Vivian slammed down the tools in her hand, her tone emphatic: "We're doing this for your own good. Why make things difficult for yourself and for us?"

There was no way she could give up halfway! If she couldn't get this drug on Flora's hand today, she wasn't leaving!

Vivian's persistent pestering only confirmed Flora's suspicions. A mocking smile curved her lips. Seeing someone passing by the door, she called out loudly: "So this is how your hospital operates—forcing patients now!"

"Can't I just refuse this irrigation service? I already said my hand is fine, and even if something's wrong, I'll take responsibility myself. But you insist on forcing me to do it and on restricting my freedom! Is this hospital a place to treat patients or a bandit den?"

Those few sentences struck a nerve with others' dissatisfaction about forced charges and hospitalization. Patients passing by the door stopped and craned their necks to look through the glass window.

The commotion drew medical staff. Seeing quite a crowd at the door, a nurse came forward to disperse them. After listening at the door for a few minutes, she knocked on the ward door.

"What's going on here?" The head nurse pulled back Vivian, who was still arguing, then turned to Flora with a puzzled expression.

Flora clenched her fist and complained indignantly: "Head nurse, perfect timing. I was just about to ask you—how exactly does your hospital train its nurses? I emphasized several times that my lower abdomen hurts badly and I need to use the bathroom, but she absolutely wouldn't let me. Instead, she accused me of not cooperating with treatment!"

Hearing this, Vivian rolled her eyes at Flora and retorted indignantly: "You weren't cooperating. I was all ready to irrigate your wound, and then you suddenly said you didn't need it."

This bitch was turning the tables on her!

"Shut up!" The head nurse scolded Vivian in a low voice, then immediately turned to Flora with a gentle, soothing tone, admitting her training had been inadequate. She promised to strictly educate Vivian and make her apologize, then sincerely advised: "Ms. White, your wound is serious and does need proper care. We really do recommend the irrigation."

At the mention of irrigation, Flora raised an eyebrow, her gaze sweeping contemptuously over Vivian, her face mocking. "You know my injury is serious and needs careful treatment. I'm paying top dollar for your VIP room, and you assign me such a rookie? I just watched her fumble through unwrapping the bandage and preparing the medicine. I was worried about my wound and questioning your professionalism—that's why I wouldn't cooperate."

She pressed her lips together, her chest rising and falling slightly, then looked up and asked coldly, "Is this how you treat VIP patients?"

A nurse with inadequate basics? Impossible! Hearing this, the head nurse instinctively wanted to deny it.

The hospital's screening was always strict. VIP rooms were always assigned nurses like Tamsin who'd passed last year's evaluation. There was no way they'd slip up on such small matters.

She was about to turn and question the nurse beside her when she suddenly realized that the person standing next to her wasn't Tamsin at all, but an unfamiliar face named Vivian, looking nervous and scared.

Instantly, everything made sense.

The head nurse's face darkened, anger churning in her eyes. "Did you not pass your training? How could you get even the most basic things wrong?"

Faced with questioning from the head nurse and her "colleagues," Vivian nervously pinched her fingers, not daring to say a word, her head lowered.

What to do? What to do? She had to get out of here quickly. Once they discovered she wasn't a nurse from this hospital, the consequences would be unthinkable!

"Which team are you on? Who's your team leader? Go get her here right now!"

Vivian's heart leaped with joy. She quickly replied: "I—I'll go right now!"

"Wait!"

Flora stopped Vivian as she turned to leave.

She stared directly at Vivian's eyes hidden behind her bangs. "What's your name? Where's your ID badge?"

At these words, everyone's eyes fixed on Vivian's empty chest. Everyone immediately realized that nurses must wear ID badges at work. Where was hers?

Combined with her clumsy technique and panicked, evasive manner, all the suspicious points added up.

The head nurse stepped forward and demanded, "Where's your ID badge?"

Vivian lowered her head even more, refusing to speak.

The medical staff pressed closer. Seeing that her cover was about to be blown, after much hesitation, Vivian turned to run.

But a quick-thinking nurse had already locked the ward door. She grabbed Vivian as she tried to escape and pulled off her mask and cap.

The next second, Vivian's face was completely exposed to everyone.
