Chapter 45 Nurse
Chapter 45 Nurse
"Knock knock knock—"
The incessant knocking was like a sharp blade, completely severing the string called reason in Vivian's mind. She clenched her jaw, her face dark, and rushed to the door with hurried steps.
She yanked the door open and lashed out at the housekeeper outside: "Are you blind? Can't you see I'm in a terrible mood right now? I wasn't even going to bother with you, but you just kept nagging on and on. You have no idea how to read the room, insisting on coming over to annoy me. Even you dare to provoke me? Have you been unhappy with me all along? If you can't stand me, just leave. I never begged you to stay and serve me."
"You're in your twenties and all you do is serve others—what's the point of your life!"
She stood with one hand on her hip, her face twisted, jabbing the housekeeper's forehead with her sharp manicured finger.
Even after being scolded like this, the housekeeper didn't dare show the slightest displeasure. She kept her head down, bent over, and explained carefully: "I—I'm sorry, Ms. Smith, I didn't mean to disturb you. It's just that several people have come, all saying they have urgent business with you. They all looked well-dressed, and one even claimed to be the heir of Zenith Building Group. I was worried that not informing you promptly might delay your social engagements, so I rushed over to knock."
"It's my fault. I'll be more careful from now on."
Hearing this description, Vivian knew it was those people she'd previously cultivated coming to find her. She said impatiently, "Have them wait in the living room. I'll be right there."
"Yes, ma'am." The housekeeper hurried away.
Vivian washed her face and quickly applied some light makeup before heading downstairs at a leisurely pace.
Seeing her finally appear, Brian Scott, who had been waiting for a long time, spoke first: "Ms. Smith certainly kept us waiting!"
They'd shown their credentials and still been kept at the door, then waited in the living room for half an hour after getting in. She really was full of herself!
"Mr. Scott, don't tease me. I just had something urgent to handle, but as soon as I heard you were here, I came right down. I wonder what important matter brings you all here today?"
Brian snorted heavily, his face sour: "Ms. Smith shouldn't have forgotten that we agreed to work with you in the first place only because of your sister. Now so much time has passed, and forget about working with your sister—we haven't even met her once. We came today because we want to see her."
"You said she's sick at home recovering, right? Then please have her come down." Since Flora wouldn't appear, they would take the initiative to visit her.
The others remained silent, but hearing this, they all nodded in agreement.
"Mr. Scott, isn't that a bit selfish of you?"
"Me, selfish?" Brian shot to his feet as if he'd heard the biggest joke, his face full of disbelief. "You've been stringing us along all this time, and now it's our fault?"
Vivian didn't back down one bit. She immediately slammed down her coffee cup and coldly lectured: "You know very well my sister is bedridden now, weak and frail, and needs peace and quiet to recover. How can you ask her to exhaust herself for your selfish desires? If you all came here today only for this, please go back.
"I will never agree to anything that sacrifices my sister's health."
"Show them out!" As soon as she finished speaking, Vivian swept her sleeve and turned to leave.
A chorus of dissatisfied voices immediately erupted behind her, but Vivian paid no attention, walking faster and faster.
Only after returning to her room did she pat her chest with lingering fear.
That was close! Good thing she reacted quickly enough just now and managed to cover up the lie!
But how dare those people be so rude to her?
"Why is it so late already!"
It was already seven in the evening. Vivian suddenly remembered she still had important business to handle and immediately grabbed the outfit the servant had prepared and went into the bathroom.
When she emerged, she had changed into a nurse's uniform.
"Simply perfect." She stood in front of the full-length mirror, put on her nurse's cap, examined herself from all angles, and after confirming her disguise was flawless, pushed open the door and headed straight to the hospital where Flora was staying.
Before coming, Vivian had secretly arranged everything.
The nurse who was supposed to care for Flora that day had been given laxatives and was suffering from sudden stomach pain, hiding miserably in the bathroom. Vivian took the opportunity to assume her identity and take over the work of administering Flora's IV and treating her wounds.
[Ms. Smith, you can go straight in and take over. The nurse is still in the bathroom.]
Before sending the message, her informant had even stood on the toilet to peek over and confirm the nurse was still in the next stall.
Her phone vibrated. After glancing at the message, Vivian put away her phone, pressed down the nurse's cap on her head, and walked into the nursing room with her head lowered.
"Isn't Tamsin on duty tonight?"
Just as Vivian unwrapped the saline solution and was about to take out the medicine she'd hidden, the nursing room door was suddenly pushed open. The person coming in seemed to be a colleague of the nurse she'd replaced.
Vivian's heart jumped, and the saline solution in her hand nearly slipped and fell. She hurriedly lowered her head, her eyes evasive, and explained with forced composure: "Tamsin isn't feeling well tonight, so she switched shifts with me."
Hearing this, the person shrugged unsurprised. "Today seems to be her anniversary with her boyfriend. She's probably at some restaurant right now."
Seeing her hunched shoulders and shy demeanor, the colleague leaned down slightly and tilted her head to look at her: "New here?"
Noticing the other person's movement, Vivian grew more panicked inside. She clasped her hands tightly and steadied her voice: "Yes, I just got confirmed."
"Then you might not know Tamsin's personality. Remember to be firm with her—she's always been lazy, constantly getting colleagues to cover her shifts."
The colleague was naturally friendly, but fortunately was called away by someone else after just a few words.
The door closed again. Vivian deliberately waited a while longer, and after confirming there was no movement outside, she immediately took out the medicine and injected it into the saline solution prepared for cleaning Flora's wound.
She picked up the bottle and examined it carefully. Only after confirming the saline solution showed no abnormalities did she hurriedly place it with the other medications on the medical cart and wheel it out.
To prevent Flora from recognizing her, Vivian deliberately put on a mask before entering.
After pushing the door open, Vivian spoke in a pinched voice, reminding the person on the bed: "Bed 63, time to clean your wound."
"Okay." Flora was busy handling work. Hearing the voice, she looked up at the visitor, feeling somewhat puzzled—why did this nurse's build seem different from the morning one?
She assumed it was just a shift change and didn't think much of it, preparing to cooperate with the wound treatment.
